Jacob Lightig, age 19, of Encinitas, CA, was arrested for multiple charges, including residential burglary, driving under the influence of alcohol, fleeing the scene of a traffic collision and grand theft auto.First thought was that this was another messed-up Encinitas trustafarian like that girl from the D Street Bar & Grill stabbing, but there's not much record of a Lightig family in Encinitas, so maybe just a short-timer passing through.
On Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at approximately 10:00 a.m., a male suspect entered a residence in the 600 block of Ocean Ave. in Seal Beach through an open garage door. The suspect stole a car from the location using keys found in the residence. Witnesses called the Seal Beach Police Department to report the auto theft, which prompted a radio broadcast to all law enforcement agencies in Orange County to be on the lookout for the stolen car. At approximately 4:30 p.m., several hours after the vehicle was taken, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department received a call of a hit-and-run traffic collision in the City of Dana Point. The vehicle drove a short distance further and the driver exited the car. The witness followed the driver and directed responding Deputies to Lightig, who was arrested without incident.
Lightig sustained minor injuries as a result of the traffic collision. The vehicle sustained major damage. Lightig was booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of residential burglary, driving under the influence of alcohol, fleeing the scene of a traffic collision and grand theft auto.

thats our boy. Making us sooo proud. Good job parents!
ReplyDeleteI bet he was well known in our "vibrant" downtown bar scene that we all can be so proud of.
ReplyDeleteThanks council, for setting such a good example of what we have lost for any longterm residents remaining who can remember how special a place we used to have here before you let the bar scene mentality take over our town.
That you continue to refuse to moderate this situation and rely upon those very same bar owners to regulate their income source, is to your detriment come 2016. No DAO, no likey, no votey, see you, don't wanna be you, come election time. Step up, now. Show some backbone that you care to protect this community.
8:46, Yes. Its a fact that when you clean up a downtown area, vibrancy will ruin the purest of sons and daughters no matter how good their upbringing may have been. All of the evidence points to Lightig drinking in downtown Encinitas, which led him to steal a car and want to party in vibrant Dana Point. I can only hope for his parents sake they never donated money to any particular political party or they're obviously in on the corruption.
DeleteThe City Council should be very proud what our town has become known as and what the drinking establishments have contributed to our great society. I hope all of your kids grow up to be just like this. After all, this is what you are teaching them.
ReplyDelete9:54, I knew it wasn't Lightin's fault. Thank you for clearing that up.
DeleteAre you kidding me? You two posters are idiots. There is absolutely no connection between this criminal and Encinitas bars. He isn't even old enough to drink in Encinitas bars. You people need to get a life beyond this blog.
ReplyDelete7:20, Actually, those two posters are me, and lips that touch liquor will never touch mine.
Delete11:22, just curious. Is this this a life-long position, or did you quit drinking after having a problem?
DeleteI will never understand the mentality of people who have major personal problems, and then try to tell the rest of us how we're doing it wrong.
12:42, And that's why you're neither a psychiatrist or possess a sense of humor.
DeleteOf course! It makes so much sense!
ReplyDeleteEncinitas has bars. This 19-year-old man got drunk and committed multiple felonies up the coast. . .
Ergo. . .
The existence of bars here is the direct and proximate CAUSE of the criminal behaviors. Have I got that right?
It makes so much sense, too. Because there are dry counties across the rural South, and they have zero crime. None.
If only we could pass a Deemed Approved Ordinance, that would have also prevented this specific incident from happening. Oakland passed one many years ago, and since that time, they have had zero burglaries, zero stolen cars, and zero DUIs.
When will our council awaken to these unassailable facts?
Perhaps you would like to sign my online petition making our entire county dry? http://closesindiegonow.com
DeleteThere is nothing unique about Encinitas that a 19 year old got drunk and got into trouble. If it could be shown than Encinitas has a greater proportion of 19 year olds in trouble versus other similar communities, there may be some news. Even if that were true, it may be correlated to something other than bars.
ReplyDeleteIf only we could ban birth control, then girls would not have the idea that they could have sex, and premarital sex would end.
8:27 The guys need to keep their pants zipped. That would solve a lot of problems.
Delete8:27 That's gonna happen.
DeleteWC, I appreciate the platform as always, but we're getting pretty far afield when we are talking about some drunk kid in Encinitas breaking into a place in Seal Beach. Sorry to say that we have had an alcohol problem in this whole country for awhile, especially with kids and binge drinking. I just get frustrated hearing about it, because your only remedy is cops, cops, and more cops. Luckily using taxis and other rented vehicles seems to be more in vogue, so there are less drunks on the roads. There's a reason I never moved downtown, because you knew this would come eventually. It's kind of like moving near the airport and complaining about the jets. Sadly personal responsibility doesn't come into play much when you give people a night out and a lot of booze, and this from a guy who spent a lot of years in a nightclub...

Two former ne'er-do-wells bemoaning the current crop.
DeleteMany of us were young and dumb once. I don't think kids today are in any way different or worse. I'm sure my generation was accountable for behavior that ranged from annoying to dangerous to criminal and fatal. Not trying to excuse it, just pointing out that there is little new under the moon at closing time.
EU is right about Uber. They have made it hip, cool, convenient, and cheap to do the right thing. Now they need to upgrade the app to automatically pocket-taser the privates of anyone who abuses or throws rocks at their Uber driver.
I agree about the taxis. And think how many lives Uber has saved because it has made safe transport cheap and easy!
DeleteWhen I was a young ne'er-do-well, a taxi ride home cost as much as a whole night of drinking... or more. Now an Uber ride is about the cost of a single pint of beer at Union!
I remember a time when the cops just took you home!!!
Delete- The Sculpin
Where there still gas lamps on the streets then too?
Delete10:21, You from Mayberry?
