There’s an outdated view circulating around that California urban areas are lower density than those of the Northeast Corridor, according to New Geography, but a comparison of Census data shows coastal California suburbs more than double Northeast suburbs in density.HT: Bubbleinfo
New Geography compared “Coastal California” hubs Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and San Jose to the Northeast Corridor which runs from Washington, D.C., through Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Hartford, Providence, and Boston. The analysis shows urban core population density in coastal California is at least 60% higher than urban Northeast populations while suburban density more than doubles that of Northeast areas. New Geography’s Wendell Cox writes:
Given the already elevated level of density, proposals to cram more people into already settled areas of California could worsen the quality of life. California’s high urban densities are accompanied by the worst traffic congestion in the nation and some of the worst in the world. With plans in place and more proposals to increase densities, this can only get worse.

Dense enough already?
Builder Online:
The city needs to develop all of Encinitas to look like Huntington Beach, so I can afford to pay for the city firefighter and city managers pensions. It’s that simple.
ReplyDeleteIn a nutshell, 10:43.
DeleteExplain to me again, with any stretch of the imagination how a firefighter deserves, an obscene pension, enough to actually bankrupt Encinitas in time?
ReplyDeleteWrong thread, dude. Try to control yourself.
DeleteNope dude it’s the right thread. The fire fighters union is sapping Encinitas tax payers.
DeleteCity’s strategy for trying to keep from being bankrupt from the huge pensions of all the firemen, is to over develop Encinitas and sell it out to the developers .
The Financial pressure from the firefighters and other union pensions, is the direct result of the city trying to densely develop like Huntington Beach . You can thank your fireman for all of the future coming crowded beaches and crowded roads.
sorry - I meant to say....." The financial pressure from the firefighters and other union pensions directly results in the City trying to densify the City like Huntington Beach."
Delete.... ummmm, they have shiny trucks, and they give really nice tors of the fire station?!
ReplyDeleteMuir loves the firefighters' union. Over $100K as a starting salary? Simply outrageous.
ReplyDeleteThis debate is irrelevant in Encinitas.
ReplyDeleteIt needs to go to Sacto.
Bs- The city sets its pension plan
DeleteWhat the state could do is pass the tax on all Pers pensions over $100,000 in tax and 50% and put that money back into the program as an asset to cover the debt .
Delete7:38 - so how does that work if the retiree moves to Florida?
DeleteThis afternoon, Bob Echter is hosting a campaign event for Tasha at the greenhouse that could be redeveloped putting millions into Echter’s pocket depending on how Tasha votes.
ReplyDeleteIs that okay with you?
Pay for play - business as usual.
DeleteHe gave her 4 thou.
DeleteThe Peter Principle out of control.
DeleteAnd Tasha refuses to explain why the council decided not to put Cannabis growing, delivery, or selling in the city on the ballot. She says it's too complicated to explain, but it isn't. The city fears the voters will approve and has already decided to approve the agrihood on agriculturally zoned land with Cannibas production prohibited. Vote NO on the Housing Element Update.
DeleteAgree, 4:06. Tasha's insistence on asking folks to call her and discuss privately is secretive and sneaky. The issue is not "complicated," but it does highlight her conflict of interest in voting to support Echter. And it also highlights her MO of trying to manage controversial issues away from any public scrutiny.
DeleteShe's pulled that number on other occasions and it's juvenile at best, conniving at worst. Not what I look for in my representative, that's for sure.
All of these candidates are up for sale - it is the current American political model and the exact reason why it is failing.
ReplyDeleteIt's the history of the damn world. I thought we could do better.
ReplyDeleteThey promised us they would - all five. Major disappointments, most of all Phony Tony.
DeleteNext election- I’m voting no growth, existing residents quality of life.
ReplyDeleteI hope there is a decent candidate.
Since Muir was the only council member to vote no on our town expressing its view against the proliferation the guns and support the students who are fed up with being shot and killed in schools across the nation, has he ever received money from the NRA?
ReplyDeleteLast Saturday was a day to never forget in our town and across the country. Anyone that cannot feel the need for change, does not belong on anyones council, or in public life.
After all the heartfelt chanting and sign waving demanding that something has to change, I was thankful that I live in such a wonderful community.
I saw one, and only one negative expression on a mailbox on Saxony that called for controlling kids, not guns. I feel for the neighbors that have such an insensitive person living next to them. I doubt he/she,they is far from alone , but on a day such as last Saturday how someone could be so...................fill in the blanks for yourself.
The NRA is a domestic terrorist organization and deserves to be treated as such, even it has to be ripped from their cold dead hands. Their hearts are just as cold and dead.
Time should be up for them. The second amendment is irrelevant when it comes to assault weapons being sold to the public. You want to hunt, fine. You want to target shoot, fine. You want to defend your home, fine.
That does not go for these semi automatic weapons of war used on our streets and in our schools for massacres.
Enough Is Enough.
People should be marching against Trump and his march towards nuclear war. You think gun carnage is bad? Wait until the mega-ton nukes hit - this time the USA isn't going to be spared the dire experience of devastation.
DeleteYou can outlaw guns, but that’s not going to change the behavior. Drugs are outlawed today and there’s huge heroin deaths problem .
ReplyDeleteThe problem is much deeper. Just saying .
Yes, there is a deeper problem in the psyche of this nation.
DeleteWe should mandate bettering parenting. A lot of parents here are hands off and don't care about anything that there kids are doing.
DeleteAh, the half wit strikes again!
Delete4:06- Where did you hear all of this about Tasha. I didn't see anything related to her and Echter.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.tasha4assembly.com/meet-tasha/2018/march26
DeletePlus his $4K donation to her campaign.
Delete4:06 didn't mention Echter...?
DeleteThe fix is in, this is corrupt politics as usual. Turncoat Tasha got a 4 year council term, decides to give up half of it, votes for the Echterhood than accepts this from him.
DeleteTasha sneaking around same as she did on the districting map. This comes on the heels of that embarrassment when she wouldn't reveal herself as the author of the map she was pushing.
DeleteShe is in the mold of Shaffer, who thought she knew best for residents and will do and say anything to push her private, knows-best agenda.
Under campaign finance laws, Tasha will have to disclose in-kind contributions / donations exceeding $250 and then recuse herself from voting on matters that relate to it for one-year.
Delete4:06 mentioned the agrihood. That's the Echter proposal. It's helpful to attend council meetings or watch them live or on replay from the city website. It all involves the Cannabis ordinance, the Housing Element Update, Leucadia streetscape, and Tasha's running for State Assembly in November. Also throw in Tasha's deception on authoring the voting district maps. Sneaking around and avoiding public discussion is her method to deceive the voters.
Delete"City Councilmember. Businesswoman. Community Leader. Mother."
DeleteShe's missing "sneak" on her website.
"City Councilmember. Businesswoman. Community Leader. Mother. Sneak." At least tell the truth, Tasha. If you know how.
Regarding this thread.... what makes us "dense" comes primarily from LA, SF, and SD. Suburbs in north county are extremely low density.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the point of this post?
My point is I don’t want Encinitas more dense. I like Del Mar, Solana Beach and Encinitas their current density. More is worse.
ReplyDeleteLet the high density stay in San Diego, Oceanside and HB/ LA area.
LA Council have a spine in rejecting higher-density housing: http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-housing-bill-council-20180326-story.html.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with our Council? They're working hard instead for the BIA, that's what.
BIA donates to our counsil members campaigns—they then give them your tax dollars in the form of approving settlements in lawsuits or lying to the residents to get their upzoning. Its been the developers playbook for years in San Diego. To bad BIA leadership, and many memebers, love hookers and settling sexual harassment suits so much. Would hate to see them get #metoo-ed the same day they file another suit against the city.
DeleteDon't forget that in 2020 Encinitas will have to plan for next housing element cycle plus a 1,300 unit carryover. How many units will that be? 2,000 or 3,000? Good grief.
DeleteDepends on whether the council rolls over or joins the growing number of cities saying "no." Cue Marco screaming "racism." What a developer's tool.
DeleteI drove through Bressi Ranch in Carlsbad. What a mess. You have to drive through a high intense business park to get to all of those homes now. It use to be pretty cool. Now I bet those home prices have dropped. So sad.
ReplyDeleteWorld population biggest problem.
ReplyDeleteStart by sterilizing fellons.
Start with people who can't spell.

ReplyDeleteWrong again man/child. Expecting anything more from you, is like pissing into the wind, nothing but blow back. The infantile accusations will continue. It is your s o p.
