Encinitas Advocate:
Councilmembers Lisa Shaffer and Tony Kranz several weeks ago met informally with a cross-section of residents and business owners to talk about downtown issues, particularly where problems seem the worst: Second Street, Third Street and Fourth Street. The conversation sparked the creation of the subcommittee.Who's working for whom here?
One of residents’ chief concerns: People living out of their cars and campers, with many parked in downtown Encinitas in zones with two-hour limits. To that end, the council last week expressed interest in members of the Sheriff’s Senior Volunteer Patrol writing tickets to enforce the two-hour limit.
Shaffer this week said in an email the Sheriff’s Department isn’t supportive of that approach, so the subcommittee is looking at other alternatives, although she declined to go into more detail at this time.
The volunteers are senior citizens not trained in confrontation management. Why put them at risk? Our city has plenty of money. At least they claim too. Hire someone to take care of the problem. If the city directs the sheriff to handle the problem as a priority the sheriff will. To do that is to take them away from something else.
ReplyDeleteThey could detach their titanium hip and use it as a baton!
DeleteThe Sheriff's Department has a person whose sole job is parking enforcement - the vehicle he rides around in has specific identification on its doors identifying it as parking enforcement. I agree with 6:40 AM - this job can be contentious, so no need to expose the senior volunteers to such issues.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with the above two posters. If I were a volunteer, I would not want to put myself in a potential confrontation with desperate people. There has to be a better way to work with the homeless than giving them a ticket they can't pay anyway. Who thinks up these ridiculous ideas?
ReplyDelete9:19- Who do you think? Kranz and Shaffer. Hard to believe Shaffer has a doctorate, and if Kranz is not careful he may end up being one of those homeless folks. Or, I guess he could live over at Leichtag's operation.
ReplyDeleteKranz can be the kosher klown at their pavilion that they are going to build!
DeleteDon't be too impressed by a doctorate - it is no indicator of common sense.
Delete9:47- You are right. Common sense alludes many people with Ph.D's , especially academicians, turned politicians.
DeleteIt takes a great deal of work to do a thesis, get it approved, and get a Ph.D. I applaud anyone who has the guts, skill, knowledge and determination to get one.
Delete2:33- Since I have a Ph.D. I agree. However, it still does not always translate into common sense.
Delete11:25, let's hope your Ph.D. isn't in English. You mean "eludes," not "alludes."
Delete3:31- 11:25 here. You are right, and I apologize for my spelling error. I know the difference, but that's what I get for typing faster than my brain processes. Thank you for the correction.
Delete2:33 PM Obviously you've never been near a University. A lot of it is politics and doing the time. I witnessed the process for 30 years.
ReplyDelete4:31 You don't have any idea how close to the university system I have been. It exceeds your 30 years by far. Did you make it to President? I know your answer will be yes. Holding back my laugh.
DeleteOhhhhhh president.......ohhhhhhhh
DeleteThe "higher" you were, the more obscure your opinion.
I smell hierarchy stink from 10:04 PM's arrogant remark...
4:10 AM Obviously you don't sleep well. Get a life.
Delete12:51 PM Brilliant comment - utilize your degree to figure that one out?
Delete7:42 My granddaughter came up with that. It was too easy.
DeleteJust throw more money at the problem and make it go away. $28,000,000 a year here in Encinitas evidently is not enough.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for this idea. First off, elders have been around, they know what trouble looks like. They also understand how having too many brown and poor people around diminishes property values.
ReplyDeleteDonald? Is that you?

George Orwell- is that you? Where CNN, ABC, PBS, Macy's, ESPN and 8:29 ignore the facts as they are to promote the lies of a political narrative to benefit their ideologies, not the truth?
It is you!!! Well, welcome to EU, Donald. We all look forward to your insightful comments and erudite political analysis of the issues of the day!
DeleteAccording to the US Sentencing Commission data Illegal Immigrants made up 36.7 of federal sentences in 2014. The sentencing for crimes of the illegal immigrants at the federal level in 2014 totalled 27, 505. Broken down as follows:
ReplyDelete16.8% illegal immigrants were sentenced for drug trafficking
20% of illegal immigrant fedeal were sentenced for hostage taking and kidnapping ( human trafficking/rape?)
74% of illegal immigrants sentenced were for drug possession
12% of illegal immigrants sentenced were for money laundering
12% fof illegal immigrants sentenced were for murder convictions
The gang rapes and murders posted by 8:43 are factually correct. Police reports of these rapes and murders of legal citizens by illegal immigrants are available for review online.
You don't fool me, Donald - or should I say 10:49 (wink, wink...)
DeleteIt is unfortunate anyone would consider gang rapes something to wink at.
DeleteI was frightened and outraged for a minute.
DeleteBut then I realized that my 70-year-old female housekeeper with a son and grandson in the U.S. Marines is unlikely to be a rapist or murderer.
5:41, That's probably because your housekeeper is not an ILLEGAL immigrant. Every time Trump is quoted, they miraculously forget to add in that essential word. Watch for it. It makes a big difference. Either way, your housekeeper sounds like a good person.
DeleteAS a Korean war veteran and a member of the citizens auxiliary police. I have trained under Mr. Jay Santos and I can tell you there isn't any smart mouth parking violator I fear. Between the "3 step takedown" and the "piece of their shirt" they'll gladly accept that citation. Bring it on punk!!!
ReplyDeleteI love Jay Santos!
DeleteJay Santos once took me down for taking too long at an ATM.
Delete@6:01 here. My only post was the funny one. Others here are posting genuine racism.
ReplyDelete@1:40. Korea, eh? Three point takedown, sounds very scary. I think these three points are more apt (from "The Bucketlist"): never pass up a bathroom, never waste a hard-on, and never trust a fart.
Have the folks who make Depends improved their absorbancy at all? Those cloth interceptor seats soak up EVERYTHING.
It's the " 3 step takedown" (copyrighted and trade marked). Pay attention punk!!
DeleteOh, three STEP takedown. That's a much different story. I stand corrected. You are no doubt just the right person to have law enforcement power, yessiree.
