Manhole sinking on Cornish

By request:
The manhole on Cornish is sinking, SINKING!! The street is buckled at the manhole [...]

A larger area around the manhole appears to be sinking, and someone has applied a small amount of asphalt to patch over it.

The area has had major sinkhole problems in the past.

  1. That's nothing compared to Lone Jack's - come on Cornish - step up!!!

  2. The Encinitas Financial future is under the road causing the collapse. Major causes include Stock's 2005 35% increase pension give away and the current City Council insistence on keeping roads in conditions that will result in tens of millions of dollars being paid to the poor souls run down on the known unsafe roads. We know three recent life ruining incidents. Whos kid will be the next?

  4. The city is commiting more than $30,000,000 on a project that half us of don't want - streetscape. Don't worry we'll have a few hundred left to fix the streets, flooding, undergrounding powerlines, etc......

    1. more than half want it. Its just the current City leaders can not deliver shit on any count.

Its past time for new leadership that can actual get things done. How on earth could the streetscape possibly be this far along with Coastal Commission approval without Sandag and NCTD approval. Clear the City has no idea what its doing and yet no-one is held accoutable. Typical mode of operation in Encinitas.

  5. Put a cone on top and call it traffic calming. Everyone will then love it.

  6. Put a GREEN cone on it and call it a bike lane.

  7. Put a stripe around it and call it a mini roundabout.

  8. It could be worse..
It could be - man sinking Cornish into manhole.
    Thank goodness..

  9. I remember when Director of Engineering, Glenn Pruim did a big study to lower the threshold for pavement standards in Encinitas. However, the the time tested way to do this, he hired consultants to come in, and we paid them hundreds of thousands of dollars while our "professional staff" collected their pay and sat on their asses.

  10. Next election, please do not vote for any incumbents. They support the state of the roads, encouraging homeless to live at our beaches for free mooching, more section 8 housing in Encinitas, more bars and and development style of PB or Huntington Beach.

They totally screwed up the housing element fiasco again costing the City dearly.

Yuck- that is the opposite of what I support.

  11. "Things can always be worse and we will do our part to help"

The motto of our City Manager and the City Council. Its too bad because there are many other City employees that actually want to do good things for Encinitas but they are beaten down by the dump ass at the top.

  12. The city didn't fix anything, they put a band aid on the broken arm.
Typical Encinitas, a day late and a dollar short.
    Once again.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................FAILURE.

  13. Encinitas City Hall mode of operation-

Two steps forward, four steps back and three people run over.

"Thats OK, we will not do anything as usual. I sure can't wait to collect my pension and not have to listen to these whiny residents. They actually want us to make things better. Ha. As if!"

  14. I can't stand the pie in sky gullible warming garbage stated by the mayor or the other leftists on the council. Or the lie about all the usage of bicycles.......all made up garbage. But, I will say the streets of Encinitas are a lovely dream compared to San Diego city. By the way ding dongs........you call that a sink hole?? That ain't nothin'. It has a temp patch and will be dug up and fixed......so quit whining, what the hell is wrong with you clowns? And no.......I don't work for the city but I know my subject matter. You clowns would complain if you got hung with a new rope......so can it.

    1. perfect example of the City Hall montra.

"Well it could be worse and we will do our part to help get there."

Comparing themselves to the roads on SD (the worse in CA). Wow- that is saying alot. Well done chap. Now go back to sleep at your job.

  15. 1:06- You are a full of shit Kook.

We all know the City of Encinitas suck and there is no debate on the subject.

Encinitas put all the City's money towards the huge regional sports complex and pulled all the maintenance money from our roads. Now the citizens suffer and it will cost the taxpayers way more to bring back our former nice road condition.

Keep your mouth shut kook. You don't know shit.

  16. Oh, look.

People losing their f-ing minds over a pothole.

  17. 1:06........and there it is folks.......some chowder head living in the sixties and still using the term kook...what's next..bitchen?
I may not know you, but I know people just like you...so,
    I do know sheeet.

  18. There may be much deserved criticisms of 1:06 but he is right about one thing - that ain't no sinkhole. Remember the one on Lone Jack? THAT was a sinkhole! And the city got right out there, assessed the situation and fixed it pronto - despite all that diverted money going to all those projects that some here have deemed irrelevant, unnecessary, a waste, yada-yada-yada.
The sportspark didn't turn out the way I wished - but it gets used by a lot of people so overall a good thing. The moonlight station - good thing. The library - best thing. PV - OK, THAT was and still is a disaster. New hotel - it's about time and we need one so bingo. Streetscape - onward!
Oh, and 1:06 is right about another thing; for some here, yes, you would complain if you got hung with a new rope......

  19. Won't someone do their civic duty already and bicycle through the thing? That will get Blakepear's attention.

  20. Maybe stop whining and report a pothole.

  21. sounds like something the City Manager would say. It could be worse. Right?

Look at San Diego, or Oxnard.

  22. the City Manager and City Council motto. Hey we are not doing bad, compare us to the worst!

What a loser mentality. Thats how you become the worse.

  23. Neptune being repair & resurfaced. Kathy repaying her elite backers and financial backers. The rest of the streets be damned!!

    1. Wrong, 9:15. Blakespear is no favorite up on Neptune. Between Beacons stairway to outer space and Streetscape, she is not on the receiving end of big bucks from them folks. Look to the development community if you want to know where she owes the most.

    2. Read between the lines... there are much worse streets than Neptune that need repair.

    3. 9;15 - the city has approved every lousy building project west of the 101. They've given the ok to every build-to-the-maximum shabby-ass proposal.
Rincons Jason street shacks are a good example.the city has done little for the west of 101 - including Neptune- Leucadia people..all I ask is for a path to the beach without some cut-through cretin running me over.
      I appreciate the Neptune tune-up
