Jenkins gives Gaspar top marks in Supervisor debate

Logan Jenkins in the U-T:
I think it's fair to say that Encinitas' first elected mayor, a businesswoman and super-mom, "won" the debate on style points. Poway Mayor Steve Vaus, a great Gaspar fan, sure thought so, but so did a realtor who said she was still voting for Abed on policy grounds.

Gaspar possesses incredible poise on stage (she worked in TV in Arizona) and a folksy (but not silly) ability to connect government with the daily lives of people. It's a rare gift, smart, self-effacing and funny.

  1. Vote for Roberts. He's not perfect, far from it. But he's a great deal better than Barbie, as any Encinitan can attest. Don't let her get the rein on anything at the county level.

  2. GASpar is the developer's dream girl and they pull her puppet strings. Speak, Barbie, speak!

  3. Jenkins isn't the brightest bulb in the package and Gaspar can't even get the flowers watered in the road medians on town. As for Roberts, why he's gotten a pass for his indiscretions against staff is unexplained. Where was Gloria Allred, Lorena and Marco calling for his resignation ie Filner What promises did Roberts make to the Democratic machine for their silence?? That's the question that Jenkins should be asking.

    1. LGBT pass on prosecution from Dumanis - the fix is in. The settlement given to the staff should have come from Robert's paycheck. And the tryst with the chauffeur - driving Mr. Daisy - crazy, that is.

    2. Dumanis is the worst DA since Ed Miller. She has allowed, drivers to murder others and walk away. The pizza delivery driver in Leucadia and the drunk ,stoned guy in RSF. Killing or maiming at will with no repercussions. Those were the high profile "accidents", although if you drive at 85 mph on the 101 how is it an accident??
      Dumanis must go.

    3. She keeps getting reelected in spite of her cronyism..

  4. Gaspar for Supervisor. She will do better at representing Encinitas than any of the other candidates for that office. Also we get another fresh face on the Council, can't be worse than the ones that are leaving.

  5. Gaspar is lame beyond belief. A huge embarrassment as mayor of Encinitas and would be only more so as county supervisor.

The upcoming races in June and November could nix Princess Narcissus from Encinitas and county politics. That would be a good thing.

  6. The other two r worse.... I'm voting for her.

  7. I'm voting Gaspar to get her out of Encinitas local Gov.

  8. No it's not. She will be good for Encinitas at the county.

    1. She hasn't done much when directly within the city structure; it's a reach to think things will be different at the county level.

    2. For that matter, who has done anything?

We have a huge regional park that Encinitas tax base pays all the costs and maintainance.

All the other projects are stalled and other City's are way further ahead.

      1. Quiet Zones. this was a project ten years ago. Now Oceanside ( Ha) is way further ahead than Encinitas in addressing the issue.

Vina was a complete waste of his time here. The biggest mistake Gaspar and Barth made.

I hope Brust has the smarts and vision to stear this fine coastal city out of the past crappy decision based staff sucking attitude its had over the last 20 years.

    3. I wouldn't put a lot of trust in Brust. She comes across as very weak and scattered.

    4. Yea, she hasn't done much yet. The proverbial "honeymoon" period is waning for her job performance evaluations.

  9. Ready, begin.

The most incorrect and offensive thing in this editorial is that he calls her "funny."

  10. I find the term "super-mom" to be quite hilarious. As if that is a requirement or an asset in running for political office.

I would bet that Jenkins was referring to Barbie's style of dress (tight fitting short skirts and dresses)accompanied by her high heels rather than her debate style. It's a guy thing for sure.

  11. Maybe Jenkins can teach the mayor of Encinitas how to properly place her left arm while reciting the pledge of allegiance.

For whatever reason, the mayor chooses to place her left arm resting on her back side. Is she secretly denouncing our flag by this gesture? In any case, her left arm stance is WRONG.

    Here is the proper way:
"The military salute is rendered by men and women in uniform (and may also include boys and girls in the uniform of Scouts, CAPS, ROTC, and others). Those not in uniform salute the flag by standing at attention, tall and straight with the left arm at the side, and placing the right hand over the heart. Men who are wearing a hat should remove the hat with their right hand and hold it over their shoulder. The right HAND, not the hat, should rest over the heart."

  12. Way to much time on your hands 10:11. I like Gaspar and think she is going a good job. and I voted for Kranz and Shaffer. (my mistake).

  13. Barbie can't even get that right. Not surprised.

  14. Gaspar does turn on the old geezers. Jenkins is getting his last rush of fading hormones before going dark.

  15. All the personal comments detract from the main issue with Gaspar. She is deeply tied to developers who fund and advise her. Whether she wins this office or not, they have decided they get something from funding her campaigns. I expect her to run for higher office. Her moderate Republican stance is very attractive to her party, and the developers who fund and advise her.

    1. Is that why the Republican party DID NOT endorse her for the Board of Supervisors seat????

    2. If Gaspar fails at the Supervisorial level and cannot remain at the local level, she loses political momentum. Look at $tock$ - he had aspirations for higher office, but stalled too long at the local level, exposing his obnoxious personality and caustic style. He couldn't run for the PTA now. Timing and support are crucial - Gaspar is taking a gamble moving too fast for the jump at the next level. Cue the Mario Bros. music when you get wacked......

  16. SD MayorFalconer and the Lincoln Club supported her for some unknown reason.

The county repugnicans [sic, very sick] went for Abed who was one of those protesters last year that tried to stop the busses carrying those poor Honduran mothers and their young children t a place where they could be safe. What a guy and what a gift to the dems.

Seeing our princess attacking Roberts was an abysmal choice but it is all hers, except, of course, everything that came out of her pie hole was scripted from her handlers as it has always been since $sssss$ put her in office as his seat filler.

We may finally be rid of her this year. No way can she garner more mayoral votes than Catherine so shew will be toast. Yea.

    1. The handlers have Ga$par destined for higher office; she can portray confidence on stage, even when she has little to nothing to say. Roberts' scandal would have been certain political doom decades before, but now voters seem numb to corruption. Abed is no peach, but is probably the one to go for. Maybe "None of the above" is still an option....
