12/9/15 City Council meeting open thread

The current city council has continued prior councils' practice of not providing written summary minutes of council discussion, but only "action minutes" which state the outcomes. Encinitas Undercover will provide a forum for observers to record what occurs at each council meeting.

Please use the comments to record your observations.

  1. Manjeet just said at 6:51 that a half hour of staff time costs $50.

That's some high-priced talent we have!

    1. That's $104,000 a year without benefits. Yes, the council doesn't want them to waste their time on appeals when staff can coerce to drop appeals with the phony attorney Blakespear's mediation ordinance. Gaspar voted for it also.

    2. Might need to check your math- $50 per half hour is $100 per hour or in the neighborhood of $200,000 per year.

    3. 7:25 PM had a council moment of Pacific View flashback. Thanks for the correction. That Manjeet is right on top of things.

    4. Upon further reflection, I believe that Sabine's suggestion that staff has to use application processing time to justify a $50 fee for a $750 cost mediation service is erroneous.

Where's the case law that says government can't recoup a small percentage of direct costs in user fees?

      Anyone? Anyone? Sabine? Sabine?

    5. Blakespear is still angry about losing her Coral Tree Farm appeal. She thinks that if a mandatory mediation requirement had been in place it would have forced the neighbors to drop the appeal against the Coral Tree Farm and its code violations. The urban farm ordinance is an end run to turn her appeal loss into a win.

    6. I'm all for use taxes.

Why should the rest of us pay for your application processing?

  2. Blakespear is a fake attorney?

  3. Blakespear is really an attorney 8:03, unless of course you were being sarcastic. In fact she did our family Trust about a year ago. Reasonably priced and great service. I believe Trusts and Wills are her specialty, so I am sure she cannot be well versed on all law topics. However, she is licensed to practice law in the State of California.

    1. 7:25 said Blakespear is a "phony attorney." Sounds as if 8:03 asked if 7:25 accused Blakespear of not really being an attorney.

    2. Blakespear is an attorney just like Sabine is an attorney.
