City of Surfing Madonna emulates City of Angels

Today's LA Times:
The [sales tax] proposal drew a critical response from Jack Humphreville, a neighborhood council member who campaigned successfully against the city's sales tax hike last year. Humphreville said that in recent years, money that should have gone to repairs went instead to "over-the-top compensation" for city workers.

The city's elected officials "were grossly negligent over the last two decades in maintaining our infrastructure," he said.

  1. Substitute COE for COAngels ... Same story.
It's the age of the outrageous salary and pension for govt workers.

  2. Just like Encinitas. It is not a tax hike to pay for road maintenance it is a tax hike to pay for pension increases. The money set aside for things like parks, quiet zones and roads got given away to pensions. How hard should each encinitas private citizen work to pay for the pensions and health benefits of Muir, Stocks, Barth and Shaffer?

  3. I am tired of paying for these people who get into government, knowing that they will forever have a nice big pension and keep taking the money from US the taxpayers. Enough is enough. I want my money back. No more taxes to line their greedy little pockets.

  4. Another big fat lie on the "sales" tax. LA had the transaction and use tax (feloniously called a sales tax) on the ballot last year. The tax was defeated. Politicians still lying to the voters that it will be the visitors that will pay the tax. Not true. Only LA residents.

    1. Technically, Vina got his playbook from Sacramento and Stockton.

But it's not all that different than the LA playbook.

    1. I would bet that number is low for the county. Are they cutting back the new chiefs salary?

    2. As was documented on this blog in August 2014, Muir's pension is $175,682.40 per year. Yet, like many other "facts," it's often misstated by people who post here. Round up and state it as $176,000.

    3. Make that August 2013.

  9. Has anyone noticed how Muir's language sounds like he is gearing up to run? I've heard he's going stab Gaspar in the back. Too bad Gaspar's camp has been taking advice from him.

    1. It would make more sense for Muir to run for Mayor from the safe seat. Too bad, I'd love to get rid of Gaspar...

    2. Muir and Gaspar have been pandering for months.

  10. The mayor's job is nothing more than to cut more ribbons during ceremonies and do an agenda for meetings. Other than that, the position is on the same level as the council members. It's just a glorified title.

    1. Yes it is , but Lisa Shaffer wants to give the mayor extra pay . Extra pay to sign a few documents, cut ribbons , etc . It's horseshit....
