Bike Wars

Encinitas Votes:
Several people have messaged me and say they don't want to post about bikes as they feel they will get slammed by 3 people, who I shall not mention. So, would it be possible to let the bike story go for a while. We all know how the ones that post think and feel. We also know at least 2 of our council members made it public to these people that they were all for whatever it is they want. Or at least that is what I was messaged, and what one person who did post said. So, I think we all know what is going on, and much more at this time is not needed. Perhaps you can talk about other things except bikes? For example, mass transit for all? I have posted several things in the last few days that are controversial in other cities, but people have either ignored, or are too engrossed with their own issues to pay much attention. I have no idea which is. I just know that when I get 3 messages saying some are intimidated it is my job as moderator to ask you to please let the bike issue go, unless there is new information. Thank you for helping keep this site up and vibrant.
We can talk about it here.

  1. How lame is that?

So three people out of over 600 sent private messages saying they don’t want to comment on a subject because they are afraid of what others might say in response. Not complaining about what anyone actually did say—but what they may say in an imagined future, maybe. And the mod’s response: attempt to ban the subject for everyone. Are you F-ing kidding? Is this a joke?

How about telling the three who don’t want to comment that they are not required to comment,. But if they do comment, they should expect a debate that includes others who disagree, and that if anyone crosses a line into personal attacks, they will be dealt with.

This is a weak moderator in over her head. She cannot separate her own personal feelings about issues from her duties as an objective host. Also, the fishing for compliments and melodramatic “I need a break” posts need to stop.

Turn it over to Glen, please.

So bike people, don't be afraid. Heck, you ride in front of my truck all the time when on the road so you are afraid to write a paragraph?

    3. You need to clue in, 8:01. The EV post "bullies" ARE the bike people, D-bags like that Serge blowhard, who lives a routine, predictable lifestyle that accommodates bicycle transportation for much of his getting around.

Most people, particularly those with kids, live lives of impetuous, ad hoc randomness -- not all the time, but during free, discretionary time. Take the child to visit a friend here or there, shop for groceries or a meal to go, a drop off or visit to the beach, etc. Some of these trips might be done by bicycle, but most are limited by distance, the nature of the destination or the stuff you have to drag along, all of which necessitate a car.

Serge gets it, I'm sure, but he's one of those self-important, highly opinionated wind bags that appreciates only his own challenges. Its easy for him to characterize solo trips in a car as unsustainable, an opinion of fact offered in a vacuum and unaffected by a myriad of other mitigating factors.

    4. Right you are, 8:01. Global Warming is just another big government jobs program based on fear mongering and our President sees right through it. It's always a good idea not be wasteful, to conserve resources, to recycle whenever possible. But to push that envelope into a world wide panic as if man could cause Global Warming (or even cow farts could) is ridiculous.

Why don't you have a post about the TRO that the Cardiff group just received against the Cardiff School District?

  4. Lorri is a crazy insecure moderator. She asks people 3-4 times if she should keep the page public or private. Despite majority (95%)wanting it to be private, she made it public anyways. She constantly contradicts what she says. She seeks approval and is thin skinned.

  5. Hello Everyone,

As many of you have seen, major construction is underway at the Cardiff School campus. Most of the original buildings have been demolished, mature trees have been cut down, and significant grading has taken place. As a reminder, all of this work is supposed to be part of "Phase 1" of the project which avoids further violations of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Agreement that protects George Berkich Park in perpetuity. In spite of this, the District had Phase 1 plans to create a stormwater detention basin and other destructive work inside the boundary of George Berkich Park.

On July 24, representative of SAVE THE PARK, BUILD THE SCHOOL (STPBTS) appeared in California Superior Court to request a temporary restraining order (TRO) be issued to prevent irreversible damage from taking place at Berkich Park. In a significant win for STPBTS Judge Earl Maas issued this TRO. Language from the TRO clearly states that George Berkich Park is not to be touched until further notice:

“IT IS ORDERED” that Defendant Cardiff School District … be restrained and enjoined from engaging in, committing, or performing, directly or indirectly, by any means whatsoever, the following acts:
Performing or causing to be performed any further construction activities for the Cardiff School Modernization and Reconstruction Project within the existing 6(f)(3) boundary … commonly known as George Berkich Park…
This Temporary Restraining Order shall be effective until further order from the Court.”

Our continued success in saving the park depends on generous donations made by those who believe George Berkich Park is important to our community. Please consider adding your support by making a tax deductible donation to our cause: https://www.buildtheschoolsavethepark.com/get-involved/

    Thank you,

  6. This is Lorri Greene. Thank you for the post W.C. or whoever is now running this site. I will post an announcement on E.V. for people to come over here to talk about bikes. An easy solution to what has been a difficult discussion to moderate. Of course you didn't point out how this comment came to be, but no worries. I would love to let Glen moderate but he is never available to do it. Any takers from this group/ Of course you would have to post your name, and it can't be anonymous. When 3 cyclists ( 2 who don't live in Encinitas) met with Jody Hubbard and Kellie Hinze to lobby them, and, according to the persons involved, they both agreed with them that bikes should basically take over vehicle lanes in Encinitas, I guess that is OK with you all. Great because that is what is happening. ECR is allegedly going to get a full lane devoted to bikes, if you believe what people are saying. Regarding bikes, there has been a lot of bullying and shaming on E.V. . I realize that anything goes on EU, so I am happy to make an announcement sending all bike stuff to you. Have a wonderful day.

Just get out of the way!

  7. Lorri is sincere and deeply concerned about the fate of Encinitas. She's the principal moderator of the Facebook group Encinitas Votes. As the creator and moderator, she can conduct the group however she wants. If the great majority of members approve of her moderation, that will reinforce her practice and she will continue.

I suppose it's a good thing to have about 600 people in the group engaged in Encinitas issues. My guess is many more read the posts but are not members, so they cannot comment. As it is, only about 25 people repeatedly comment.

One is a bike guy named Serge. He is a master bullshitter. He must have gotten his PR training from Glen Broom or at least read Broom's book.

Another goes by the name Isolde Triste. The name does not sound real. She/he insists that Blakespear's mother, Tricia Smith, is determined to build high-density housing in her backyard. It is Rossini Canyon property in Cardiff. It is zoned R-3. Does anybody really believe that as sly as Blakespear and her mother are, they are out to rezone to R-30 and build condos or apartments immediately adjacent to their own homes?

Moreover — and here is the rub — what does a group of people doing nothing more than talking among themselves accomplish? There is one sub-group among the members who have actually done something: They took action and apparently stopped the imposition of Cardiff School construction on the adjacent park.

The rest of the people are just mouthing off. Are they going to tilt the 2020 election one way or another? Doubtful. Are they starting a recall of electeds? No. Are they getting a ballot proposition going? No. Are they suing the city over alleged offenses? No.

So, basically, the group that Lorri so lovingly mommies is a bunch of complainers who fall far short of effectiveness. The difference between EV complainers and EU complainers is the EV people have to play by Lorri's rules, as supported by most members. EV posters have free rein to say whatever they want — except for the antisemitic Nazi who occasionally posts ugly screeds.

    ReplyDelete

    1. You mean EU posters have free rein. You were so anxious to school everyone on every subject under the sun, you got confused.

As far as your "rub?" Don't be so sure the 2020 election won't tilt. I saw my first "Re-elect Blakespear" sign the other day on Vulcan. Weirdly early to start, but indicative that someone's nervous.

      Delete
    2. So, 2:14, you closely read 12:27 and the worst error you could find was a typo. Yes, it's EU posters who have free rein. Thank goodness for that.

You've demonstrated that blockheads like you need schooling.

If the 2020 election tilts away from Blakespear, Kranz and Hinze — a fervent hope — it won't be because of EV and EU posters and readers. It will be because the council's policies and actions have alienated enough voters that they and the word of mouth they spread will have awakened the usually sleeping populace.

      Delete
    3. Not the worst I could find, just trying to follow here. No one is claiming EV and EU posters are going to flip the council majority.

Just what exactly is your complaint?? Your logic is a moving target. Do you want them unseated, or are you trolling?

    4. Did you read the post immediately above yours? If you did, you must have missed the "fervent hope" part. If anybody has to explain 12:27's post to you, you really do need schooling!

      Delete
    5. So? What's your point? Who cares whether they want striping on a particular street.

The main point those out of town bicycle fanatics were sent to post about was how we need to get out of our cars and change our "modes" and all manner of scenarios in a big brother attempt to get those who MUST use cars to instead join a handful of recreational cyclists in taking over our roads.

      Got it now?

      Delete
    6. The point is the restriping project is what they really, really want. It makes no sense to send people to post who are opposed to that project.

If you think the main point being made by those out of town bicycle fanatics is people need to get out their cars, one of us has a serious reading comprehension problem. By my reading their main point is they just want to keep riding safely and without harassment mostly up and down 101.

      Delete
    7. Come now 5:46, you know better. The three sent by Blakespear have posted about a lot more than just Cardiff restriping and their idea of what constitutes 101 safety over the past 6 months.

You're ignoring months of hammering on EV about how we all need to get our of our cars and yes - that is their main point. If you're not aware of their relentless arguing then you have some serious reading ahead of you if you want to be fully informed.

Joining them in trying to make Blakespear out to be doing the right thing is not going to convince anyone.

  9. Are some of you members of Encinitas Votes? Cause I am and I am sure hearing it very differently here than what I read on Encinitas Votes. What I get is that there is a huge bike lobby, who lobbies the Council and Traffic Commission to get what they want. And they want a hell of a lot more than just safty and riding without harrassment on 101. Don't you remember when EU shared a post from EV by Jeremy Blakespear. The Council reads that site, and since names are posted, it is sometimes a risk to have your name associated with the wrong group. Queen Catherine is pro bike, therefore the whole council has to be pro bike. Not sure how Kranz gets around on a bike, but that's a story for another day. So she has a couple of council members meet with the 3 main people and out of it comes all sorts of requests or demands. This town is being run by a few people at the expense of a lot of citizens. That's the STORY if anyone cares to check in to it. Of course, it's easier to sit around posting anonymously and trashing the moderator of EV. Hell, at least she's at city council meetings, volunteers, does CPRA requests, and presents the information to the City Council. They don't like her. So you are all adding to the perception that Catherine is right. What a bunch of dung.

  10. To all ratepayers in the San Dieguito Water District (SDWD):
The city manager and the Council and Mayor are pulling a fast on the water users. On the SDWD agenda for next week on the consent calendar item 8I is a ploy called reorganizing the water district which shifts management titles, changes titles, and adds the city's waste water divisions to the independent SDWD to make a city utilities department. Why should the SDWD be combined with an inept city department. No to the city manager and her flunky council/mayor on this idea.

    1. Exactly. It's completely ineffective because even though the councilmembers may listen, they don't change their minds based on what citizens say. The EV people are the worst - no memory. The latest is that they say EU needs to come up with a candidate to defeat the incumbents. Are they planning to do the same?

    2. 5:24 trying to create confusion, doing a terrible job. The attorney Marco Gonzalez is endorsing his special brand of density bonus. His project (client) on Santa Fe Drive received many waivers from the required code. Lot size was chopped up into small pieces. The property is zoned R-8 (8 houses per acre. Marco wanted 14 lots. To do this the required lot size of 5,400 square feet for each house lot was reduced to about half that size.
Net Lot Area: 5,400 s.f. required by code
Marco Gonzalez got the developer the following lot sizes:
    2,280 sq.ft.
    2,181 sq.ft.
    2,445 sq.ft.
    2,245 sq.ft.

    2,749 sq.ft.
    2,768 sq.ft.
    3,174 sq.ft.
    2,262 sq.ft.
    2,309 sq.ft.
    3,520 sq.ft.
That is 14 waivers in substandard lot sizes.
Another 14 waivers in substandard lot width.
Another 14 waivers in substandard lot depth.
Another 14 waivers in substandard front yard setbacks.
Front yard setback should be 25 feet. Waivers given - 5 lots had only 1 foot front yard setback. 2 lots had only 2 feet front yard setback. Two lots had 3 feet front yard setback. One lot had a 4 feet front yard setback. 2 lots had a 5 feet front yard setback. Two lots left - one with 6 feet front yard setback, one with 11 feet setback.
There are also waivers for side yard setbacks and back yard setbacks. Marco Gonzalez really helped the developer get approval for the crowding of houses.
