A polarizing debate over protests involving the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance that has gripped the nation this year recently made its way to Encinitas in one of the most unlikely places — the Traffic and Public Safety Commission.
Commissioners clashed in recent meetings when two members of the seven commissioner board refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, and one of the members asked the board to eliminate the pledge as a standing item on the board’s agenda.
The act of protest has divided the commission, as some members said they support the stance taken by Commissioners Christina Simokat and Darius Degher, while others said they were offended by it.

Traffic commissioners take a knee
Coast News:
Even the concept of a "Pledge of Allegiance" is out dated and frankly stupid.Be honest and pledge your allegiance to MONEY. I won't go to war or make pledges for the billionaire donor class and the whores who accept their money.
ReplyDeleteWe Must Hang Together Or Surely We Shall Hang Separately.
ReplyDeleteIf saying the Pledge of Allegiance is so disagreeable with them, they should resign from the commission.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
DeleteOr maybe they should get off their asses and contribute their time to remedy the imperfections in the system they are protesting—oh, wait.
DeleteThat’s exactly what they are doing.
Ironic that EU, the digital Taj Mahal of bitching about the state of our system is now contorting logic to bitch about others who are protesting against a flawed system.
Has nothing to do with the traffic commission's work. Dump the pledge at the beginning of the meeting.
DeleteIt has everything to do with serving for our local government in good faith with the best interest of the community in mind. It takes less than a minutes to recite. Don't like it? Then don't volunteer to serve, what is the point? Go serve another govt. where you don't have to say it because this is AMERICA.
DeleteAmerica can, should, and will change, as it always has, and usually for the the better. I don't see how saying the pledge some how makes sure someone has the best interests of the community in mind.
DeletePeople like 10:43 are a dying breed in CA, though they still dominate trailer parks in red states.
Halliburton wouldn’t be where it is today without the likes of 10:43 type people. Followers are great like that. Give them some pretty words to recite and they will literally die for you.
DeleteSo I guess you're referring to the many NFL coaches as well who told the kneelers on their teams to cut the BS? They know what they signed up for, they can do activism on their own time, not ours. It's just a distraction anyway and their way of showing allegiance to something much darker that has nothing to do with the flag.
DeleteWhen you consider that we now have a President who quite possibly owes his allegiance to a foreign dictator for some favorable loans and piss hookers, I think we need more pledging rather than less. These traffic commission knuckleheads should be required to say it twice. Once out of a duty to this country, and the second time for being assholes.
ReplyDeleteactions speak louder than words whiner.....
DeleteWhy don't you step up and become a commissioner.
Oh, I know.... your a whiner not a doer.... typical.
He who is a whiner about whiners - go take a knee. Better yet, take both. Better to lip snuggle up against the fannies of the anointed.
Delete10:05. please take a moment to become informed. The FBI and DOJ under Obama used it's office to attack liberty and freedom by targeting political opponents and manufacturing fake news. FBI staff are now resigning, being re-assigned and seeking cover. Collusion to rig the election was betwern Clinton, Obama, the DNC, the DOJ and the FBI.
DeleteThank you, Mr. Putin.
Delete1:48,
DeleteKen Starr was in the GHWB administration for 4 years prior to being appointed to investigate Clinton. The notion that an investigation cannot be legitimate unless it’s staffed with people loyal to the target is absurd in the extreme.
You can tantrum like the triggered snowflake you are, but Mr. Mueller and his team of pros will continue to do their work, and judges and juries will accept or reject it.
I have faith in our Constitution, and the average citizens placed on juries. Sounds like you don’t. Why are you so anti-American?
1:48 at work.
Deletehttps://pbs.twimg.com/media/CjCHnW-UYAAK6SE.jpg
1:48 is definitely that parent who screams crap at the refs if his kid’s team is losing a game.
DeleteIt’s a pattern, and he’s teaching it to the next generation.
Sad.
To those uninformed, the Inspector General (IG) launched an investigation in January 2017 of the FBI and DOJ. In the past 4 weeks multiple FBI Executives have been shown to have colluded with the Clinton Campaign and Obama DOJ to mislead citizens, illegally spy on political opponents and manufacture electioneering propaganda. The "russian steele" dossier was a manufactured fake dossier paid for and produced by the Clinton machine aided by select FBI ( Comey, Ohr, Page, Strozyk, McCabe) and DOJ ( Lorreta Lynch meeting Bill Clinton on the tarmac) to defraud citizens of the truth and collude to intefere in an election. If a reader is unaware there is an Inspector General Investigation underway, ask yourself, why do you not know? If you the reader are unaware of the hearings regarding the FBI, ask why?
DeleteThanks, comrade.
DeleteAll wrong.
DeleteYou should read real news.
Sorry, but they have blocked Stormfront on the Library computers.
Deleteconfirmed today. Testimony this fall by Andrew mcCabe, Peter Strozk, Bill Ohr revealed the FBI colluded with the Democratic party and Clinton campaign to manufacture a fake report regarding Trump to intefere in the election. Today we learn this fake report was used to make false claims do the Clinton and Obama machines could get FISA warrants to spy on political opponents.
DeleteThis is satire, right?
Delete3:59 can’t tell the truth, so we know who he supports.
Delete”Representatives for the Washington Free Beacon, a conservative online news site, informed congressional investigators Friday the outlet had originally funded the research firm that created the salacious dossier containing allegations of ties between Donald Trump's campaign and Russian operatives, the publication said in a statement.”
https://www.politico.com/story/2017/10/27/trump-russia-washington-free-beacon-fusion-gps-244265
DeleteThank you for acknowledging that there is no Russia Trump connection. The Free Beacon is a globalist propaganda publication owned by billionaire Paul Singer. Like Murdoch who owns Fox and Bezos who owns WAPO,Singer uses his paper for himself. Singer backed open borders supporting Rubio. Singer paid Fusion GPS to fabricate innuendo. The DNC, along with the Clinton machine and FBI and DOJ, used the Singer bought propaganda to hire Steele, Steele in turn manufactured more lies and misleading info in the Steele Dossier. The Steele dossier, was then used by rogue leaders of the FBI, DOJ and Obama whitehouse to acquire FISA warrants to spy on the Trump campaign.
DeleteIn the past 2 months members of the FBI have been exposed as corrupt. Andrew McCabe, who's wife recieved $500k from Clinton affiliates is resigning, Peter Strzok has been demoted, Lisa Page, aid to MCabe and Mistress to Strzok, is on record of collusion to intefere in the election and has been reassigned, Strzok admitted changing language with Director Comey to protect HRC from prosecution. Strzok and Comey have admitted not requiring HRC to testify under oath, a move that protects Clinton from perjury charges.
Nellie Ohr, wife of DOJ deputy Bruce Ohr worked for Fusion GPS after Singer hired them.
Obama aid Evelyn Farkas is on record of the DOJ and FBI spying in political opponents of Obama, and trying to cover it up, see her interview of 3/27/17.
When members of the FBI, whitehouse and DOJ conspire to intefere in elections they should be held accountable.
Yep. Satire.
DeleteDocuments released by the DOJ include the document written by James Comey describing HRC ise of an illegal server as gross negligence. FBI Director Strozk admitted having Comey change the teport to protect HRC and her campaign. Sttozk has a DOJ FBI member Lisa Page as,a mistress. Texts between Page and Strozk refer to a secret plan to interfere in the ekection. These are documents all can go read, not unnamed "sources"
DeleteWait, isn't it Free Beacon's?
DeleteI think 10:30 is a Russian .
DeleteThe corruption within the FBI and DOJ working with the DNC and HRC campaign to interfere in and alter the election is being exposed. Friday Fusion GPS, who receoved money from the HRC campaign effort was ordered by the courts to turn over financial documents. Today Bruce Ohr of the FBI/DOJ was demoted a second time. He was firts demoted last month after revealing his wife worked for Fusion GPS. Ohr, Strozh, McCabe, Page, Yates, Coney- their illegal activities are coming to light.
DeleteWhy is Darius Degher wearing a hat indoors on the podium. Manners, manners. From an article - "So that goes a little way towards answering why hats are so inherently rude. And unfortunately for high school boys everywhere, we're not here today to decide if the rule should be abolished. Because the truth is, the rules are pretty clear: Gentlemen are not to wear hats indoors. Pretty much ... ever."
ReplyDeleteQ- Why does he wear his hat indoors ??
DeleteA- Because he is an idiot.
baseless insults from probably some ignorant motorhead. Ha!!
DeleteI was in elementary school when the religious right added "under God" to the pledge. And sometimes I hear at the end the two words "play ball".
ReplyDeleteI like this comment.
Delete3:00pm this isn't facebook!
DeleteNot a big deal, BUT
ReplyDeleteWhy are so many Peds and bikes being killed in Encinitas?
Can the City please focus on road safety improvements and less on building pensions for workers, and trophy projects for Council-members and lifeguards?
Who cares what they do before the meeting. What they are NOT doing during the meeting to better serve the community with safety controls is more concerning. That's what we should be talking about through this "spotlight."
ReplyDeleteDarius Degher is an idiot! His recthoric is always negative and hurtful.
ReplyDeleteAgree with 9:34. Degner's recthoric hurts!
ReplyDeleteAre you referring to what he said in the article, or other rhetoric? I found what he said in the article pretty harmless, and certainly not hurtful. "Degher said in an interview that his reasons for declining to participate in the pledge were twofold. First, he said, the origins of the pledge are rooted in nationalism, which he said paralleled what he called a “feverish nationalistic climate” in the country, which was his second issue with the pledge."
DeleteLet me ask a serious question.
ReplyDeleteIf everyone was compelled through intimidation, threats, or force to stand for the National Anthem and/or recite the Pledge of Allegiance, would that act of compulsory symbolism make our country better or more unified in any way?
In my mind, it would make us far weaker, because it would become impossible to know how many people were showing respect of their own free will. Either we embrace freedom; or we don't. Freedom to exhibit compulsory symbolic nationalist fervor isn't freedom (see: North Korea).
I like this comment.
DeleteNo one goes to the traffic commission because they don't do anything.
ReplyDeleteWe wouldn't be talking about this if for not the article.
Why would coast news cover this? Obviously planted by one of the participants of the knee dive, but who?
Which then begs the question of the motive.
If people want to kneel, they can. But not savvy to call attention to it in this way. This is all self promotion. I'm guessing that someone is thinking about running for an elected office and needs to get into the news. Well, let's defeat that idea now. Show leadership by making better policy, not by parroting other ideas that are 17 weeks old.
And do me a favor. Prove me wrong and don't run for office. Thanks.
I like this comment too
DeleteWill Darius Degher remove his hat when he enters the building? Or will he continue to wear the hat inside?
ReplyDeleteManners, manners.
The real question is does he wear his hat to bed??
DeleteSuch an idiot class in So Ca.
DeleteSounds like some people seriously need to get a life. What nonsense!
ReplyDeleteManners, manners, what manners?
ReplyDeleteA common line from the movies - Little boy, didn't your parents teach you any manners?
ReplyDeleteHow many robots have been trying to post here?
ReplyDeleteRobots with manners or without manners?
ReplyDeletePerhaps Darious haha, is follicly challenged and too vain to show his noggin.
ReplyDeleteRemoving a hat indoors is a common courtesy. Some ignore this at council meetings and some do.
Lets hope vanity is not the reason. He does appear to full of himself at times.
I wouldn't put it past his ego to think he could run successfully for council. Depending on who he might run against with the new districting in play, anything is possible.
Dariass uses his hat to cover up the meat on top of his head - what a meathead!
ReplyDeleteWhatever..... your a total dumbass. Darius actually has a brain. Sorry you don't..... carry on dumbass.
DeleteSticks and stones may break my bones, but you my darling have your head buried so far up Dariass, that you can think for yourself!
DeleteOK Dumbass. carry on as dumbasses do.
DeleteI am curious why Coast News was even at the meeting. I have only seen them at the Planning Commission and City Council. Anyone want to guess?
ReplyDeleteFrom the quotes in the article, it seems that the reporting is after the fact. The reporter was not there, but he was told about what happened.
DeleteActually, he most likely listened to the audio-recording.

ReplyDeleteRight on, bro!
Darius Degher is a stable genius!
