Recreational marijuana subcommittee to meet Wednesday

Del Mar Times:
The Encinitas city council's subcommittee on Prop 64 will meet publicly for the first time April 12 to discuss adult use of marijuana in the city.

Deputy Mayor Tony Kranz and Council member Joe Mosca, who were appointed to the subcommittee in February, will lead the discussion beginning at 4 p.m. at the Council Chambers, 505 South Vulcan Avenue.

Residents will be given time to address public comments. Each speaker will be limited to three minutes, according to the meeting's agenda.

Much more at Voice of San Diego. It's about farming in Encinitas; retail shops have been ruled out.

  1. Probably sell hotter than booze....

  2. I'll bet the Encinitas Anti-Saloon League will embrace this. I am sure those people think it is better to be high than drunk. Again this is an issue that should be put to a vote of the Citizens of Encinitas.

    1. It was already voted on last November. Regardless of these shiny object meetings, those that want to use will continue to use.

  3. In 1996, Harper married his first wife, Joanna.[31] They have two children together, son Charles (born circa 1997) and daughter Harris (born circa 2000) and both really enjoy smoking dope and getting high off sysnthetic marijuana before and after school.[31] Harper and Joanna separated in 2000, and were divorced in 2001.[31]

Harper began dating actress Laura Dern after they met at one of his concerts in fall 2000.[31] Harper and Dern married on December 23, 2005 at their home in Los Angeles.[32] They have two children,[1] son Ellery Walker (born August 2001)[31] and daughter Jaya (born November 2004) each of whom love to get high before and after school.[33]

In October 2010, Harper filed for divorce from Dern, citing irreconcilable differences.[34] They briefly reconciled and attended the 2012 Golden Globe Awards together,[34] but Dern reactivated the divorce by filing a legal response in July 2012.[34] The divorce was finalized in September 2013.[35]

Harper married his third wife, social advocate Jaclyn Matfus, on January 1, 2015.[5] They are currently expecting their first child together who will undoubtedly enjoy getting high from dope at a very young age.[36]

Harper is a skateboarder and helps kids who love to skateboard get exposed to smoking dope at a very young age. Harper supports the fact that here is a strong correlation between skating and dope smoking. Harper and owns a warehouse for his personal skateboarding where he and his friends are constantly smoking dope and skateboarding. Harper co-owns the skateboarding brand Roller Horror with professional skateboarder Mike York so for your kids that like to skateboard, Harper suggests that they check out his brand, listen to his music and start an early addiction of THC and getting high.[37]

    1. Amazing, you copypasta a wiki article and insert bullshit accusations (complete with citation numbers). You are a sick fuck. Your mother should suspend your internet privileges.

    2. Lesson- smoke dope and you can marry actresses, skateboard all day, and have a private skate park. I'm in!

    3. If we're going to embrace dope, I suggest that we allow it in school. Social smoking would ease social barriers and make the school environment more friendly for all young adults.

  4. Life not working out for you, huh?

    So sad.

Maybe if you worked on being a good person, instead of looking for scapegoats to explain why people don't like you, and girls won't talk to you.

    Just a suggestion.

  5. Pass the bong kiddos and don't listen to your parents instead just listen to self-centered lyrics of rock stars, as exemplified above, they are the ones you should be talking advice from but the way honey, how about a little of that your sittin' on...Sex, Drugs and Rock N' Roll...the sooner they get involved the sooner they'll be out of the house making poor life decisions...this is what the industry is all about...helping your kids make poor decisions and being really good debt slaves...after the ruined marriages, custody battles and mounting debt. More rock n' roll for the kids!!

    2. You are avoiding the question you old hippie: how did you deal with your illegal dope smoking with your kids for all of those years? Did you hide your addiction from them? Did you encourage your children to try it? Did you smoke your illegal dope in front of your kids? Did you buy your dope with them in the car or were you always hiding everything from your kids, neighbors and everyone else except your poor wife? Did you ever discuss how many people died getting that illegal dope over the border and into your home? Please tell us more other than you were illegally smoking dope for 50 years.

    3. 2:19 1. We chose not to have kids due to over population. 2. I was never "addicted". The one time I was job hunting I simply quit using. 3. I did not rely on the black market. 4. You sir are a complete moron. There are millions of people like me who have led good productive lives in this fashion.
"Old Hippie"? Are you for real, or just a shill or BOT for big pharma. BTW I am now legally smoking dope unless you are against state rights.
What, pray tell, do you do for a living? Just curious.

    4. No kids????? What is the meaning of your life? What are you doing with your life? Go help some less fortunate people in a less fortunate part of the world. What are you doing here...retired...living in your paid off home...smoking dope all day...get off your ass and go help someone old man, you are a disgrace!

    5. I've been "off my ass" my whole life. Now you sound envious that I achieved, through hard work, an evil payed off house. Please,I'll ask again, I'm curious how a moron such as yourself can support himself. BTW I now spend most of my time growing my own food.

  7. I don't smoke. I tell my kids not to smoke.

But it's none of my business. People trying to impose what works for them onto others nearly always creates more trouble than the thing they are trying to ban.

The people voted. End of story. Live and let live.

  8. Mark Muir brings up a great point, which one of you 'champions of dope' is willing for dope to be grown next door to your home? You just know that high and/or drunk young men are going to be moving swiftly in the night on a mission to steal dope.

Councilman Mark Muir said even those who voted to legalize marijuana probably wouldn’t want a pot farm near their house.

In February, he cast the lone vote against setting up the subcommittee, which will also look at security measures and tax rates.

“I care about public safety and the influence it might have on our youth,” Muir said, adding that it’s uncertain whether the federal government is going to crack down on marijuana.

Like the post apocalyptic violent nightmares that are Colorado and Oregon?

Why would people risk arrest when it's now legal to grow in a home garden?

  9. It is amazing that after 80 years, Reefer Madness still is relied upon as some sort of an authority.

The more lies are spread, the more butts of ridicule are reinforced.

Saving some our greenhouses from developing into housing projects and impacting traffic even more than it is, is a viable and legal option.

These few operations will be secure, as one longtime grower of flowers researched on his own dime, and came before council with his findings. The regulations for growing herb have many security requirements to maintain the few operations that may be permitted, as well they should.

This can be a good thing. It is not a free for all. Our few remaining greenhouse operations should be paid can be preserved by donating a portion of their business to a product that has so many beneficial uses, besides recreational.

The medicinal products have a reduced amount of the psychoactive properties and will not get anyone high. These are closer to hemp, actually are hemp based. The difference is huge and compared to pharma and their endless bad side effects, are so much better and easier on the human body.

The time for Reefer Madness has long passed. The truth is out there.

    1. A long-time grower in Oceanside wanted the city council there to approve agricultural cultivation of pot. Strawberries are the big cash crop, bringing in about $16,000/acre. Pot was estimated at $4.2 million/acre! Which would you grow as a farmer? The question is - when do you reach market saturation? California is already awash in pot plantations and it is only going to get bigger - for the time being anyway.
If Encinitas wants more revenue, get on the bandwagon - it's not going away.

  10. Dear Tony Kranz, I am unable to attend the scheduled 4pm meeting today but wanted to instead voice my opinion here hoping that you and others are completely aware of some of the affects of recreational marijuana use. As an Encinitas resident and father of three boys, I want my voice to be heard loud and clear.

Do any of you remember local San Diego football star and Heisman Trophy winner Rashaan Salaam? Salaam, who won the Heisman Trophy at Colorado in 1994, was plagued by fumbles in the NFL with the Chicago Bears, losing 14 in 31 games. He attributes the fumbles were related to a marijuana addiction. Salaam said that an addiction to marijuana made him withdrawn, caused him to fumble and ended his career.

He was a brave and dedicated individual for warning us about the destructive elements of marijuana addiction.
"I wasn't the kind of person I was (before)," he told ESPN. "I wasn't outgoing like I was. I was just to myself. All I wanted to do was go home and get high. I wasn't a social person. I was just an outcast."

"It probably had me out there lackadaisical instead of being out there 100 percent," he told the cable network in an interview first broadcast Sunday.

"Everybody thinks getting high is cool, you can let it go when you want to let it go," he added. "But it's just as potent as alcohol. It's just as potent as cocaine."

Salaam broke his leg in the third game of the 1997 season, a game in which he committed two costly fumbles. He said the injury increased his addiction.

"When I got hurt, I knew it was a problem because it pretty much consumed all my time," he said. "I wasn't going to practice or anything like that so I pretty much spent my time sitting around getting high, and that's when I knew I had to let it go."

Salaam told ESPN that he informed the Bears of his problem in early 1998 and entered a rehabilitation program. The Bears later cut the former first-round draft choice. He was out of football last season.

Salaam was found dead on December 5, 2016, in a park in Boulder, Colorado. On December 29, it was confirmed that the cause of death was suicide, in a report released by The Boulder County Coroner's Office. Salaam's had THC in his system.

Council member Kranz, being a father of three, I hope that you understand that dope smoking leads to many more problems in our community.

Lastly, if anyone is ever run over or killed by a driver under the influence of marijuana, know that your decision will be involved with this outcome.

    1. Now post an anecdote that shows the opposite. There's use and abuse, just like with everything else. As long as alcohol is legal and popular, stigmatizing cannabis is hypocritical.
