Late night driver driving away from downtown 101 inexplicably hits trees, rolls over

CBS 8:
Sheriff's deputies say the driver was heading north on Coast Highway 101 shortly after midnight when he hit two small trees on the side of the road.

The collision caused the truck to rollover on its roof.

At this time, it's unclear what caused the accident or whether alcohol was involved.

  2. Roundabouts would have gotten this drunk off the road sooner.

  3. Anything that takes out trees and keeps Leucadia crappy has to be applauded.....

  4. I'm sure there was a crowd of people protesting the removal of the "beloved" and "historic" upside-down truck.

There will be a lawsuit, because the truck was removed without an EIR, and the removal decision was made without proper notice or public input.

    2. Sadly, Santa failed to deliver a sense of humor for 5:42 again this year.

Try to be good this year.

  5. Well that was fun. Having a gut feeling the public will never hear another word about this incident, I just called the Encinitas Sheriff's station to find out if or not the driver was drunk that had this wreck taking out a tree on N 101. I was forwarded to another operator, but only had to wait through 5 min. of an English; Spanish and loud Hearing Impaired bleeps before the operator answered. (Oh what I do for humanity). I asked the lady who answered if or not the man was drunk. She said it took usually a week before that information was released. I asked her if I could call her back later and she said I would have to speak to the Traffic Deputy at that point in time. Swell. I'll keep everyone posted.

  6. 8:25am. The trouble with your reasoning is that there is only one planned roundabout south of Leucadia Blvd. and 5 to 6, all in the northern portion because, as it was related directly to me when I asked the top promoters of this stupid idea, was that it was more convenient to locate all but one of them north of Leucadia Blvd.

If the purpose was to even out traffic flow along the whole 2.7 mile corridor, what should convenience have to do with any of their placements? The reality is that property owners adjacent to these planned roundabouts stand to profit directly being next to these disasters in the making through the increased zoning that comes with each and every one of these roundabouts.

This whole plan for roundabouts was compromised from the beginning by the profit motives that come with each and every one of them being located where they are.

At this point in time, we may be stuck with them but we will all sure know who to blame when the traffic flow turns out not be all that these promoters said it will be. I certainly hope those few businesses that pushed this through will breath deeply every freaking day as the cars crawl along the whole way in front of them.

    1. Oh, we are not "stuck with them" unless you follow Shaffer's done-deal mentality. Ground's not broken yet, the plan could be revisited at any time. Except then all the promised lucrative construction contracts wouldn't be fulfilled.

  7. 5:11, take a tip from 5:46 and don't be such a worry wart. BTW, breathing better is what eliminating needless idling is all about. But go ahead and curse people's health if that's what makes you happy.

    1. 5:46 here - not unconcerned, but find it nothing short of idiotic and sheeplike to go along without a major protest. You just need to pick your time, place, and join others who are organized.

    2. Major protest, you say?

Please tell me you plan to bike-lock your neck to a fire hydrant or something.

      "What do we want?"

      "Crap."

      "When do we want it?"

      "Now."
