Happy 5th Anniversary, Surfing Coronavirus!

 April 2, 2020:

Kim Prather, a leading atmospheric chemist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, wants to yell out her window at every surfer, runner, and biker she spots along the San Diego coast.

“I wouldn’t go in the water if you paid me $1 million right now,” she said.

The beach, in her estimation, is one of the most dangerous places to be these days, as the novel coronavirus marches silently across California.

  1. What's wrong with the water right now? Algae blooms beginning? Hepatitis? Runoff? What's wrong with the water in San Diego besides all the normal stuff. I hear this all the time and it's always a big nothing burger.

    1. Kim Prather was the lady that thought the corona virus would travel from the runoff into the ocean. Then could survive in the surf zone. She thought the waves would kick up the virus out of the water make it airborne and killing or injuring all its path. Absolutely ridiculous. She was a nutty as they come.

    2. Wrong.

      Read the article.

      She said it was a possibility that was yet to be researched.

      The headline of the article is “Scientists UNSURE. . . “

    3. 3:32 wrong!

      Title: "UC San Diego virus expert pleads with surfers to stay out of the ocean to avoid coronavirus."

      "Kim Prather — a UC San Diego atmospheric scientist who studies how viruses and bacteria are ejected from the ocean — pleaded with surfers on Monday to stay out of the water to minimize their chances of contracting the coronavirus." As a scientist she was wrong, but go ahead and trust the science, which is wrong half the time because there's always a scientist on the other side of the coin saying the opposite.

      Which proves my point in just how wrong Kim Prather's hypothesis was.

      “If you don’t care about your own life, that’s one thing. But this can be a matter of life or death to other people." - Kim Prather. She was wrong, the coronavirus was not living in the surf zone lurking like Jaws. But what a great Hollywood movie idea, loser.

    3. 3:33 you're making my point. Kim Prather came to a crazy conclusion that science didn't back.

      UC San Diego virus expert Kim Prather pleads with surfers to stay out of the ocean to avoid coronavirus. She's supposedly an expert, but she was wrong and global from the WHO and CDC didn't back her.

      In the end science didn't back her, and her fear mongering was absolutely ridiculous.

      Thank you for making my point and so it remain the true shit hole loser would be you.

      Delete
    5. She didn’t make any conclusions, because as she stated, no scientific research had been done yet.

      She simply stated that it was a possibility, based on other research she had done regarding wave-generated aerosols. Based on that potential, she warned people about a risk that they may not have considered.

      Just because the potential problem didn’t prove out doesn’t mean she was wrong to raise it, or that you were right. You had even less information than she did at the time.

  4. Only shit hole losers who can't think for themselves, can't do their own due diligence tend to believe everything that scientist tell them. Then they scream at everyone to "TRUST THE SCIENCE". Do these trust the scientist lab rats in our population apologize to all the people they screamed out when science changes its mind.

    I recall Fauci "the science" telling us that if we got the vaccine and all the jabs we'd be safe from receiving or transmitting the Corona Virus, boy was he "the science" wrong.

    Think for yourself, don't be a lab rat.

    1. Interesting. Show us the study published in a reputable journal that concluded that any vaccine blocked transmission of the virus completely.

      I’m going to predict that you will not provide a link to published research.

      Delete
    2. 4:10 you make my point again.

      1. Mask Guidance: Early in the pandemic, Fauci and other health experts downplayed the general public's need to wear masks, primarily to preserve supplies for healthcare workers. Later, as more was learned about the virus's transmission, he and others strongly recommended mask-wearing for everyone in public settings, particularly indoors.

      He downplayed masks at the beginning, he was wrong.

      Delete
    3. 2. Asymptomatic Transmission: Early in the pandemic, there was uncertainty about the role of asymptomatic individuals in spreading the virus. Initially, it was thought that people who weren’t showing symptoms weren’t significant transmitters. However, research later showed that asymptomatic and presymptomatic individuals could spread the virus, leading to stronger calls for universal precautions.

      He was initially wrong about transmission of the virus.

      Delete
    4. 4:10

      3. Herd Immunity: Fauci, at different times, used varying thresholds for what might be considered herd immunity, ranging from 60% to 80% or higher. As new variants emerged and data continued to be collected, those figures shifted. The concept of herd immunity was also complicated by the fact that vaccines weren’t immediately available worldwide, and the virus kept evolving.

      He was wrong about Heard Immunity.

      Delete
    5. 4:10

      4. The Effectiveness of Vaccines Against Variants: Initially, there was hope that the vaccines would provide near-complete immunity. As variants like Delta and Omicron emerged, it became clear that while vaccines still provided strong protection against severe disease, they were less effective at preventing infection altogether. Boosters were then recommended to maintain strong immunity, especially against variants.

      Fauci again got it wrong.

      Delete
    6. 4:10 bottom line, science isn’t always initially right, sometimes science has to evolve. I’d rather wait and watch science evolve before trusting science, getting a vaccine and finding out a few later that science got it wrong.

      Delete
    7. How is it wrong to preserve a limited supply of PPE so that hospitals will have it?

      You are so dumb.

      If the virus turned out to be more virulent than it was, and hospitals had no PPE, the healthcare workers would have been removed from the equation and no treatments would have been available.

      Every time I think you’ve reached peak stupidity, you climb still higher.

      Delete
    8. 4:38 the vast majority of people who died from the virus had underlying health conditions. Obese, emphysema, elderly, cancer, etc. A small fraction of those people died.

      Being middle aged and healthy, was not worth the risk of getting the virus. Too much of gamble to trust the science with my life when I’m healthy. That’s called logic, something you’re missing.

      Delete
    9. 4:36,

      Science is never done.

      Science is: “this is the best answer we have today—right now—based on all available evidence and testing.”

      The longer the answer is the same, and the more experiments confirm it, the more reliable the answer is. But it’s never absolute.

      For hundreds of years Newton’s theory of gravity was the best explanation. Until Einstein. But we still use Newton to send projectiles many times faster than a bullet to hit asteroids themselves traveling many times faster than a bullet.

      The fact that science is always falsifiable isn’t a weakness, it’s a strength. And the fact that it may change is not a forecast that it will change.

      Delete
    10. 4:45,

      Many people in the World Trade Center on 9/11 had high blood pressure. Some of them were overweight.

    11. 4:45 and that is the exact reason I don’t “trust the science”, because it’s always evolving, which is a nice way of saying it’s often wrong.

    12. “ Early in the pandemic, there was uncertainty about the role of asymptomatic individuals in spreading the virus.”

      Then,

      “ He was initially wrong about transmission of the virus.”

      So uncertainty is wrong. Got it.

      So I guess the current uncertainty about life on other planets automatically means science is currently wrong.

      This is exceptional stupidity.

      You seem to trust it just fine when you drive a car or use a computer or visit your doctor.

      I think what you mean to say is you selectively distrust science when it reaches conclusions you don’t like.

      Delete
    14. 6:18, here’s the flaw in your argument. Common sense!

      Buying a car or using a computer isn’t going to kill me or potentially have adverse side effects on my health in the future.

      Taking a random vaccine that was rushed through by pharmaceutical companies that don’t have a perfect track record could have severe consequences.

      Pfizer, Moderna, J&J have been sued many many times over the years for creating bad drugs that have hurt people, all with good intentions.

      Do trust every financial advisor who tells you to buy a stock simply because they’re a financial advisor? Do trust every automotive company that tells you they have the best car, simply because they’re in the automotive industry.

      Use your head lab rat!

      Delete
    15. 6:16 "uncertainty" is not the option I'd like to place my life bet on. Science is wrong until it's proven right. Remember when science told us smoking cigarettes and drinking coca-cola was just fine. Science has been wrong about ulcers, fat and heart disease, the roll of sugar, mental health, fertility and age, the benefits of low fat diets, genetics, cholesterol, etc etc etc.

      Bottom line, science is usually wrong initially until they get things right.

      I didn't want to be the lab rat until science got it right.

      I'm very happy I didn't get my COVID 19 shot, and I'm happy that I have a strong immune system that doesn't need jabs every few months.

      Good luck to you Lab Rat!

      s a method to the madness, and it's ever evolving. Without science, there is no cure for polio. Pretty simple....Bet you got that shot.....

      Delete
    17. 9:52 I’m an advocate of getting the polio vaccine because the vaccine truly prevents you from contracting polio. The consequences of contracting polio is usually death.

      On the other hand getting the COVID vaccine does not prevent you from contracting or spreading COVID therefore it’s not a true vaccine.

      Finally the chances of dying from COVID are so astronomically low unlike Polio that again it’s not worth the risk of injecting yourself with speculative science. Big difference between Polio and COVID.

      But hey you be you, trust the science and keep being a lab rat and we’ll see where that gets you.

      Good luck lab rat 🐀

      1,100,000 out of the 333,000,000 died from COVID in the United States or .33% since the COVID “pandemic”. Less than 1/3 of 1%.

      Or out of 333,000,000 people in the United States 332,000,000 survived from COVID.

      On top of that over 90% of those deaths were from people who had severe underlying health conditions (gonna die no matter what).

      So if you’re not a Tony Kranz, the walking Cheese Burger, you have a 99.9999999999% chance of being just fine when contracting COVID.

      I’d hardly call that Russian roulette!

      I would however call getting Science injected into me Russian roulette.

    Trump trade advisor Peter Navaro brags that the tax hike will raise $6T over ten years. That’s over $47,000 per US household.

    1. Dear readers,

      We can tell this is a shithole loser because of the ease with which they lie.

      3/4 of Americans did not vote for the Fat Orange Turd.

      In fact, Trump got less than 50% of votes cast. 49.8% to be exact.

      And relative to all Americans, the shithole losers who voted for the lying felon represent only 22.7%

      The person above takes issue with my characterization of the modern GOP as shithole losers. But notice that they don’t dispute any of the facts presented in support of the characterization.

      And here’s a new one.

      If GOP policies and leadership are effective at bringing about favorable outcomes, then why are the worst states on every meaningful facet of human life the states with the longest and deepest association with GOP policies and leadership?

      In this case, premature births. Premature birth is associated with stress brought on by alcohol and drugs, poverty, poor nutrition, obesity, illness, smoking, poor healthcare, domestic violence, fear, lack of sleep—basically a shitty life.

      The March of Dimes annually publishes a scorecard on premature birth. The US as a whole gets a D+, dragged down by states that are—well, see for yourself.

    1. Even if this happens, the long term impacts will be devastating.

      Our best trading partners have come to the realization that we are no longer a reliable trading partner and it’s risky to have too much of their economy tied to trade with us.

      Look for Canada and Mexico to make major concessions and give much more favorable trading terms to the EU, Brazil, and China. Expect less supply availability and higher prices for the US for timber, steel, concrete, auto parts, aluminum, cars, etc. over the next decade as they seek to decrease their exposure to an unreliable trading partner.

      All nations will give better deals—they will pay a price and make sacrifices to shift their trade flows from the US to more reliable partners.

      The US will pay a penalty rate for goods and services. We now represent a risk, and in the market, risk has a built-in price.

    9. 7:21, stop. You are embarrassing yourself.

      Fixed rates have nothing to do with inflation.

      For the next 30 years, the amount I pay on the mortgage is fixed. The amount I receive in interest on a bond is fixed. And B is greater than A.

      Delete
    10. 7:31 idiot, of course there fixed rates, I’m talking about the value of your dollar on that investment. Inflation always has an impact on all investments.

      Delete
    11. 7:31 Long-Term Impact of inflation over the 30-year bond period. Inflation can significantly erode the value of the bond's fixed income, especially if inflation is high. This makes the bond less valuable in real terms, meaning its returns won't keep up with the rising cost of living.

      Stupid Lab Rat

    12. 7:37,

      I don’t know what to tell you. If you think having no mortgage beats having your home pay you to own it, then I guess that explains why you vote the way you do.

      Delete
    13. 7:31 B isn’t greater than A if your fixed dollar value is eroding with inflation.

      For example if you’re making a fixed $20,000 on your bond every year, will that $20,000 have the same buying power every year? I’ll answer that for you NO.

      Combine inflation with capital gains taxes on that interest and again, you’re better off paying your mortgage.

      You’re a stupid Lab Rat!

      Delete
    14. 7:41, the real current value of the dollars you get from a 30 year bond decline over time.

      But so do does the value of the dollars you use to pay the mortgage.

      It’s a wash.

      The point is, if I borrow money from a bank for 30 years at an effective rate of 1.8%, then lend that same amount to Uncle Sam for 30 years at a rate of 4.58%, then the interest payments I receive for 30 years will be larger than the payments I make for 30 years.

      I don’t think you get that my home is paying me to own it.

      Delete
    15. 7:42 does the bank require you to have full coverage premium insurance with that 30 year mortgage? I’ll answer that for you, YES.

      Would you have lower insurance premiums, lower insurance deductibles if you owned the house and the bank didn’t own it? I’ll answer that for you, Yes. So having a 30 year bond minus inflation, minus capital gains taxes, plus a bank breathing down your neck and requiring certain $$ items that protect the bank and you (Lab Rat) are at a loss.

      30 year Bonds are for Lab Rats.🐀

      Delete
    16. 7:48 you didn’t borrow money from the bank at 1.8%, your mortgage is 2.5% (which I think you making up) so when you factor capital gains tax, insurance the bank requires, etc, you in fact are not getting paid to own a house. Furthermore your money is tied up.

      Should’ve just paid off your mortgage, Lab Rat.

      Property and Casualty insurance premiums don’t care if the house is paid off or not. Why would they? They are pricing the risk of a fire, robbery, or your dog biting someone, none of which is affected by whether there’s a mortgage or not.

    Budget Hearing Next Week.

    Will Encinitas huge revenues be wasted on stacking the deadwood at City Hall as the infrastructure crumbles throughout the City?

    Will Bruce propose something different, or the same ol, same ol that has been proposed in last years budget?

    Encinitas budget issues:

    FY2024 budget fat

    How are the budgeted projects doing from a budget approved two years ago?

    The Budget reflects the Council’s direction to fund the following significant programs and projects:
    * $250K Citywide Rail Corridor Quiet Zone Analysis and Permitting;
    * $250K Storm Drain Repair, doubles annual funding to $500K;
    * $375K Leucadia At-Grade Crossing Design and Environmental (Grandview/Hillcrest and Glaucus);
    * $500K Santa Fe Drive Corridor Improvements (East Construction) Grant funded Project;
    * $240K Annual Street Overlay Paving Project - Add Streets (Rodney, Turner, Shields);
    * $311K Design New La Costa Ped Path - Vulcan to I-5; and
    * $250K Encinitas Habitat Stewardship Program (Net $0 administrative change moving budget detail from the Parks operating budget to a Work Project in the CIP budget, includes $150K increase directed during budget workshops).

    Here is the long list of full time employees approved in that budget with the Wrecking Crew Manager Campbell and Anthill proposing fat building and continued collecting deadwood and huge pension costs at City Hall while taking general funds away forever for needed maintenance projects:

    * $485K Pacific View Startup: Furniture & Fixtures, part-time Arts Coordinator (0.75) to FTE, part-time Facilities Specialist (0.75) to FTE;
    * $75K E-Bike/Bicycle Safety Training with School Districts;
    * Zero Waste Administrator (New FTE);
    * Sustainability Management Analyst (New FTE);
    * Lifeguards (2 New FTE);
    * $132K Marine Safety Lieutenant (New FTE);
    * $137K Housing Management Analyst (New FTE);
    * $155K Fire Administrative Training Captain (New FTE);
    * $150K Mobility Manager (New FTE); and
    * $330K Fire Apparatus Replacement Fund for 2023 Stock Pumper and 2023 Pierce Triple Enforcer fire engine leases.

    These costs do not include benefit and forever pension payment impacts.

    Here more complete incompetence of the Wreck Manager with her side kick Anthill doing the FY2024-2025 budget process.

    https://portal.laserfiche.com/Portal/DocView.aspx?id=844299&repo=r-d8c5c08d

    More waste budgeted for a few Kranz finger painting friends at the Second Senior Center and 200k for a Homelessness Building Manager for marketing the Fenty/Tweeker zombies to take Coaster up to beautiful beach living thanks to Kranz, BIA and CRC.

    🤮

    Bruce needs to wake up and take control of the situation. A reduction of 40 full time employees is needed many can come from Fire (focus on big cuts to the beach waste of biniki watchers (they call themselves bay watch - or lIfeguards- pfff), Parks and Recreation and Homeless building department.

    Greg Lafave had some of the best three minutes ever spoken into city Council. Mr. Lafave get it. Do you Bruce?

The fact is Encinitas is awash in revenue. The city is one of the richest in the county and has plenty of money to do plenty of capital projects. The problem is the current wrecking Crew at City Hall is completely incompetent.

    1. I made more yesterday in the market. It appears you are not smart enough to take advantage of the downturn.
      Study more and type less would be my advice.

  57. During Covid, One could walk up to a restaurant and get a to go cup of booze. Now, it's battle of happy hour prices.

    How can California, that leads the nation in poverty, not be a shit-hole loser state? Cleary the shit-hole states comments are bullshit. I'd rather read plane guys crap.

      Sounds like the complete bullshit and total illogical actions we experienced during Covid that killed public health and increased Suicide for children and other vulnerable classes.

      I think some folks need to be held accountable like Blakespear and Kranz. Anthill for sure.

  59. Hey this is great news!

    I can lay in the sand in the summer time for a year or two, while we kill all kinds of polar bears and other animals around the world by the pumping and moving sand around the natural coastline with diesel bulldozers and massive pumps that suck up and kill all the ocean life and spit the death slurry on the rocks for our summer time enjoyment.

    Why let nature do the work by reopening our natural river-mouths and letting the millions of cubic yards naturally, when we can burn millions of gallons of diesel and pump cancer causing air into our coastal communities and children's lungs?

    1. My gosh, some people are completely clueless.

      “We need to not just place sand, but to permanently change the shape of the coastline to keep that sand,” Jayme Timberlake, Oceanside’s coastal zone administrator, told the shoreline working group.

      You might as well say, I HATE nature. Lets build another seaworld along Oceanside's natural coastline.

      "Mother nature doesn't know shit. I went to community college and took a course in sand retention, so listen to me, I'm an expert."
