This was the CycleTrap crash in the last Bike the Coast event. Anyone happen to know how the woman is doing? She seemed concussed at the time. She was behind the barriers and went down hard when her wheel hit the wheelstops. It seemed she had to swerve around something or was startled. No vehicles were involved (except for the ambulance which took her to hospital).
There have been numerous crashes serious enough for an ambulance ride at Blakespear's bike obstacles, and one fatality.
Who's going to lead the actual effort to have these removed? Enough talk on online chatter, let's get this done.....

DeleteUnlike Blakespear’s manufactured homeless emergency, this is an actual immediate threat to public safety and it needs to be addressed ASAP with the removal of all curbs and bollards along 101 and elsewhere.

Common sense would dictate that whoever took part in the design and final signing off on this project be fired due to incompetence. There has to be consequences for this level of negligence, waste of funds and breach of the public trust. If any city employee has the audacity to dispute their dismissal id rather have the city spend money on that litigation and not because another member of the public was injured or worse while cycling.
Every day this abortion of a bike lane remains open in its current form it exposes the public to more danger and the city to far more liability than the Roberta Walker case which was settled for $11 million.
This latest incident will no doubt be added to the current list of pending lawsuits from the other injured/killed cyclists that have been harmed while riding in Encinitas’ “protected” bike lanes.

There are so many great examples of conversions of polluting low use railroads just like this one that have converted to amazing assets of the community, which are good for mother earth, and public health.
