Blakespear stands by CalPERS' fake numbers on pension liability despite overwhelming expert consensus

Del Mar Times:
The city has an unfunded pension liability of close to $40 million, but over the last three years has allocated five percent of annual savings toward the unfunded pension liability, which equates to about $1 million, Blakespear said.
Independent analysts at Stanford found Encinitas' unfunded pension liability to be $154 million.

  1. Whatever the number is, we will be paying for it one way AND another.

  2. What accounts for the $114 million gap between the two figures?

  3. We all have 'HIs Lowness' to thank and will for the foreseeable future.

    It is difficult to imagine $ssss$ was ever given such latitude to screw over our community. An obliging council, or rather a bullied council, shares the guilt.

    Bankruptcy. a la Stockton and others may be avoided, or not. When we have sycophants sucking the city dry, it does not look hopeful.

  4. Agreed... $ssss$ should be run out of town.

    He was by far the worst cancer this town has experienced.

    He is the grandfather of the finacial pain the city is in and why it can not buy more open space of fix up places like pacific view.

    But first, the city needs to complete the streetscape. that is the most important thing the city could do in the next 50 years.

    2. 10:36 if Leucadia and streetscape were important to The City, trenching the tracks from LA Costa to Bull Taco would be made part of the plan. That would be the most important spend for the next 50 years (excluding the pension bailout, of course).

  5. the second worse council member was that crazy Cameron.

    Man that women is wacked. See her talk now seems like sees retarded.

    She doesn't can't even understand how to drive a roundabout or understand the safety statistics behind the roundabouts.

    They are proven safety and traffic efficiency measures. 5 in birdrock prior PCH. One functioning very well at old PCH at Carlsbad Blvd. and State Street, more to come in south Oside, San Diego and North.

    Bottom line is Crazy Cameron has not common sense. She is bad for the mobility in Encinitas.

    3. Only one roundabout on Highway 101 in Carlsbad, at State St., NOT five. And that one roundabout has an alternative bike/ped lane in the railtrail corridor SEPARATED from the highway, so all bicyclists are not forced to funnel through a one lane roundabout with all motorists.

      No roundabouts should be built on 101, through Leucadia, at three way intersections, with no throughway cross-streets, without building an accompanying, separated bike/ped lane.

      The current EIR is about more business opportunities, real estate interests, not about what residents and local commuters want or need. Those few business concerns which would benefit disproportionately should have to pay property tax assessments in accordance to the value they will be receiving at taxpayer expense.

      New amount estimated to complete Leucadia 101 Streetscape = $28 Million plus. There should be a plan that does not include the roundabouts, but does include improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians, along the RR right of way.

      The current plan recommends cutting through the median at numerous places, which would further decimate our beloved canopy.

      Anytime name calling cyberbully starts picking on others, usually women, here, that demonstrates his lack of ability to consider the facts and to share opinions based on those facts. Instead, this troll gets off on attacking and attempting to demean others under cover of cowardice.

  7. The ONLY way there will be pension reform in this town is by voter initiative. Every council will gloss over the issue and avoid addressing it. The town budget will be prioritized as a retirement account for retired city workers - and the pension liabilities will only intensify with time.

  9. Mayor Blakespear in an interview to promote her agenda:

    Here are some ideas that anyone can follow and that I have personally committed to:
    1.Commit to lobbying and influencing the elected officials above us, particularly our congressperson;
    2.Symbolically build social movements by passing resolutions and giving air time to important values, possible topics include sanctuary cities, climate change, transgender rights or welcoming communities;
    3.Champion the important social programs in our community, those serving the homeless, seniors, under-privileged, or immigrants. Plan events with nonprofits that protect these groups and contact the media so the group and the message ends up in the paper;
    4.Use our own platforms – Facebook, Twitter, email newsletters, and speaking opportunities to focus attention on the causes and issues that matter.
    5.Consider using a free smartphone app called “5 Calls,” an easy way to make a difference in only a few minutes each day. We choose our priority; it gives the user the info about who to call and a script, and it’s updated daily. It’s available for download at 5calls.org.

    As much as you sound like slimy Mikey, he at least can write some what intelligibly. You must be slimy $ssss$, continuing your bullying even to this day. What a disgraceful being you are to pick on a woman who has has given back more than you ever could for our community. It is your nature, as past history has shown all too often.

    Your envy is showing for a citizen who has earned more respect from this community. than you ever will.

    Crazy Cameron is bad for quality of life for existing residents and property values for Leucadia and Encinitas.

  14. Cut the pensions - $250,000/year for life is unsustainable and grossly excessive for the type of jobs these are. These are civil pencil pushers. $50,000 max for any position in the city is more like it.

    The bottom line is this, if you are self employed you will work the rest of your life. There is no social security for you. Pensions are underfunded and those expecting to receive a pension will not. Enjoy, it's will be a miserable future for you.

  17. And in other news -
    Seattle city council, which already provides $250,000 from their city's general fund for helping illegals, may vote to add an additional $1,000,000 to provide legal aid so illegals won't get deported. Encinitas joined the welcoming city group last year. Seattle became a welcoming city in January 2017.

    From an article -
    There is little doubt that Seattle Councilmembers will pass the plan. The council voted in January to adopt a “welcoming cities” resolution that would include a provision to create a legal-defense fund. Seattle is already spending $250,000 to provide illegal immigrants and refugees help in navigating life under the new laws, specifically in the school system. King County is contemplating setting aside an additional $750,000 to help illegal immigrants learn about their rights, fight deportation, and become citizens.

    1. Good.

      Illegal immigrants have cleaned our houses, and mowed our lawns for years. They have also prepared your food and cleaned your dishes if you've gone out to eat. They have picked your produce, and made your hotel beds.

      In short, they work hard for little pay at jobs Americans won't do. They have contributed to the economy and improved the standard of living for Americans generally.

      We owe them. It's time we demonstrated our appreciation by funding the legal defense they deserve.

      Delete
    2. All the progressives Seattle are going to have sore shoulders patting themselves on the back after passing this resolution, but I can't wait to see them all turn on each other when refugee shelters are proposed for their pricey neighborhoods. They love symbolic gestures of compassion (using tax money) but become fascist NIMBYs when it impacts them directly.

  18. The one undeniable fact is that we are all immigrants, with the exception of native americans.

    How easy it appears to be for some to choose to forget that. The lack of humanity toward your fellow man, is as un-American as it comes. Our nation was founded on the precept of welcoming all the huddled masses seeking a better life.

    As long as we were the shining light and the beacon of hope for the world, it hurts to realize that that is past history now.

    When half of the eligible voters don't even bother, we get the fascist state that we have for the time being.

    When these right wing cretins wave our flag, they are disgracing our nation and showing their ignorant arrogance or arrogant ignorance.

    Anyone who thinks fascist is going too far, needs to do a little reading on the history of fascism. The parallels are strikingly similar and familiar. Read up on the topic and you too won't be able to miss the sameness of the current bloviator. His past admiration for Mussolini now makes some sort of sense.

    1. The Native Americans migrated here too, only they got here first. There was no immigration check at the border. However, they did succeed in exterminating some native species whose rights of existence were blatantly violated. These species were here first and had never seen a human before and had no fear. The native American horse was one example. The horse only came back with the arrival of the Spanish in Mexico in 1519. It's important to keep a proper perspective on things.
