We wrote to Lincoln Club board members inquiring about the bizarre hit piece at the time, and received a response that perhaps they could use more help vetting candidates in the future. It still seemed very odd to us that the Lincoln Club would have dumped thousands of dollars into a hit piece in a small-town election about which they knew nothing.
Until now.
An Encinitas Undercover source sends along this gem. Right before the Lincoln Club hit piece came out, guess who donated to the Lincoln Club's mailer campaign.
Encinitas Firefighters Association PAC 10/27/2010 $3000.00 Prop 22
Jerome Stocks 10/27/2010 $4000.00 Prop A
So the Encinitas Firefighters Association PAC suddenly found an urgent need to support California Proposition 22, which was cruising to an easy 60-40 victory, right before the election.
And the same day, Jerome Stocks, who has made a political career out of supporting the unions and increasing their pension benefits, decided he wanted to personally contribute $4000 to the Lincoln Club for Proposition A against the unions?
And completely coincidentally, the Lincoln Club sent out a hit piece attacking Stocks' rivals Barth and Kranz just four days later?
I doubt there would be anything illegal about Jerome Stocks and Mark Muir's firefighter union's PAC donating directly to the anti-Barth and Kranz hit piece, so the sleight-of-hand subterfuge is probably just to avoid the tawdry appearance of tawdry reality.

VOTE THEM ALL OUT!!!!!! Even Barth!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is disgusting. Great citizen journalism find!
ReplyDeleteBased on your journalistic logic; I guess Muir was behind the Firefighters endorsing Maggie Houlihan and Bob Nanniga. Unions make their own decisions. QUIT trying to invent stories!
ReplyDeleteWhy, yes, as a matter of fact, Muir was a big supporter of Houlihan and I have no doubt his support impacted the union endorsement.
DeleteMuir has always been overtly political and extremely powerful within the Fire Department. If you think he didn't have huge influence on union endorsements, I've got a bridge to sell you.
Gee I wonder how Stocks and Muir will vote on the purchase of a new fire truck for Encinitas at this weeks council meeting?? Hmmmm?? I wonder?? Not that is matters, the EFD lets everything burn to the ground anyway.
ReplyDeleteAnd if we seriously look at that purchase, lets ask why?? The old truck is a 1991 model, but how many miles does it have on it and how many miles were put there by responding to emergencies and not miles put there by grocery shopping or going to Home Depot to buy a broom. What's the old truck worth?? And how much is our trade in value?? What to happen to the old truck?? Serious Questions that require serious answers. Not that I expect any from this city or the FD.
Hey Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteHave you ever found a burnt body while trying to search and save lives?? have you ever had to tell the parents of a deceased child that there is nothing else you can do?? Have you ever had to tell a mother or father that their child was killed in an auto accident?? Have you ever had a co-worker commit suicide because they couldn't handle the things they experienced as an emergency responder?? Firefighters don't get paid for how many sales we make or how much product we produce. We get paid to respond and help people who are having the wost day of their lives and some how make order out of kaos. I've missed holidays and birthdays with my wife and daughters because our service is 24-7 360 days a week. Unions protect the rights of blue collar workers and if you can't see that then you must be an over paid conservative.
And you didn't answer one of my questions did you??
DeleteSo here's a question to answer....what happened to the money collected by the efd after 9-11?? Where'd it go?? Who got it?? How was it spent?? I'm waiting.
