3/23/16 City Council meeting open thread

The current city council has continued prior councils' practice of not providing written summary minutes of council discussion, but only "action minutes" which state the outcomes. Encinitas Undercover will provide a forum for observers to record what occurs at each council meeting.

Please use the comments to record your observations.

  1. Kranz wants complete streets. He starting with Eolus?? Or is that, just like an HEU up zoning found near his house on one of the maps, "never going to happen?"

  2. Aww poor mike paeske's dream where he "envisioned a hillside of condos" at strawberry fields during an ill-fated ERAC meeting, gone - poof! - in one Caltrans land grab. Paeske will no doubt have a cow over the 11 acres of open space left in perpetuity.

  3. Army corps of engineer expert can't keep the smirk off her face as Pruim backs up her scheme. Calls a scientist's presentation personal opinion. Doesn't fit with the firegone conclusion.

  4. Ha how do you know when a city worker is lying?

  5. Muir is as dumb as he looks. I can not believe he made the statement that "people drive cars". Right, Muir, when did you discover this?

GASpar, do us all a favor and blink every now and then. Can you say scary?

  6. Is your street falling apart? Like the new potholes that keep popping up overnight? Kranz, Muir, Gaspar, and Blakespear approved spending $1.2 million of your taxpayer money on artificial turf for one field at Leo Mullen sports park across from the Target. Shaffer voted no.

    1. Yes the pot holes on my street are 4 and 6 inches deep. These idiots voted to spend $10.5 M on a old school full of asbestos and lead paint. Fools, idiots.

Fix the FUCKING streets you morons.

    1. Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
      With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

    2. 9:03- I wonder if she would recite those words if she was being ass raped by Mohamed. Oh wait, it's emergency sex so that makes it ok....

Yes, she would. Or O'Mally, Goldberg, Xiangse, Wisnewski, Nishu, Gomez, Kovalev--any hypothetical member of the immigrant groups we've wrongly maligned through the years through xenophobia and ignorance.

    4. 3:16- I have no respect for a "religion " that condones raping 9 year old children or kicking to death puppies because a dog is seen as "unclean". Obviously you have your head so deeply up your ass your eyes are smeared with shit and you are unable to see the truth...

    5. What you are doing is the equivalent of using the actions and beliefs of Warren Jeffs' FLDS sect to draw conclusions about Christianity as a whole.

It's a silly and stupid game for small minds.

  8. Best part was when Deane lobbied successfully for $40K on project oversight by a second consultant and no one on council did the quick math that the dude will cost US $125 per hour. Mind you, the turf vendor provides oversight, too.

Now how much you wanna bet Mr. 125 will be found wandering the site with a Starbucks in each hand, inspecting as little as possible? I think we should all be out there documenting.

    That's our money. Shameful.

  9. $40 to $50 grand for an inspector to inspect the inspector!

That comes to a grand a day for the 50 day projected time period?

If it runs over the 50 day guesstimate, then what? More of the thousand bucks a day?

If the installers can't be trusted, why are they being hired in the first place?

Why can''t our own engineering dept. lend a hand with this daily inspection and keep in close touch with the one day a week inspector the installer provides?

How is this waste continued to be allowed?

Will somebody on the council please step up and show some cajones.

Making an objection and/or questioning an expenditure means little if you don't stand up for it.

We have staff that are paid very well that could serve us more than sitting on their behinds and replace the need for a $1,000/day outside hire.

  10. The council incumbents are paying any price for the turf project to buy those votes for the November election. The incumbents are paying taxpayer money of $600 each for the 2000 votes. It's only money and not theirs. Any other city council would be charged with vote buying. Call turf replacement to make it smell good. Blakespear, Gaspar, Muir, and Kranz voted out!

  11. As of this week, we are hiring a $1,000/day inspector to inspect the inspector of the 1.3 million dollar turf installer who only shows up one day a week.

What happens when the 50 day project runs long? Duh.

Why can't our own engineering dept. do their jobs and spend a few minutes a day keeping close tabs on the four days a week that the turf company inspector will not be on site? He is already paid for. So are our engineers. Something smells.

  12. Dump Muir - how this dead-weight ever was elected in the first place is astounding. Gaspar is finished with the futile Supervisorial blunder and Shaffer 'retires'. Kranz needs to go also, as he can't be trusted to represent the collective interests.

  13. Gaspar-drain the swamp-whacking alligators... Here's one you'll understand, while the city whacks alligators-fills in potholes, the should be draining the swamp- repaving the streets.

    What an idiot!!!

    2. Swamps and alligators?! - these kindergarten analogies are the apex of her political acumen. It is astounding that she has gotten as far as she has - she is clueless and requires programming from her special interest handlers. The sooner she disappears from the political scene, the better! Maybe an alligator will eat her.

So run for council if these are your only competitors. Put your butt on the line so everyone here can sing your praises.

  14. The city has leased the old Cardiff fire station but not before spending $15,300 to clean out the building and repair water damage caused by Encinitas firefighters. Shouldn't these repair costs come out the the fire fighters budget?? Where is our $250K fire chief?? Why is he allowing the fire fighters to damage city property??

The city also spend $6000 to haul the old emergency electrical generator to the county to be sold at auction. How much did the city earn from this auction??

    2. $9000 for cleaning, $6300 for removing generator. Total $15300.

    3. So let me see if I understand this.... $6300 to connect a generator to a pick up truck and haul it to the county maintenance yard....How can I get that gig?? Imagine hauling two items per month of the city, I could hang out at the beach all day like the life guards.....

Which would be what? The first day this year you went to the beach?

  15. Anyone interested in either the Housing issue or the Rail Trail should be at the March 30th meeting of the City Council. The meeting was not originally scheduled so thought I would pass it on.
