3/16/16 City Council open thread

The current city council has continued prior councils' practice of not providing written summary minutes of council discussion, but only "action minutes" which state the outcomes. Encinitas Undercover will provide a forum for observers to record what occurs at each council meeting.

Please use the comments to record your observations.

  1. Let's see what kind of nonsense the council is up to tonight.

  2. The highlight of the meeting had to be if a new coffee cart with a larger sink would fit in the storage closet at the library.

Oh the decisions that need to be made.

  3. They did- the said to bring in all the syrians with no screening and build them section 8 housing.

  4. section 8 housing at pacific view. If they need more room they will just borrow another $13 Million and buy some other $4 million dollar piece of property.

  5. At the end, Catherine flipped and came to the right conclusion that the Rail Trail belongs on the 101. She must have heard the Thunder, as In Julie.

I wonder if Tony will hear it too, before the threat leveled at each and every candidate running this year by the No folks becomes necessary.

I have to hand it to these people for organizing such an effective campaign against a poorly thought out plan. We sure could use a lot more of their expertise on other issues facing our community.

    1. Julie's cool - she's a Cardiffian who lives close to San Elijo - involved in her community in so many ways, has ton's of energy and a sweet smile.

  7. 10:58am Thanks Sculpin for finally rising to the surface from your usual bottom feeding position. Keep it up. I know it is in you to raise your awareness of the reality that exists.

Julie Thunder does give us hope for true representation, if she and a couple of likeminded others will run for council. I am sure they want Tony out of there since he moved the rail trail off of the 101. All we need besides the Thunder, are another Julie [Graboi] and just one more to establish a majority that could really clean out the sycophants in the planning and engineering depts., that are still there and continue to sell out our community.

Sculpin, you are welcome to finally join our fellow citizens in their quest for whatever democracy we can glean from the current situation. It is good to have you board in this election year. Keep it up fellow citizen. Hope springs eternal.

    1. Dear diety no.

The aptly-named Ms. Thunder produces terrifying volumes of sound. Apparently, no one else can or should be heard when she's present.

She's welcome to her opinions, but yelling outbursts and sucking all the oxygen out of the room is no bueno.

First, if you're going to site the entry you are commenting on as least get it right. Second, while I frequently disagree with the Sculpin, referring to him as a bottom feeder, even in a backhanded compliment, says more about you then it does him (I like to think of Sculpin as a him). Because you disagree with his comments you have to cask him in the most unflattering light. I imagine you do this to other commenters as well. This is just the sign of a weak mind who can't formulate effective counterarguments and has to resort to name calling.

  8. 9:46pm What to you is sucking the oxygen out of the room from your precarious staff position, is to us, the community, a hope being expressed that we might finally have the change that has been needed for years. You should be looking for employment elsewhere, as your easy run here has reached its limits with our patience. Farming out the work you were hired to do has reached its limits with our patience. You are fortunate that a forensic audit has not come forward. Therein lies the truth and I doubt we will ever see it until a drastic change in leadership on OUR council has been forced down your throats. When that day comes, you and your fellow slackers will be outed. Where will you hide then? It sure won't be anywhere near here.

"9:46pm What to you is sucking the oxygen out of the room from your precarious staff position..."

Whether or not I agree with 9:46 PM (not me), it doesn't sound like it came from someone on staff. But that is your usual mantra. It all the evil and lazy staff's doing. Never mind that they have to follow state laws and city ordinances. They are in the tank to developers and other powerful interests to put the screws to the citizens of Encinitas.

How hopelessly ignorant you are of how city government functions. You don't like where things are heading so you have to create an evil cabal to be responsible. You can disagree with their findings and proposals. You can argue different interpretations and/or plans. But attacking them personally is really getting old. You obviously have nothing to contribute except ad hominem attacks.

  9. 11:25am You choose to defend the lying actions of our planning dept.

I do not and I am far from being alone in my assessment of the zero credibility that they have earned over and over, week after week, month after month. They have been caught by observant citizens trying to gut Prop A and endless other instances where they are indefensible to anyone paying attention. They do not represent this community's will in any way. You are welcome to give them a pass. We will not. They already are history and the sooner they realize this, the better off we all be.

It's you that has zero credibility.

  10. 8:32PM You got me. I don't have any credibility. You are correct sir.

Now you show us all some examples of the fine work that Planning has come up with over, say, the past year. I wait with baited breath to be informed. Somehow I must be missing all this fine work they turn out.

We all know council never fails to thank them every week. Are we seeing the same thing or is the rarefied atmosphere on the dais somehow producing a different picture from what the public sees and hears?

That must be it. Thanks, I get it now. There must be a magical convergence zone between them and the gallery that produces different versions from what the council hears and what the public hears. That's a pretty good trick. I wonder how they do that?

I'm glad the late hour hasn't prevented you from realizing the truth. Disagree with the findings and recommendations all you want but don't substitute ad hominem attacks for counterarguments.

  11. 11:10am Still waiting for some examples of what a great job Planning has been doing for us here. I won't be holding my breath on that, as yet unanswered challenge to you.

You can choose to ignore all the numerous shortcomings of this dept's poor performance and that is your right. You can bury your head up their rear ends as far as you care to.

Just what particular performance can you point out that supports your unwavering belief in our Planning Depts., capabilities? Heu? Railtrail? Streetscam? Flooding? Hiring outside consultants to do the work they are supposedly hired to do themselves? Wasting a million bucks on a 700 plus page failure of an unacceptable to this community plan? Hiring consultants that they hope will bamboozle an unaware public to accept the unacceptable? This small list could go on for pages and pages but whats the point? We have been here all along. Where have you been?

You said it yourself, you have no credibility and I've wasted too much time in past entries with you. You've repeatedly failed to demonstrate any knowledge or insight. I'm not repeating that mistake.

By the way that 700 plus page document, more if you count the appendices, you refer to is the draft EIR not the plan. Just another example of your cluelessness.

  12. How typical. Someone calls you out to provide examples of how great our Planning Dept has performed over the past year and you are remain silent.

That is understandable since there are few, if any, examples you could come up with. Trolling much?
