National City 's Jose Rodriguez can't recall

When he spoke at our city's council meeting National City Councilmember Jose Rodriguez a very different story than the one he felt compelled to come to Encinitas to relate.

Here are the facts supported by his own voting record:

January 21 2025 - San Diego shelter beds - National City Council adopted Resolution 2025-07 authorizing an operating agreement between the San Diego Housing Commission and San Diego Rescue Mission for 37 beds at South County Lighthouse facility.

The vote was unanimous approval, with Rodriguez among the councilmembers present, for National City to consent formally to another city's housing agency funding beds at the facility.  This shows a regional arrangement approved by the National City Council.

So Rodriguez voted to approve other cities' use of National City beds - then he showed up in Encinitas and claimed he didn't know this?  Perhaps those in fervent support of his comments that night would like to explain this to the rest of us.

  1. I think this was instigated by some who are still upset that the Encinitas Council decided not to fund an extra $250.000 for Jewish Family Services to continue their program. Originally, they said that this service would be free. I was recently at the Senior Center, and I feel safer not having the people living in the parking lot on community land. I understand that homelessness is a hot potato in our city with many compassionate citizens, but I feel safer since our homeless population has dropped and these people on our public lot are gone.

    2. Homeless folks are in every lot in town, and most of them are north of 50 and living in their cars, you're just not aware of it...

      Delete
    3. I am of the opinion that the overnight lot was more of a magnet than a solution. In order to qualify for the original grant, they had to count homeless from neighboring cities to serve them in Encinitas. Up to that point, the cities of Oceanside, Vista, Escondido and Carlsbad had turned down JFS to place their lot in these cities. Were people who objected to this project in other cities also attacked personally?

      Delete
    4. That doesn't necessarily follow, ie people found about the lot all over the county and showed up. Vista now has a lot, not sure what the reaction locally was. But like I say, the homeless are there, all over town, every day, right now. What's the solution for people living in their cars? The issue remains.....

    5. Kick them out.

Let them go find board in cheaper areas or set up low cost ( that’s an oxymoron with government) big contracted boarding centers (Run by private industry ) out in cheap areas like the desert by Yuma.,

The taxpayers event is are going to work grinding every day to afford these huge taxes that we pay for this dysfunctional local government. It’s not like we like trading all the hours of our life for paychecks to pay for these taxes..

We would appreciate if the local government didn’t waste them all on deadwood at City Hall and actually built some needed infrastructure.

    6. Homeless people have their standards, too! If you lived in a car, wouldn't you rather set up near a beach with ample support resources than in Vista? This is why beyond being a solution for Encinitas homeless, the lots were drawing people from all over.

    7. Was there no one or hordes of yucky out of towners using it? Get your stories straight.

    8. I don't buy that the majority of the people in the Encinitas overnight parking lot were from Encinitas. I think that many were from out of town.

  3. One would think a councilman from another own would show even the smallest amount of respect for our city council.

Those who brought him here, deserve to lose big time in the next election.

That was a low move, even for those who encouraged him.

Even with uncle Bruce and all his fuck ups with Arizona Jenny, Wasting millions of dollars and not listening to the public at all and they’re still smashed the Freakshow.?

My question is why do they allow developer whore Joy talk so much during council meetings?

Ehlers sure know how to waste time and run an inefficient meeting. Six hours. What a freaking joke. Some of those council agenda items were so ridiculous.

The Freakshow are ugly, dumb, and do not matter.

  14. Does Mali stage events and excoriate the council in her own city of Carlsbad about their lack of action on homelessness and ICE raids?

    1. Does Rachel contribute in her home city of Carlsbad? We know she's attended at least one city council council there with her good friend deputy mayor Jim O'Hara (the one the screeched at a councilman for attending a council meeting in a city where he doesn't live) this week.

    2. 10:03 she’s got the council majority on her side, so no need at this point. Anyone steps out of line and you better believe she’ll be Johnny on the spot.

  15. <<<<<<<>>>> The Tribune article mentioned, Jose lied about his degree. NCity RMission permit did not exclude providing beds to other cities. Encintas City council and Mayor provided a rational augurment. They took action, provided shelter and saved money. What was selfish was placing ego, power and politics over the lives of the unhoused.

    ReplyDelete

    1. The councilmen aren't providing shelter, that's the point. National City is, because Encintas is now controlled by selfish aholes looking for MAGA points.

Wealthy shitbag communities will always try to push their basic responsibilities on others, and the cities that end up having to accommodate them/us are low income areas like National City.

Encinitas has become a city of assholes, lets just leave it there. They're proud of the label, because it may result in higher home values, which means they can sell and move to a town with even more assholes just like them.

    2. Senator Catherine Blakespear introduced the first outsourced shelter? Did you protest?

    3. I recall that she placed homeless in Encinitas hotels and motels where there was constant police activity for fights, drugs, and other issues. When the money ran out, she kicked them to the streets with no plan for how to help them. I don't call that compassionate.

      Delete
    4. She had no long term plan. Most likely grabbed some grant funds and was hoping to score an image win. It was reported, that many of the residents wanted more than shelter and many were pist they had to keep moving. Hotel shelter was not managed well

      Delete
    5. There wasn't constant police activity except for the chaos caused by the numbskull Watchdorks with nothing better to do during covid than stalk and harrass people with less.

Now these losers are commissioners and the councilmen's leading maga supporters.

The funding for the hotel rooms came from pandemic restrictions, not the state senator you maustarbate to daily.

  21. Vista/Encinitas shelter
Buena Creek Navigation Center, as it was officially dubbed this week, is set to provide services and shelter for people experiencing homelessness as early as January 2024. State Sen. Catherine Blakespear (D-Encinitas) was responsible for netting $5 million in state funding to make the shelter a reality.

The Encinitas and Vista city councils signed a memorandum of understanding this week, agreeing to work together and putting out a request for proposals from service providers who would carry out the day-to-day operations and provide case management. ’
