A $1000 art piece instead of a $10 certificateTechnically, it's two $500 art pieces, but the point stands.

But hey, that will help justify our $127,000 Arts Administrator position!
We're still underfunding road maintenance, by the way...
The Arts director has the easiest job in the city. $127K plus a pension... even Norby didn't collect a pension from the city.
ReplyDeleteActually the pay is just $97K. The other $30K is health insurance and pension.
DeletePlus a city vehicle and phone and free healthcare for life.
DeleteI don't think they get the free healthcare for life any more.
DeleteBut with huge set-for-life pensions at 55 years old, they can cover health care costs easily.
Absolutely ridiculous.
DeleteWhile he is a nice guy, there is something wrong with the model that we are paying someone this much money to recruit professional artists and musicians to perform for free. Personally, I think they should pay someone about 1/2 that amount and pay some of those Julliard-trained performers something for their work.
DeleteThere is something wrong when city workers get paid so much and those who have true expertise are asked to volunteer their hours.
Well it looks like the City is only contributing $500. From the EAP press release:
ReplyDeleteThe award winners in each of the two categories will receive an award crafted by a local artist. Local artists are sought to submit proposals for environmentally-themed artwork: the Solicitation with full details is available on the City website given above. An art jury will select two artists for commissions of $500 for each award. Thus, the EAP not only raises environmental awareness, but it also supports the local art community.
The EAP is administered by the City's Environmental Commission. Matching funds have been generously donated by the Surfing Madonna Oceans Project. Surfing Madonna holds its popular 5K, 10K and 10-Mile runs at Moonlight Beach on October 24, and has granted EAP stage time for its award ceremony. Surfing Madonna ("Save the Ocean") and the EAP are closely aligned in their goals.
The Encinitas EAP is the first award of its kind in San Diego County, and is one of few in the United States.
What is the EAP?
ReplyDeleteIs it one of these:
The Early Assessment Program (EAP)
Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP)
Education Abroad Program (EAP)
Why doesn't the city give the $1000 to fund an environmental program at the schools if the Council doesn't want to add the money to fix the roads?
Isn't there a better use of the $1000 than a 12"x12" artwork that will gather dust?
EAP = Environmental Award Program
ReplyDeleteAn "Arts Administrator"??? And how is this a full time job? So much for fiscal austerity.....
ReplyDeleteAsk about the "intern". Oh yes, he has one.
ReplyDeleteEncinitas is way too fat with staff. Compare staff numbers against carlsbad weighted for population. Or solana beach. Encinitas is getting milked.
ReplyDeleteEliminate the Art Director position and let him volunteer his time.
