8/26/15 City Council meeting open thread

The current city council has continued prior councils' practice of not providing written summary minutes of council discussion, but only "action minutes" which state the outcomes. Encinitas Undercover will provide a forum for observers to record what occurs at each council meeting.

Please use the comments to record your observations.

  1. Giddy-up.

OK, Let's stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance. Ready...1,2,3 GO!

Nice to see you all here on this Wednesday evening. There is no better place to be!

A big thank you to ____________ for sitting in tonight as our city manager. Welcome!

    Let's roll!!!!!

  2. Big surprise. The Mayor announced there was threat of litigation and the density bonus ordinance item and the BIA's bow lower and kiss settlement retraction item were pulled from the agenda.

    1. Anybody know WHO is threatening litigation? No explanation was given by Gaspar.

Also, the new BIA/Planning Dept. line is that ANY attempt by citizens to reduce density will only result in more Density Bonus applications.

    2. David Meyer wrote a letter threatening litigation, on behalf of his firm. Remember, he's a developer married to Elizabeth Ecke. He spoke a couple of times at the Council Meeting, also.

  3. Lisa Shaffer is giving a talk tomorrow at MiraCosta San Elijo. It is about think globally and act locally. I wish that she would follow her own advice and remember the people who elected her!

  4. Lisa's speech is at the Library manana is in the Community Room, she is speaking about her own personal successes at implementing the City's Climate Change Action Plan that was actually written by out-of-town planners for $12K, the contract was signed and money allocated on 8-19-2009 which is news to Lisa because she admits she never read it.

Diane Langager has oversight on the drivel the strangers who wrote the plan. Comments on the last page of the plan are from Dadla and Judy are priiceless. They suggest, seriously, tripling the price of gasoline to about $12 per gallon. Perhaps Lisa is taking credit for their combined thought? She is besties with them. Never saw anyone with less self-knowledge. A kind of moral labotomy. Not a day goes by when she puts some kind of roadblock in the way of affordable housing. She was an embarrassing riot on the dais tonight, extoling her own generosity in pursuing affordable housing locally for the working class and YES, the City is again being sued over Density Bonus again, before the Council even had the opportunity to shoot off their other big toe yet.

Catherine on the other hand had to voice the opinion that she doesn't want to sit still for six hours and listen to anyone else besides herself. Its lonely at the top. Such a disappointment she is. At least Lisa can remember the lies she tells.

    1. Lisa has done a lot to hurt the local residents in her SANDAG vote to appeal the lawsuit to the State Supreme Court. The suit was filed by Attorney General Kamala Harris for understating the environmental impact of carbon emissions from the I-5 expansion. Now environmentalists and other citizens will have to fight this case a 3rd time. In short, Lisa voted exactly the same way that Jerome Stocks would have voted once again.

She needs to vote consistent with her claims as an environmentalist.

  5. Muir's son is now in high school and all of a sudden he is concerned with kids doing drugs and smoking pot. Now he wants to get the sheriff's involved.

Where in the hell have you been Muir? This has been going on for years. Did you care about those kids? Of course not.

Why don't you and your big mama go to school with your son? I am sure the school could make larger tables and chairs for you.

News Flash----your son will try all, but you will never know.

    Now, get our roads fixed.

  10. Council reported out of closed session that they will fight the ACLU lawsuit about the nonsensical sign ordinance that Sabine wrote. So they got paid to write it and now Glenn can charge us for fighting against the American Civil Liberties Union.

Since he loses many suits against residents, what chance does he have against the ACLU?

Oh well, it should bring in enough for him to get a new BMW with what he will charge taxpayers. We need have the right priorities in place.

    1. Sabine gets a $500 per month car allowance.

    2. His arrangement as a part-time city attorney for Encinitas and a part-time city attorney for La Mesa while running legal projects through his own private, home office firm, is the WORST situation for taxpayers. Unlike many part-time employees, Sabine gets benefits from Encinitas and is incentivized to take every issue possible to court.

    3. I think he does a good job!

    4. For himself, YES! He is supposed to be looking out for our best interest--not his own.

  11. So they'll defend Sabine's honor, but roll over for the BIA and sell out residents.

  12. So disgusted with our mayor when she was presenting the proclamation that September was Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. All the while she was reading it, she was smiling and pandering to the cameras and the small audience.

I have known many that have struggled and died from this dreadful disease, but she couldn't even have an ounce of compassion and be serious.

She is way too juvenile and continues to show her ignorance. I wanted to run to city hall and smack the hell out of her.

Shame on you Gaspar. Maybe one day you will grow up. There is a time to smile and a time to be serious. Would you be smiling if one of your children got cancer? Cancer does not discriminate.

  13. Let's see. The most common term in the above posts is: "an idiot". I didn't verify but I think each council person was called an idiot. So I assume that the above posters will be pulling papers to run for council next year since they must not be idiots and four of the idiots are up for reelection.

Come people, if the current council are a bunch of idiots, it can't be that hard. Put your ass on the firing line.

    1. Every council person that has ever served so far has been an idiot. Encinitas is full of them. No thanks to the crummy job of sitting for hours in useless meetings with little pay.

I have better things to do.

    2. How are they not idiots?? They over pay for a falling down school, can't fix the roads, give the staff monies willie nillie, they are idiots.

    3. Collectively, resulting from a lot of public input and hard work, they have countless good choices too. We're all lucky to live here; that Redevelopment was shot down twice (and lucky Prop A passed in spite of a misled council majority!) . Pretty good track record considering the indifference of the vast majority or residents. Sad that Carlsbad's City Hall council meeting room is about the same size as ours, but they have 5 times the people (and 10 times our apathy.)

I did not vote for Muir, yet I have found him more willing to listen than some of the others we have up there.
