Vandal uses power tools to destroy Paul Ecke Central playground equipment

From Facebook:
One of the play structures at Paul Ecke Central was vandalized sometime over the weekend from August 15 - 16. Someone apparently used a power tool to cut through the plastic slide and plastic brackets on the play structure. Also damaged was a metal platform. Anyone who has information about the individual(s) who vandalized the play structure can contact the Encinitas Sheriff's Department at (760)966-3500 or the Encinitas Union School District Office at (760)944-4300.

An EU commenter tells us this is the second time this has happened to the same playground.

The list of suspects can't be that long. Only a few houses back up to that playground, and I'm sure there's one really obvious guy who's anti-social and not too bright. Probably even made noise complaints about the school in the past. The Sheriffs ought to be interviewing all the neighbors.

  1. An ajoining neighbor? They'd have to be idiots to do this so close to home.
Noise from a school? That's to be expected. How does destroying playground equipment abate noise?

  2. I don't condone this action in the least. However, has anyone considered that this is a reaction to too many people and too much "vibrancy?"

  4. My children attend PEC and I'm very concerned that if the perpetrator isn't caught, it could escalate to attempts to harm the children directly.

    1. Put the new city code officer on duty there - he has nothing else to do.

  5. Let's not start speculating on suspects being neighbors. Let the cops do their job. Pretty soon we'll be out with the pitchforks on mainstreet...

    1. Flaming torches. You for got the flaming torches. ( It's not the name of a gay band either.)

  6. Two of the four owners abutting PEC are too damned OLD to wield power tools on the equipment. Trust me, I know this. Two of the four owners have lived above PEC for OVER 40 years. Two of the four owners attended PEC over a span of 60+ years. One of the four owners has a grandchild who attends PEC. One of the four owners has a child who attends PEC.
I think I’ve pretty much covered the total lack of motive for any of the abutting property owners to destroy PEC equipment.
