Gerrymander Joe

Title of the post taken from the comments.

Del Mar Times:
Resident Steven Winters questioned why the council ultimately voted on the maps designed by Boerner Horvath, who was not previously disclosed as the author before the council's decision.

"This was a back-room deal lacking transparency... and leaving a bitter taste in the mouths of Encinitas residents," Winters said, adding he believed some council members had a “hidden agenda” regarding districting.

He added that he believed five other maps met the council's criteria, but council member Joe Mosca said those options did not work for various reasons, including the city's current five communities being "dramatically divided."
Anyone want to take a look at how many of the alternative maps gave each council member his/her own uncontested district?

  2. Tasha shot herself in both feet and, knowing her, doesn't see it.

Claims of wanting to be transparent AFTER you've been outed says loud and clear "I think the others are stupid."

  3. Tasha is actually arrogant and smug about how it went down. Right alongside of her is the arrogant and smug mayor who applauded the deceit and gave all the citizens of Encinitas her middle finger. Time for some recall petitions.

  5. Joe Mosca shouldn't waste his time in running next year! Everyone wants someone to run against him. The only reason he's in this position is that he paid for it - just look at the donations he's made to Catherine and Tasha! Now he just does what they tell him to do.

  6. In order to prepare for his City Council election run, Joe has signed up for a very controversial medical procedure.

  11. Gentlemen and ladies, START YOUR ENGINES!!!

The races have begun again on the Raceway 101. Requirements:

Can your dragracer do over 80 mph and go 0- 60 mph in under 8 seconds without a muffler.

Bonus points for setting off car alarms from the noise.

Don't worry about COPS. In Encinitas, cops don't give tickets for drag racing on Hwy101 with straighpipes. And that the direction given from the City Manager. No tickets on Hwy101.

Think of it. when is the last time you have seen a traffic cop giving a speeding ticket on Hwy101?

I remember seeing one about 5 years ago and nothing since then. The most I ever see of the cops is hanging out at the beach on bikini patrol.

Meanwhile, she's shaking folks down for donations. Apparently, she wants to bring "sustainability, prosperity, opportunity and inclusion" to our area.

Translation: live high and dense, bring big developer money into coffers, (not sure what "opportunity " she means), and a porta-potty on every corner.

    No, thanks.

    1. You know how you sell stuff like stack 'n pack development in California, right? You tell people it will help save the world. A surprisingly large amount of maroons fall for that nonsense.

  16. Why has the city put bicycle parking alone 101 in front of Surfy Surfy?? To encourage riders to bike and park on 101?? Idiots!! Which idiot at city hall come up with this cockamamie idea??

    1. Bring your tough shit card to the bike racks this afternoon between 3-5pm. There will be a city traffic engineer punching cards.

Earn 10 punches, get a brand new card!

    3. Or, stop blaming the victim.

Insist that drivers obey the law or become someone’s special friend in prison.

    4. Riding on Neptune and other back streets is a whole lot safer than riding on 101.

When it's bike vs. car or truck, the bike always loses.

      Delete
    5. Riding the wrong way on a one way street is neither safe nor legal. Drivers backing out of driveways or turning onto Neptune only look south.

      Obey the law.

    6. People ride, walk, run and skateboard south on Neptune all day every day. One way for bikes there is not sensible or enforced. It's a whole lot safer to ride north or south on Neptune than on 101. How many injuries and deaths for bicyclists on 101 vs. Neptune and other back streets?

    7. So if not enforced then it’s okay.

      Hello straightpipes.

    8. Seriously, 1:46? Are you really bitching about people riding bikes south on Neptune? Where's the harm?

      Delete
    9. I have no problem with people riding south on Neptune.

But I have a huge problem with people who think it should be mandatory. Drivers on 101 have a legal and moral obligation to share the road safely with cyclists.

The Taliban’s way to “protect” women from violence and rape perpetrated by men is to take away their rights and cover them up. We don’t do that here.

      Delete
    10. Nobody says riding bikes on Neptune and other secondary streets should be mandatory. It's much, much safer.

Hwy 101 was designed for cars and trucks before many people rode bikes. It's narrow, has parking on one or both sides and doesn't physically allow for bikes.

Pretending it's OK for bikes puts bicyclists in mortal danger, as has been shown time and time again. Regardless of philosophy, most people in cars and trucks are not going to make way for people on bikes.

That's just the practical reality, and it should be minded for the same reason bikes aren't allowed on the freeway.

  17. As long as we don’t become like Del Mar where you have to stop every 100 Yards. I drive my presmog diesel through there every once and a while just remind them just how much smog they are eating every day. Watched one puff of smoke drift right into a restaurant.

    1. That's exactly what streetscam will bring: what you just described.

    2. City will never build streetscape. More interested in providing poop holes for the bums. Can't/won't provide water for landscaping. Where's all the money go?? Oh yes, salaries and pensions. No one at the city is retiring with less than a $100+K pension.

      Delete
    3. The council OKd the expensive new FD truck and crew to cut response times in N Leucadia cause those too long times stood in the way of Streetscape. If the truck does cut response times, the door to Streetscape opens.

It would be close to impossible to come up with a plan dumber than Streetscape.

    4. Yep, that fire station decision showed the city's hand. They are oddly determined to go through with streetscape. What dark money and favors are at stake to make the city so intent on going through with a plan so obviously flawed? That's the real story.

Think about local developers who own property in the area. Some are very popular with council members, past and present.

  19. 1:54pm-

Streetscape is needed. The plan developed to implement the streetscape and the irresponsible EIR for the streetscape is what is ridiculous.

Blaming everyone else for the stagnant do nothing condition at city hall is not right. The Council needs to look at the root cause and hire hire a City Manager that knows how to get things done.

    1. Few Leucadians are against dressing up the 101 corridor a bit, but one lane in each direction and six little roundabouts will do nothing but gridlock the traffic and increase emergency response times. Those "improvements" will not increase business, they'll do the opposite and make it harder to get to and from the beach.

      Delete
    2. 2:45 The purpose of streetscape will be to reward cronies and donors. This is not a right or left concept. Both sides get the money from the same sources. Our country has been based on systematic bribery since it's birth.

    3. 2:45- poop on the beach.

  20. The purpose of the streetscape is to make the street safe for the residents who want to travel along the cooridor and visit the excellent businesses
    there.

Build it now or 5 years ago. This project is the highest priority for the City but so delayed due to pure staff incompetence.

Whoever is leading (misnomer) staff needs to be fired.
