City closes beaches

After failing to observe even the most obvious work-from-home protocols at city hall, the city now declares that taking a solo stroll on city beaches is prohibited because of Coronavirus.

City of Encinitas:
In support of regional efforts to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), effective at midnight tonight and beginning on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, the City of Encinitas is closing all City beaches, access points to beaches, and parking lots adjacent to beaches until further notice.
This is apparently due to bad behavior of crowds on LA beaches. So now you can't go for a social-distance walk alone on the beach.

Isn't urban density fun?

  1. And there it is. City of Encinitas, State of California, keep giving the o.k for multi story ghetto apartment buildings.
    You fools

  2. This is due to bad behavior in the city of Encinitas. The beaches were packed on Sunday. The beaches should have been shut down weeks ago.

And remember when go for a walk, and it feels crowded, you are the crowd.

    2. Think before you speak. Why is California not expanding like most of the east coast states with the virus? Because we live outdoors. The sun kills viruses, including Corona. So, lets ban people from going to the beach. This is the most ridiculous thing I have experienced in my life as a Californian. Whoever is responsible for this decision should be removed.

Anyone with common sense knows being outdoors is safer than indoors, where there is no sun and only germs to spread. Shutting down the beaches is pure stupidity.

  3. City streets are getting more crowded with walkers and cyclists every day. Time to shut them down. Sidewalks will be next. Forget about the Cardiff Rail trail.

  4. I can't believe the amount of whining I am hearing in this town. Don't you idiots get it. ITS A PANDEMIC!! If you get sick you WON'T be bale to run, jog , surf or do any of your daily routine. I am also glad you, WC, changed the original post I saw last night where you suggested a solo run or surf session was sorta OK. Shit's getting REAL. If we can flatten the curve, lives will be saved. I'm willing to stay inside. Why won't others?

Right!?! You'll have to wait at least 2 or maybe even 3 days until you're feeling well again!! Unless you're old, then you're an idiot for getting sick.

  5. The interesting thing is, when the shit hits the fan in hospitals in two weeks, the roads and trails will be empty because people will be scared. But the infections that cause that shit to hit the fan are actually happening right fucking now.

Are we really so lacking in imagination and understanding as a species that we cannot comprehend danger and take avoiding action until it’s too late?

Oh yeah. Climate change. We can’t.

    Bring on the asteroid.

  6. No Im not staying inside my house - you want to know why because this is still AMERICA and Im an American Citizen. If people cant see that their rights are being violated than their idiots. Let me remind you that it was the people who stood up and were defiant that made this country what it is! Until they have armed guards down at the beach I will still surf. If I get sick (just like if I get sick any other time) I will rest and get better, we can not live in FEAR because that is what is happening right now.

    1. Thanks, bro.

But I usually take my constitutional and pandemic response advice from someone who knows the difference between “their,” “there,” and “they’re.” Also “then” and “than.”

Don’t be discouraged. I’m sure other readers will happily take advice from someone with a failed fourth grade education.

    2. Derp, I be American. Derp derp, i know my rights derp dero.

Virus dont give a fuck about your rights. Which is also why Mira Mar base is being set up to handle derps that can't follow orders. Yes, orders because Martial law is right around the corner. So when your derp ass gets a fever check while ignoring stay at home orders, you will be retained. If your are positive you will be living on a cot on Mira Mar base for a couple weeks with the rest of the derps. Your kids will and wife will probably not miss their daddy derp though.

    3. What our Amercun patriot at 9:46 didn't get or doesn't care about is the other half of the memo. Even if he doesn't feel sick/doesn't get sick, he could easily be a carrier who kills someone with a less-robust constitution.

Our parents, grandparents, and great grandparents all sacrificed a whole of a hell lot more than what we are being asked. 9:46 is 10 ply toilet paper soft, can’t even chill out at home for a few weeks. Imagine being in the trenches with 9:46 trying to tell the enemy about his AMERICAN rights. Your soft and a whiner 9:46, go cry to mommy.

You probably are obese or smoke cigarettes. Maybe not but you're still soft and watch too much propaganda on teevee.

Kill your tv- you'll thank me.

    It's over folks.

    Are you ready?

And for the haters and dumbocraps that don;t realize what is really happening...

You need to social distance your mind from you body.

  18. yet another stupid move from the Mayor and City Hall.

People would like to stay healthy by maintaining their distance yet getting exercise along our wide open coastline.

The issue is not with people walking or surfing along the beach. The issue is with congregation. Focus on the problem issue and do not make most people suffer worse health by your ridiculous over reaching illogical closures.

Booooo. You are bad for your community.

  19. Apparently these buffons are coming on with ÿou're going to die dates"if we don;t shut down everything for 18 plus weeks or months (same thing they'll both bring social breakdown).

Does anyone really dig into the facts anymore?

I'm not speaking of facts coming out of the "experts"like Fauci - what a clown that guy is.

Fact: One half of one percent of the unfortunate folks who have died in Italy did NOT have co-morbidities.

What does that mean? Look it up asshole.

One can only hope the city council, mayor, governor, LA mayor too will lose their lives from this.

Our society would be infinitely better off.

      No thanks.

  21. So you close ALL our beaches and ALL our trails, where are we ALL supposed to walk again? On 4 foot wide sidewalks?? How can ANYONE be 6 feet apart, when all neighborhoods are all on their sidewalks walking??
Completely ass backwards! The beaches have the MOST space to social distance, why didn't you just STOP the dumb people playing volleyball and other games? We need to WALK and RUN somewhere and now we have NOWHERE!

At the same time, and because recreational beach and coastal access also play important
roles in maintaining mental and emotional health, especially during times of stress, public
agencies and local governments should strongly consider maintaining access to such
public spaces where recreational users are practicing safe social distancing and there is
no obvious increased risk to public health, or if other measures are deemed sufficient in a
given area. We recognize there is an inequity in coastal access and we strongly encourage
local governments to consider approaches that balance public health order requirements
and equitable public access -- the coast belongs to all

  26. I don't know the answer can someone please tell me.
If I access the beach at Pipes which was still open today and walk to Swamis and turn around how is that illegal? I didn't access the beach via the city owned stairs, does the city own the beach? What if I paddle to Swamis and surf there and never touch the beach why is that illegal? Doesn't the ocean belong to all of us? Just questions I don't have answers for.

  28. For those wishing to take a break in the outdoors, public health officials are advising them to walk, run, hike and bike in their local neighborhoods and walk to parks. Most importantly, the public is being asked not to congregate in the outdoors. Everyone has the responsibility to “Flatten the COVID-19 Curve at Parks” by maintaining a social distance of 6 ft. or more when recreating in the outdoors, and staying home if they are sick. If visitors cannot maintain social distancing, they need to leave the park.

This makes sense. The City's action to close the City beach's makes no sense and is bad for Encinitas residents health.

Please allow us to maintain our health and open the beaches for good fresh air exercise.
