Encinitas’ communications director resigned this week, citing employment opportunities and family obligations.Though the creation of the position by Vina and a faction of the council was viewed by many as costly and unnecessary, Medford was widely liked and respected. We wish her well in her new ventures!
Marlena Medford, who held the position that had been a point of controversy with a number of local activists questioning its need, said Wednesday that she had submitted her letter of resignation on Monday.
Medford, who was hired in December 2013 by former City Manager Gus Vina, served as the city’s spokeswoman, point of contact for the media and spearheaded a number of the city’s social media and public outreach initiatives.

I agree! Marlena is a fine person and was a good reporter. It would be great if she were picked up by the LA Times. Step into the light MM!
ReplyDeleteHail Jesus!!! Now to get the another $8M in unnecessary hires to hit the road.
ReplyDeleteYes, farewell Marlena.
ReplyDeleteWhen is her last day?
ReplyDeleteAbolish the position - it was a folly to start with.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the position is unnecessary. Marlena is a good person, and was also excellent in her previous position, before Council, with Teresa Barth as Mayor, bowed to Gus Vina's pressure to hire her, to "market" his strategies.
ReplyDeleteShe is a cool person, I have met her several times. There was a lot of mud slung her way via this blog, so I wish her the best away from the haters. Someone had to fill that job, and it ended up being her, nothing wrong with that. Whether that position should have been created is another topic..
ReplyDeleteWhat mud slung ?
DeleteBy the various folks on the blog, it was done....

DeleteTry putting Medford in the search box at the top of the blog.
ReplyDelete3:01, WHY did someone have to fill that job? We lived long enough without anyone in that position and the City has hired other contractors to market for the Planning Department or to lie about Prop A. It doesn't seem to me that there is a lack of PR coming from the City since they are all highly complimentary of the work that they do.
ReplyDeleteLets hope Sabine is on the short list to go. Roads are getting worse and pensions are underfunded. Something has to give.
ReplyDeleteThey need to max pensions out at $50,000/yr tops for any position. If candidates don't like it, look elsewhere.
