Encinitas Votes has long been the primary Facebook site related to Encinitas politics. Launched by longtime resident Dr. Lorri Greene and moderated by Greene and other volunteers, it’s a spirited board where all sides can be heard.
This election cycle, a new Facebook site called Encinitas Now has popped up. It’s unclear who is behind the site, but it appears to be paying Facebook to buy prominent placement. And it’s not a spirited board where all sides can be heard. The site is decidedly in support of Mayor Blakespear and her merry band of incumbents, and people with opposing views claim to be regularly censored for violating dubious rules.
In news we’re sure is totally unrelated, developer attorney Marco Gonzalez recently started a PAC to collect developer money to support the council incumbents.
Censorship and money. In this election, the two go merrily hand in hand. The residents shall be silenced and the BIA backed politicians and lawyers will happily go to the bank at the expense of the endless homeless invading our city and the tax paying residents who thought they found paradise when they purchased their homes.

EV has always been an open group. The other Facebook groups Lorri Greene complains about have never said they are open to all viewpoints. They have heavy moderation and that is their right. There are groups in the incumbent camp and other groups supporting Thunder, and the other challengers. Lorri Greene banning people, whom she "thinks" are associated with a particular Facebook group seems inconsistent with her mission to allow open discussion. It is true that Marco is disruptive in his posts, but so are others. Mike Verdu is not disruptive. Hopefully Lorri will clearly state what the criteria is for being censored, as it seems arbitrary to limit it to her thinking the person is associated with a particular Facebook group, and not all the other similar groups.

DeleteThe rumor has been out there for sometime that the developers were planning on shifting money directly and indirectly into Mayor Blakespear campaign and those of her PAC's. One of my neighbors who is a developer was told to donation money to Blakespear or one of her PAC's. He told them No. I wish the other developers would say the same. Now, there are tons of sketchy drug addicts doing gross things in our parks and near our beaches, and causing major health issues by pooping on walkways and all over the place including front yards and the beach sand. Plus they leave needle to be stepped on and washed out into the ocean. Rape and serious beatings is common upon the homeless.

Denser housing close to jobs is better for the environment and the climate. Extending sprawl puts people at risk of fires, forces them to commute further and pollute more, and destroys our native chaparral habitat.
