Barth starts nonprofit group to educate Encinitas residents

Encinitas Advocate:
Barth recently announced the launch of Engage Encinitas, a nonprofit that aims to nurture civic engagement and a sense of community. This includes hosting community potlucks, forums on local issues and volunteer opportunities.

“People are focused on slices, but not necessarily the whole of the community,” said Barth, who is the president of Engage Encinitas. “This is the 21st century approach to a service organization, where we’re engaging people across a spectrum of topics.”

[...]

Another group goal: inform the community. Engage Encinitas will organize forums so that residents can listen to experts speak on relevant topics like protecting coastal infrastructure in the face of rising sea levels.

“We’re not here telling people how to think,” Barth said. “We’re going to give them the tools to have an understanding of relevant issues.”

  1. Good luck with that…. Barth needs to understand that to learn, one must first listen.

  2. Haven't you caused enough damage? TB is a disease.

  3. Barth is like a parasite that won't go away. She is no longer in politics. Take a lesson from $tock$ -- we don't want you any more. Go away. Stay aware. We would all appreciate it.

Have fun at your own meetings Barth. Only a handful of your friends will show up.

  4. Is this about providing tools or being a tool?

  5. Does one need to form a formal group and seek recognition in the press to pick up trash ?? Really ?? REALLY?? I pick up trash on the 101 when ever I see it and never call the newspapers to photograph it....this is nothing but Barth and friends trying to remain relevant. They are not . Go away!!!

  6. Barth, the trash picker upper. Astounding.

  7. True to form a large clean up was orchestrated the week before so they cleaned up an already clean beach. Does that surprise you? No communication or awareness of all the existing clean ups going on by youth & church groups that just do it and don't look for photo ops.

  8. There have been tons of people and groups that have picked up trash on the beach for many years. They don't get recognized and want their name and picture in the paper. Barth needs to lose her big inflated ego that she collected while on council.

I suppose she is looking to rename the Pacific Ocean after her?

  9. How insulting that Barth wants to educate residents in Encinitas. I would bet that most of the trash and debris on the beach come from those who visit this city.

Note to Barth: The residents of Encinitas are very well educated with no thanks to you. Unless you proclaim you are an expert in education, please refrain from your attempts at trying to enlighten us. You, my dear, could probably use our expertise.

    1. Did Teresa graduate from college? This is a serious question because she has told some that she graduated from St. Mary's. I read someone on this blog say that she was a college drop out. Which is it? I would not care except that her story does not match what someone wrote on the blog....again!

    2. Which begs the question, do you believe the person, or a blog where people are anonymous?

    3. From her website, verbatim
      :

"I am a third-generation resident of the San Dieguito area. I grew up in Del Mar, attended high school in Hawaii and returned to California in 1976. My husband Don & were married in 1979 and lived in Solana Beach before moving to Cardiff-by-the-Sea in 1994.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles."

  10. This seems like a copy of 'We Love Encinitas,' and is ANYTHING BUT nonpartisan. Instead, it is a way for Barth to push her failed political agenda and try to restore her tarnished public image after she was basically pushed out of the Mayor's race after being caught in one too many lies.

She had to step out after she wrote in her newsletter that the Lew Edwards contract would only cost $20,000, while a citizen had done a records request that showed that this was a blatant lie. On the same day of the records request, consultant Catherine Lew was coaching Vina what to tell council and they had agreed that the price for an education campaign to trick voters into approving for tax increases was over $160,000. That night, Barth tried to get Council to vote it through, though it was listed as an informational item.

While picking up trash is a very juvenile first project and is completely unoriginal, it may be the most productive action that Barth, Shaffer and Kranz have taken in the past 2 years.

Now they will tell us how wonderful they are!

    1. Why don't Barth and Gaspar work together and call it "We Love to Engage Encinitas?"

  11. Prediction: Barth's non- profit will be yet another booster for The Housing Element ballot item for the 2016 election.

    1. Perhaps, but as a non-profit they won't be able in participate in the election campaign. Unless they are NOT organized as a 501 (c) (3). If they have another designation, it would be duplicitous, as their real motives would be showing..

    2. 3:44.

You'd be surprised what they can get away with:

    3. 10. Employees of 501(c)(3)s cannot participate in a candidate's campaign for elective office.

Not true. It is true that a 501(c)(3) organization is prohibited from endorsing, contributing to, working for, or otherwise supporting (or opposing) a candidate for public office. However, this does not prohibit the officers, directors, members, or employees of a 501(c)(3) organization from participating in a political campaign, provided that they say or do everything as private citizens and not as spokespersons for or agents of the organization, and not while using the organization's resources or assets in any manner.

  12. EU: right you are. There are many levels of "definition" to a non profit/political stance.A lot of grey area. A lot of "Unintended Consequences". DEMA took a very public anti-Prop A campaign to the extreme. And on our tax payers dime.

  13. Maybe she should fund raise for the PV and Lifeguard tower trophy projects and repay the $13,000,000 DEBT she blew along with Kranz and Shaffer.

  14. Barth and Kranz ran on a platform of "Truth and Transparency." We were expecting actions to match the motto!
