Council candidate song and dance show tonight

The appointment candidates present their cases tonight.

Rumor is the council majority wants to appoint a huge Jerome Stocks crony.

A large public turnout this evening, and at next week's appointment vote, might be enough to dissuade some council members from going along with that.

  1. Question - If Mark Muir is the chosen one will he resign his seat on the Olivenhain water district? Or was he required to do it once he applied for the Council position?

  2. 55 to 1 odds say its Muir. He owns council. Thats how he got the tax payers to spend 30 million on sleeping quarters for 3 paramedics and garages for the over sized paramedic units. Not including his 7 million dollar pension if his heart can make it another 2o years.

  4. The pension fiasco is going to weigh this city down so heavily with unsecured debt that we should consider revoking incorporation. Some time back, a person posted the pension obligation for 5 ex-city employees - over $500,000 a year! As these fiscal numbers grow, the debt is going to be a majority issue in the budget.. Most people in civic positions feather their own nests and serve a select constituency - this is becasue the average voter is unaware and apathetic about the affairs of their city. Jerome Stocks needs to be eliminated from the City Council in 2012 - he has done Encinitas no favors!

  6. Good advise Anon233, but maybe we should all do the oposite and have every community break away from City Hall and leave them to themselves.

All of the communities have great people who can all get along. It is only the City Hall crowd that ruin it for the rest of us!

  7. Let's not forget that Ehlers was Muir's next door neighbor and has had hate for Muir that goes back two decades; combined with professional jealousy.

Houlihan won her three elections despite Ehlers, not because of him. Check out Ehler's failed council campaign; its instructive.

  8. This process taking place to replace Houlihan is all for show; $tock$ and Bond already have it decided. There is absolutely no incentive nor necessity for them to listen to the public input, as it is solely within their realm to make this decision. It is a golden moment for them to further entrench their political stranglehold on the council. Whoever it is will have a decided advantage as an "incumbant" in 2012 to be elected.
