Don Hansen passes away

Surfer Magazine:
Sad news washed over the worldwide surf community today, as news that legendary surfer and shaper Don Hansen has passed away. He was 88 years old.

Hansen was a lifelong surfer, and the mind behind Hansen Surfboards, an iconic surfboard brand born in the sixties and enduring throughout decades. Out of the shaping room, Hansen was also a notable wave-rider, landing on the cover of this very magazine in 1962.

As expected, The Freakshow is totally disrespectful as usual.

Elevator and the Blakespear puke clan do not understand the importance of appreciating and respecting local heroes. Thank you, Don Hansen, for being a living example of a true American๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ living a bold and vigorous life.

Thank you for your contributions to setting the culture in Encinitas. Godspeed Don ❤️

  17. I find it weird that everyone speaks in reverent tones about a businessman who cashed in on the commercialization of surf culture.

He sold a lifestyle of slack key guitar, corduroy shorts, and tanned bodies to fund a different life in Montana.

Good for him. He was a great businessman, and did very well for himself. His family should be proud.

But he’s not all that different from the condo builders. In fact, he’s probably responsible for a goodly chunk of the condo demand.

It’s difficult to separate surf culture from its exploitation for money.

New post please. City Council today.

This clown council that just gave a gigantic raise to a completely incompetent AZ Jenny that was requested by her snake crony is now addressing a gigantic revenue heavy budget which they’ve tanked again. Again Ehlers is following Blakespears former direction. ๐Ÿ‘Ž

    https://encinitas.granicus.com/GeneratedAgendaViewer.php?view_id=7&event_id=5385

Then we have Dr. Luke who’s going to try and talk tonight at City Council meeting, and explain why he like a skate park with his name on it when the city can’t even keep us safe and pave our roads.

Hopefully the local heroes can take time off of work while trying to pay their taxes and go provide some sage comments to this insane city council. Ehlers seems to only know how to follow Blakespear and her Gal Pal, AZ Jenny’s lead.

  47. So sad that Encinitas, known through San Diego as the PB Norte, continues to experience such a high rate of DUI drivers. it seems Ehlers continues to support the party zone.

It’s amazing that high school students and teachers approached city council all the time with suggestion to curtail the party atmosphere. The city sponsored drug huts and party promotions are killing moms and our children. Why aren’t there more sheriffs arresting these DUI drivers?

Why are there so many drug huts, bars and alcohol distribution centers in Encinitas?

A North County man accused of driving drunk and fleeing the scene of a fatal crash that killed a 62-year-old man in San Marcos appeared in court Tuesday, where his arraignment was postponed.

John Javier Alvarado, 39, faces charges including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and murder in connection with the Feb. 21 death of Carey Faust, a longtime landscaping business owner.

The death zones have to stop. Encinitas needs to focus on sound fiscal policy to keep us safe and fix our roads.

So sad because it’s incredibly senseless and no action is taken to correct the situation.

Just like Kranz, Blakespear, Remer, Lorena, Fletcher. San Diego is primarily Democrat and look at the problems we have, from SANDAG to business leaving in mass exodus. Keep electing the same party, raising taxes and making it difficult to prosper and people and businesses alike will leave.

They do nothing but intensify the sign polllution on Vulcan Avenue at Union and La Costa, and other locations. They have no positive effects. Stupid idea crazyeyes and developer's whore Joy.

The intelligence of the local heroes is self evident and highlights the lack of skill sets and planning of the overpaid and golden parachute incompetent City Manager and her snake side kick.

City Council approving even more deadwood full time employees at City Hall is telling, and reduces the City's abiltiy to fund programs to keep us safe and fix our roads, along with all the other great suggestions presented by the local heroes.

This City Council and the BIAspear City Manager run a clown show. They don't even complete an annual Long Term Financial Plan. Kindergarden hour.

Luce Aillers continually shows he is a BIAspear supporter and supporters her incompetent City Manager with a lighter focus on developer profits. Dr. Luke is a knuckle dragging mouth breather. More on the rest later.

Why would they fund another grade separated at Verdi street when the quiet zone and grade separated crossing throughout Encinitas and construction funding is not completed.

The whole Leucadia railroad crossing issue came from Tony's fence that continues to hurt those crossing in historical pedestrian pathways. Del Mar said NO. Tony said Yes.

Remove the unnecessary fence and you cure the crossing program.

The quiet zone is still the number one priority fund the construction of the quiet zone prior to funding any other new project.

With a competent City Council, there first action would be to hire a competent free thinking City Manager, not a left over BIAspear Incompetent insider that has shown time and time again her incompetence.

Until this core issue is addressed, Encinitas is screwed and will continue to be a shit show. ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿพ

    3. Such a weird fantasy to imagine city staff gives a shit about a few angry people posting the same dumb shit over and over on a blog maybe 30 people read max. I think they're counting their money and having fun with it, that's what I'd do.

  63. No deflection there. Those comments were spot on regarding city council meeting last night.

City Staff is clearly on the blog again trying to clog the blog,

Get to work City staff on trying to improve conditions in Encinitas and maintain safety and fix our roads dammit.

These individuals and a few others virtue signal all while gaslighting and spreading false propaganda. They have all been exposed publicly for the freak show they are.

    2. The problem with MAGA is it’s entirely based on the Dunning Kruger effect.

It’s a bunch of dumb people who think they are smart.

It’s all the people and policies that created Alabama, Mississippi, and West Virginia, thinking they should impose their policies on the states that actually invent things and drive the US economy.

It plays out on every level. Locally, we have people like Luke who is clearly intellectually disabled and never had a real private sector job coasting through life on nice hair and making dumb decisions that affect the rest of us.

Before the internet, everyone around them reinforced that they were morons, and so they largely kept to themselves. But now they found each other, and a class of selfish power brokers willing to lie to them and tell them they are actually smart.

They get told they know more about medicine through their intuition than actual smart people conducting complex and advanced research.

Whatever they don’t understand, they either ridicule and dismiss, or just simply make up lies that reflect what they want to believe.

      It’s a literal kakistocracy.

Your statements are always flawed quite simply because you confuse correlation with causation and paint millions of people with a single, negative stereotype. Social and health outcomes like poverty, obesity, or crime are driven by complex factors such as geography, economic opportunity, and education not simply how someone votes. You also rely on cherry-picked data and use insults instead of evidence, which makes it more about attacking a group than making a valid argument.

But like I said, keep making the Progressive Democrat party look bad, I won’t stop you.

    8. 3:08 “Poor schools”?

I think its worth noting that California despite being one of the wealthiest states in the country also has some of the lowest testing scores nationally K-12. Data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) consistently shows California students performing below the national average in key subjects like math and reading.

Let’s not stop there, CA water is ranked among some of the worst in nation and air quality has consistently ranked CA as the worst. I could go and on.

    12. Viewing the US presidential electoral map through the lens of public health

“ Health, disease, and mortality vary greatly at the county level, and there are strong geographical trends of disease in the United States. Healthcare is and has been a top priority for voters in the U.S., and an important political issue. Consequently, it is important to determine what relationship voting patterns have with health, disease, and mortality, as doing so may help guide appropriate policy. We performed a comprehensive analysis of the relationship between voting patterns and over 150 different public health and wellbeing variables at the county level, comparing all states, including counties in 2016 battleground states, and counties in states that flipped from majority Democrat to majority Republican from 2012 to 2016. We also investigated county-level health trends over the last 30+ years and find statistically significant relationships between a number of health measures and the voting patterns of counties in presidential elections. Collectively, these data exhibit a strong pattern: counties that voted Republican in the 2016 election had overall worse health outcomes than those that voted Democrat.”

    13. 4:16 That passage is from a published research paper, not a NIH government policy statement.

The study is: “County-level voting patterns and health outcomes in the United States” (published in PLOS ONE, 2018). So the claims reflect the authors’ analysis and conclusions, not an institutional position.

It simply means the study is indexed or archived for public access, but in no way endorsed by the NIH. It's a research paper done by an independent author.

The NIH and NLM do not adopt all studies and they didn't sponsor or accept this one.

    14. 4:51, you’ve missed the important part.

We are being run by morons.

    15. 4:16
The authored study is inconclusive and misleading because it overinterprets a statistical relationship.

First, it shows correlation, not causation. It does not prove that voting patterns affect health outcomes.

Second, it relies on county-level data, which creates an Ecological Fallacy, you cannot draw conclusions about individuals from group averages.

Third, it does not fully account for confounding factors like income, education, rural vs. urban location, and healthcare access, all of which strongly influence health and are also linked to voting patterns.

Finally, analyzing many variables increases the risk of chance findings (the Multiple Comparisons Problem).

The statement reflects a limited correlation, not a clear or causal conclusion.
