12-year-old girl killed in crosswalk near Trader Joe's

NBC 7:
A 12-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car in Encinitas on Friday, according to a press release from the San Diego Sheriff's Department. The incident happened near Encinitas Boulevard and Village Square Drive just before 7 p.m.

Officials said a Nissan Xterra, driven by a 44-year-old man, was heading westbound when it collided with a Ford Fusion driven by another 44-year-old man. The Xterra then struck the 12-year-old girl who was walking the crosswalk. She succumbed to her injuries, according to them.

Both drivers stayed at the scene. The use of alcohol or drugs is not believed to be a factor in the ongoing investigation, according to the press release.

  5. RIP little girl. People run traffic signals all the time. I feel absolutely horrible for this family. God bless you all. 😢

Hence, another reason why roundabouts are so so so much better and safer and more efficient than any other intersection control.

Traffic signals are much more deadly and have many more fatalities. . And City councils that put incompetent city managers do not prevent kills. They are spending money in the wrong places when more money could go towards improvements like roundabouts and police enforcement on the roads not on the beach.

  7. It sounds like one of the cars blew through a red light and caused the accident. That’s the only way you get a 90° collision at speed. Assuming the girl was crossing with the walk sign, it was the car going west on Enc Blvd. Makes me wonder if the driver was looking at a phone.

Someday cars will be designed with some sort of RFID tag that signals the phone to suspend most functionality and alerts if the engine is running.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Engine running?

Get with the times. There’s already technology that detects if your eyes are not on the road and on your phone.

As soon as autonomous driving is common place, the roads will be much safer. Until then, traffic signals and driver error are the problem.

Did the sheriffs test the person who caused the accident for DUI including THC?

Now with all the pot shops throughout town, there’s a bunch of hazy fucked up drivers that are high risk and are mowing down people.

Look at what happened to poor Emily on Coast Highway. She was mowed down and the driver took off with a hit-and-run. Remember the young student that was mowed down on New Year’s Eve by a drunk driver hit and run At Moonlight Beach?! 😢RIP

Very strong indicator that DUI was at play and they probably came from the pot shop down the road - Stizzy.

The drug huts Approved by the former city council was a horrible decision for the community. BIAspear and Kranzinitas results in more deaths in our community and more children dying. Bad, bad, bad idea.

Shut down the ganja huts, and place a condition on all alcohol serving establishments to provide a fee for increased sheriff enforcement of DUI.

We have to protect our community from Kranzinitas bad decisions and especially protect our children.

Every major publication and news channel (NBC, CBS, SD Tribune, Fox, etc) is showing video similar to Save Encinitas Now video of the aftermath of the accident - but of course none of the progressive liberals are upset about THOSE sites. They are only angry at SEN because the account destroyed their leftist candidates and crushed the chances for their newly arrived DEI hopeful. Now SEN is dismantling their various projects one at a time and winning over more and more Encinitas residents along the way. SEN is also holding the new Mayor accountable for inaction. SEN wants public safety in Encinitas and law and order, so naturally the progressive liberals HATE the account.

  24. RIP young lady and my sorrows and many prayers to the family to get through this tragedy.

With that said, there is other Real Time News to cover in Encinitas today, so with no disrespect intended we turn to other real time news:

Maybe someday, Americans and Encinitians will catch up the intelligence of Australians and Europeans and start implementing roundabouts that not only result in 90% reduction in fatalities but are also better for efficiency thus saving time and money.

Many Encinitians are well traveled and get it- Roundabouts are bueno.

Then there are the local loud mouth ignorant, that can not figure out how to yield. They rather stare at a red light for 5 minutes verses try and figure out what to do with a yield sign. My take is the DVM should spend more time testing drivers ability to yield during drivers exams, because there are alot of loud mouth ignorant dummies in Enicnitas that say stupid shit like roundabouts cause people to do shots, drive DUI, crash full speed into the roundabouts, and the roundabouts cause the crashes.

Face it, many Encinitians are dumb, and we hear them all the time. Remember- " COVID is spread by ocean mist. Stay out the sunny surf and beach areas because that is where viruses spead." Remember BIakespear and Kranz closed the beaches for a really long time have a huge damaging effect on Public Health.

Its the same idiocracy when people claim roundabouts do not save lives and time.

The sole purpose of the interim contract City Manager is to eliminate the un-necessary Full Time Employee (FTEs) positions to re-establish a realistic operation budget that allows 40% of the general fund to go to maintenance projects. That interim City Manager will not be popular with staff but they are a necessary step to allow the new City Manager to come in fresh and start a positive rebuild.

  33. Your analysis does indicate a need to bring in a strategic thinking City Manager to Encinitas. The Senator and her housing advocates worked very hard to gentify Encinitas. Ms. Blasksphere has most likely lined her pockets during this growth period. We know that Grover, aka Nolan has won. We know that council women, Joy scored. She is working for Baldwin We even saw, failed councilwomen Blackwell invest with a developer. Now, we are rich town. Let's get a City Manager who is strategic so we can keep up with other gentrified cities .

    5. The gentrification did start in the 1900s. Encinitas Ranch. We also built a couple of starter home projects in Encinitas
She did not lobby for starter homes and instead she supported the builder of 4K apartments.
She exploited POC, unhoused and the common worker. Do you have numbers that reflect your position?

X equity flakes, when are you going to ask Nolan investment to be equitable and share? Will you support me creating a company that brings the unhoused to Nolans events. Why should they be excluded?

  45. 10:48 no he did not end the event. He switched the format to avoid having Kranz dog constituents with his camera that he “was just setting up, not filming” according to Marco Gonzalez. 49. And again comes Gonzalez with the "Kranz was just adjusting his camera" BS. Hey Marco how about Kranz adjusts his attitude? He is more unelectable now than ever.

You may think you're pasting together a montage of moments to stage your great comeback but one image of Kranz intimidating a resident with his camera wipes out any body of work you think you're producing.

Your pipeline to rubber stamped projects is stopped up and you can't stand it. Kranz has only one identity as an elected official, sad, now he's back down at the bottom and he can't stand it.
