Monster House Suzy Brown gets no jail time

Steal a million bucks worth of stuff, get a $968 fine.

U-T:

A woman accused of stealing $1 million in fixtures from an Olivenhain mansion that became known as the “Monster House” pleaded no contest Monday to a misdemeanor grand theft charge in Vista Superior Court and will serve three years’ probation and pay a $968 fine.

I'd imagine there are more courtrooms in Suzy's future. The Monster House investors can't be happy that she sold it as a rehab center when she didn't have the zoning for it. And then there's that whole "Suzy Tesla" thing. But I wouldn't bother suing her. I suspect it's blood from a stone at this point.

Cardiff ain't the only Kook in Encinitas!

  1. I thought 'grand theft' was always classified a felony? How is bagging a million bucks worth of property only a misdemeanor? Someone should get a statement from the prosecutor as to the logic behind this decision.

  2. The case states that there was an issue with the legality of the bank's deed when it foreclosed on the home. Nationwide (except California) many of these foreclosures are under legal scrutiny and in the process of mitigation.
I personally see this as a fair judgement, considering the "million" worth of property in question was returned and a no contest plea was entered. As a supporting neighbor, I knew first hand the amount of love and attention to detail went into this home over the several years of construction, however I do not condone her actions.
Ultimately it was the wrong location to pursue her dream, regardless of her endearing vision to contribute to society in a positive way. I was also thoroughly embarassed for Encinitas, specifically the rabid neighbors, and the ensuing dog pile that followed.
Where's that frenzy now with the incredible amount of zoning violations taking place across the street from the Monster House?
