Anyone pause to ask why can't the City of Encinitas provide such basic safety measures such as sidewalks? They just dropped $5 million or more on Santa Fe "improvements" that now have to be "removed and improved." It's going to cost $500k just for the redesign work, but this council wants to offload the cost of a sidewalk onto the developer, after approving the project. Such a abdication of duty. NIMBY now includes-- make someone else pay for it.... oh, but we WILL collect the property taxes from this project we approved.
I’m all for complying with state law. We have a housing problem. But I think it’s totally fair to force builders to pay for infrastructure around their project. Sidewalks, signage, traffic lights, crosswalks, turn lanes. They are making bank. They can pay up.

Anyone pause to ask why can't the City of Encinitas provide such basic safety measures such as sidewalks? They just dropped $5 million or more on Santa Fe "improvements" that now have to be "removed and improved." It's going to cost $500k just for the redesign work, but this council wants to offload the cost of a sidewalk onto the developer, after approving the project. Such a abdication of duty. NIMBY now includes-- make someone else pay for it.... oh, but we WILL collect the property taxes from this project we approved.
