Surfer Magazine:
Sad news washed over the worldwide surf community today, as news that legendary surfer and shaper Don Hansen has passed away. He was 88 years old.

Hansen was a lifelong surfer, and the mind behind Hansen Surfboards, an iconic surfboard brand born in the sixties and enduring throughout decades. Out of the shaping room, Hansen was also a notable wave-rider, landing on the cover of this very magazine in 1962.

  3. I've lived here for 20 years and have never seen military assets moved through the city via rail. I creep out 24/7, unless of course the Dalmatians blocked my view?

    1. RIP. ๐Ÿ˜ข

As expected, The Freakshow is totally disrespectful as usual.

Elevator and the Blakespear puke clan do not understand the importance of appreciating and respecting local heroes. Thank you, Don Hansen, for being a living example of a true American๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ living a bold and vigorous life.

Thank you for your contributions to setting the culture in Encinitas. Godspeed Don ❤️

  5. W Bush created the moniker “Axis of Evil” to lump together Iraq, Iran, and North Korea.

Since then the US has attacked Iraq and Iran, but not North Korea.

What lesson do you think the world has learned?

Get nukes now. By any means necessary.

The US has caused the world to get more unstable and dangerous.

    2. Can we retire the "freakshow" name calling and get back to discussing topics on here?

    3. if it walks like a freak and talks like a freak…. You call it what it looks and talks like

Actions always speak louder than words. You might want to consider just start acting respectfully and you won’t have to carry that title your whole life.

  10. I have or had that same copy copy of Surfer Mag with Don on the cover surfing across the wall at Velzyland. I hope I kept it after selling some surfing mags of the 60's and early 70's. years ago.

  17. I find it weird that everyone speaks in reverent tones about a businessman who cashed in on the commercialization of surf culture.

He sold a lifestyle of slack key guitar, corduroy shorts, and tanned bodies to fund a different life in Montana.

Good for him. He was a great businessman, and did very well for himself. His family should be proud.

But he’s not all that different from the condo builders. In fact, he’s probably responsible for a goodly chunk of the condo demand.

It’s difficult to separate surf culture from its exploitation for money.

    3. Wrong time, wrong space to have a conversation about commercialization of surf culture. Save that for the whole Mickey Dora/Gidget universe of surf blaming. California is full of surf shops, Hansen's is our iconic shop in this area. 'Nuff said.
