That's so dumb. A "dangerous road" did not kill Emery. A dangerous driver did. Someone made an illegal or unsafe turn, or someone ran a red light. One car hit another and that vehicle careened through the intersection, tragically striking beautiful, young Emery in the crosswalk. It's sad. It's tragic beyond words. But none of that makes it criminal. The impact that killed Emery was secondary to the vehicular collision, so it's likely that no one will be held responsible, or culpable for her accidental death. That's not to say that there won't be a civil suit, there certainly will be.

The intersection where Brodie was killed was on a "BACKLOG" to be replaced with a safe crosswalk. Had that safe infrastructure been completed as scheduled, Brodie would still be alive today. ReplyDeleteThat's so dumb. A "dangerous road" did not kill Emery. A dangerous driver did. Someone made an illegal or unsafe turn, or someone ran a red light. One car hit another and that vehicle careened through the intersection, tragically striking beautiful, young Emery in the crosswalk. It's sad. It's tragic beyond words. But none of that makes it criminal. The impact that killed Emery was secondary to the vehicular collision, so it's likely that no one will be held responsible, or culpable for her accidental death. That's not to say that there won't be a civil suit, there certainly will be.

Developer employed AZ Joy needs to resign and quit making horrible decisions for Encinitas.
The unwarranted stop sign on La Costa Avenue and Sheraton did not help anything. It was a terrible decision that will result in serous injuries. It could likely get a kid killed in the future due to this City’s propensity to install unwarranted stop signs.

1. Unbridled high density developer profit driven growth from the employers of Councilwomen AZ Joy.
2. Bars and Ganja drug Huts pumping out massive amounts of mind altering drugs into community’s tourists and drivers every day.
3. Unwarranted stop signs that harm public safety while giving the false sense of security that people will actually stop even though we all see with our own eyes most people do not stop because they know they are unenforceable and will be thrown out. In court.
4. No traffic enforcement because the current Blakespear City Hall leaders are busy hiring more paper pushing talking heads to consume all the budget (high salary and pensions in perpetuity) while traffic cops and maintenance and safety improvements of our roads remain non-existent.
Listen to the illogical comments from Mayor Ehlers to support this unsafe action. He state he knows many people regularly run stop signs and the numbers drunks an other higher than kite distracted drivers on the road will not even slow down and have limited judgment on seeing pedestrians or children crossing the road.
These actions from City Council will make our roads more unsafe, more children will die, more pain and suffering in our community, more sad testimony by families and friends of the deceased and more law suits taking money that could have been used to improve road safety and giving to the plaintiffs for good reason. The City tis liable for its bad decisions.
Mr. Oharra an ill thought out, non warranted stop sign is not a cheaper alternative that a roundabout when you consider the results. The City is responsible for its actions. Do I need to remind you of:

What is really alarming is that the city is still allowing the traffic engineers to continue with their deadly road designs. The intersection where Brodie was killed was on a "BACKLOG" to be replaced with a safe crosswalk. Had that safe infrastructure been completed as scheduled, Brodie would still be alive today. But, No, to this day, the engineering dept. has not done any of the planned infrastructure replacement to make that intersection safer. Additionally, the engineering dept. put a lower speed limit sign on ECR heading North, AFTER The Santa Fe Dr. traffic light, instead of putting it BEFORE the traffic light. The cars are still speeding up to the traffic light on Santa Fe Dr. at 55mph, just like the speeding van that killed Brodie. Are they insane - what is so difficult to understand that the lower speed limit and WARNING signs along ECR, need to be installed BEFORE the SFD stop light starting at Manchester. Where is Snoozin Sherawd, she claims that she rides her bike with her son through that area every day? Where is the jazzercise $305,000/yr City Manager?
