Council to hire new city manager from Santa Barbara

 Encinitas Advocate:

The Encinitas City Council will consider [sic] appointing Pamela W. Antil as its next city manager at its Sept. 9 city council meeting, according to a city news release. Antil became the top candidate after a nationwide search to replace Encinitas’ previous city manager, Karen Brust, who retired in June after nearly five years with the city. If the item is approved, Antil would begin on Oct. 12, 2020.

Antil has more than 25 years of experience directly managing and advising local government agencies across the country including small and large cities such as San Jose, Calif., Ann Arbor, Mich., and Palo Alto, Calif. Since 2015, she has been serving as the assistant city administrator for the city of Santa Barbara, Calif.

“We’re really excited to have Pam join our team,” said Mayor Catherine Blakespear. “Her experience in the city managers’ offices in Santa Barbara and Palo Alto, as well as other cities, gives her a depth of knowledge that will be invaluable here in Encinitas.”

Dysfunction at City Hall: How the City Manager Office Broke Down

Remember how Encinitas ran Gus Vina out of town after the backroom giveaway of the Little League field and the taxable bond fiasco? Those rubes in Brentwood didn't have a clue.

  1. I had heard that for many years Santa Barbara was able to stave off the crazy growth that we have seen else where on account of their shortage of water. Recently, I heard that they have had to yield to high-density developers. If this city manager is part of that initiative--watch out! Considering who is making this final selection, I think that we need to investigate this further. Some have said that Blakespear never met a developer she didn't like--maybe because i heard her dad is a developer, too.

  2. "Had to yield?" Perfect fit for blakespear.

Also Antil has never been a city manager, only assistant. blakespear anticipates with glee the molding of a yes woman.

  7. I can't believe that we keep hiring people like this. People that are not coming from a stable job. First I would disqualify anyone coming from a California City. Look at this state and how it is run. That is what we are going to get from a city manager that has only worked in far left cities.

  10. I can think of 12 Encinitas residents that could run this city better than all the previous city managers. She'll do just as the mayor and staff tell her. Another worthless overpaid, over-pensioned, do nothing bureaucrat. What is her salary?? What are her benefits?? How much is she getting in a "moving expense"?
