One thing for certain, the Dunce's homeless building program is going strong! It confirmed, San Diego is now sending it's homeless to Encinitas since we are a Welcoming City that is willing to build regional homeless shelters next to million dollar homes to help with our diversity.

ReplyDeleteBy the way, the railroad has been here for well over 100 years. About 120 to 80 years ago, It used to be a functional transportation option for getting across the country. Not so much anymore. Extremely low ridership.
Now everyone either flies and drives and if the trip is short enough they ride an e-bike or walk. All pretty much faster than taking the slow coaster.

DeleteCity ought to issue 100 transferable permits for short term rentals. Want to open an Airbnb? Fine, then go make offers to people holding the permits to buy theirs from them. Let the permit price be set by the free market. And let the city take 10% of the sale price every time a permit is sold and out that money into enforcement. My guess is that permits will get very expensive and drive up the short term rents people have to charge to make the numbers work. This will limit demand and increase vacancy. Eventually, the market will find an equilibrium between permit price and rent price. And most of the rental property for annual lease will be protected.

It just isn’t.
Car traffic and commute times around San Diego have been getting worse since the 60s, and will continue to do so.
At some point when commutes are horrific enough, that slow train is going to start looking pretty damn fast, and employers are going to notice that they are more competitive in attracting talent if they put the office right near a Coaster station.
To eliminate rail service in hopes that car traffic will somehow magically stop getting worse is beyond dumb.

Both are valid, but the proportion of the two should be actively managed by the city.
