La Paloma Theatre showing The Interview

In a move foreseen by the prescient local blog Encinitas Guerrilla, La Paloma Theatre is currently showing The Interview, the movie cancelled by large theater chains after online threats supposedly coming from an offended North Korea.

If you're capable of enjoying Seth Rogen stoner comedies, go see it. It's pretty entertaining if you set your expectations correctly. A star is born in Randall Park, the actor who plays an emotionally complex Kim Jong-Un.

  1. I wonder if the Encinitas Guerrilla will turn out to be right about that butt thing.

  3. The Interview is trash; don't waste your money. It will be in Redbox in about another week for $0.99 and that is still too much to pay. Go see the Yogananda movie and actually get something of value for the dough.

  4. Lets "interview" our city council members. Anyone of them interested in supporting this totally flubbed housing element update is no better than Jerome $tock$.

Come on City Council, you have been on a good role lately by terminating the Vina's reign. Now lets see you take some additional leadership and call for a rebooting off the housing element update. The way staff has outlined the effort and already established candidate properties for low income with no public notice or input is ridiculous and completely retarded.

Either call for a reboot where you clearly outline the parameters on the process, or prepare for a wicked 2 years that will piss off a whole lot of neighborhood and get you all fired for being incompetent.

You don't want to go down in history as being on the top 5 worse City Council members in the history of Encinitas. Sorry to say it, but with the votes of last year including Prop A, Density Bonus, downtown, and PV it looks like many of you may be heading for that list. Barth is on it in my books for bringing us Vina. Can you say "strategic planning"?

We all knew that was code for buy me 2 years to try and get grounded and come up with some kind of long term financial plan. When the reality started becoming known- Vina Split. Thanks for nothing Barth and Gaspar.

At least Gaspar has been voting better than the most of the rest of council lately.

    1. The then-council approved hiring Vina on May 24, 2011. The vote was unanimous. Bond was mayor. The other council members were Stocks, Gaspar, Houlihan and Barth.

How do you figure Barth alone brought us Vina?

    2. I believe Barth and Patrick Murphy led the search committee that selected Vina.

    3. Whoever led the search used a headhunter who specializes in offering and placing public employees. There were a bunch of candidates in '11. The then-council unanimously chose Vina. It's not right to pin Vina solely on Barth.

    4. Barth is not solely responsible. The subcommittee was Barth and Gaspar who recommended loser Vina. Then the full council at the time has financial blood on their hands.

In addition, 2 years in Vina already showed his incompetence by robbing all the CIP money to build the regional sports park without ever completing a long term financial plan on how the long term debt and maintenance costs would effect the financial health of the City. What did Barth do? She led the team to give Vina an "excellent" review. WTF?

When Barth, Kranz and Shaffer took office the first order of business should have been to fire the incompetent/crooked loser and hire a real City Manager.

For that reason- Barth remains on the top 5 worse list. Of course $tock$ lead that list for his 35% increase in his own and all City Pensions in one nights vote.

Barth had the opportunity to turn around City Hall and she did nothing but sign on for one more trophy project called PV. That is the opposite of leadership in my opinion.

    5. 5:09,

Thank you for the correction. I guess Barth and Murphy must have been the committee that selected consultants MiG, who gave us the $1 million failed General Plan Update.

    6. That is a great 'guess' 6:11 AM, because that is exactly what happened. Barth ran the subcommittee that allowed an outside NGO to write the cities Climate Action Plan, also Barth ran the subcommittee that searched for a vendor to assist Murphy, being MIG from Berkeley for a mil plus: but it was Houlihan, not Barth that drove the Vina Bus by not allowing consideration of candidates who wanted over $215K per year: So, in review, Vina earns cred, gets a bump in pay and relocates up north, we are left with a council determined not to work together: Shaffer V Gaspar should be a blast: Shaffer's arrogance and 'ethics' versus Gaspar's Velvet Sledgehammer approach: of course, Gaspar doesn't have to lug Tony around with her, advantage Gaspar. Note: there was recently quite a battle behind the scenes when Shaffer was forced to admit that legally she needed to recuze herself from voting on the supposed school-zone mph reduction on Quail Gardens Drive.

How will the council find and agree on a city manager that will knowingly undertake to break local, state and county laws? Only moments away from Sheila Cameron demanding that she and others be allowed to sit on the subcommittee to interview candidates. What fun! See y'all Sat. for the park opening.

    7. Do you mean the regional sports park that will sink Encinitas finances to oblivion.

    8. Shouldn't the tax payers of this fine city be the ones interviewing candidates for CM job?? Council has fucked up every prior selection.

    9. Take 5:09 with several grains of salt. Vina did not fund the park on his own. Stocks did not raise pensions on his own. 5:09 is the Fox News of this blog.

    10. Mike at 7:28 am

Park is already open. Activities have been going on. Unless you want a photo op, best to stay away.

    11. The park is beautiful. Glad it has finally opened. They ignored community input, but it's time to let it go and enjoy the park as it is.

I ran through there this morning, and sadly, the TFlats gang scum have already tagged a wall near the Cardiff Glen ped gate. Slimy douchebags.

    12. Fields not regulation size, dugouts so small you have to be Kate Moss's kid to go through them - no lights - so definitely NOT a regional sports park! Other than that, it's very nice.

  6. I've been following this "The Interview" issue from the beginning, before our President decided to outsource foreign policy to Sony Pictures, and when rattling the saber at N.Korea made sure that the world knew that he was in sync with the stoner mentality of the film. And sure enough, his popularity got a pop. Here's the link my article along with addenda that adds to the potential danger of the narrative that has caught on.

    1. Sure glad you're following the issue, Al. Your skewed view bears little relation to reality. Pay attention to what really happened, and get your head screwed on straight.

  7. Park opening? Enjoy the parade of stinky cars and noise pollution! What a joke!

    1. You think the noise and traffic are bad, you should see that parcel with a couple hundred houses on it.

Park is better than the alternative.

    2. Park with houses built in accordance with underlying zoning and no density bonus best alternative, but that's not how Encinitas rolls.

Sad how used we've become to worst-case scenarios as "normal."

  8. ALERT!
That always transparent city council is having a special/closed session meeting to select the interim city manager. Get up early because ----
The special meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 8:30 AM and retire immediately into closed session after comments from the public.

Yes, Thursday, a Council non-meeting day at 8:30 AM
    .
Will the always transparent city council choose an insider such as a director of one of the departments?

  9. Insiders who were hand-picked and coached to "excellence" by Vina? No, thank you!
