Graboi goes live

City council candidate Julie Graboi has launched her web site here.

It's refreshing to see policy specifics and Graboi's history of working to improve policy at City Hall. For far too long, Encinitas campaigns have been defined by generic platitudes and motherhood statements from the candidates, and personal attack mailers from the big-money political machines. Other candidates would do well to follow Graboi's lead and address the issues of concern to Encinitas voters.

Graboi can be reached at juliegraboi4encinitas@gmail.com.

  1. Website looks good. Three questions:

    1. Is she aligned with Cameron?
    2. Does she support the N.C. Hwy 101 Streetscape?
    3. Does she support roundabouts on NC Hwy 101?

Answer the questions to my liking and you get my vote, money and support.

    2. Crappy, What is the purpose of six roundabouts? It seems rediculous unless A: you get paid to build them, or B: you want most of the small businesses run out of town. Most of these businesses wouldn't survive the contruction duration. Personally I would guess that you are a property owner in this area and want the value elevated by this project which is understandable but alot of us just don't get the reasoning behind the quantity of roundabouts.

    5. 8:43 Especially since five of the six are within 8/10 mile at the north end, and the next one is 1.2 miles south.

Of the five at the north end, one would be at a hotel entrance and another at a condo entrance, both private roads.

The push for six roundabouts sure seems to be private interests using public money to serve their ends.

  12. Ziegler just got endorsed by the Republican Party. It'll be funny to watch him campaign about "small government" while he rakes in $122K off the taxpayers' backs. He also seems to be a pawn of the growing police state. The San Diego GOP personally does not like me because I campaigned so tenaciously for Gary Johnson in San Diego county, so I can see why they're paying special attention to this race.

Both Blakespear and Ziegler are in the pocket of the police (and their pensions & para-militarization). Blakespear took a ride-a-long with some officers. I wonder what a ride along would have been like in a day on duty with the Ferguson police, Fullerton PD, Oakland PD, LAPD, or NYPD. I would never be caught dead in a ride-along in a squad car given the killing streak of unarmed blacks & Latinos, mostly teenagers.

    1. To me, local issues, like upholding Prop A (stopping all new housing development in general, it's the Federal Reserve's housing bubble), firing Vina/Sabine, opposing tax hikes, taming the pension problem, 100K+ salary problem, etc., those are all a given. The debate on those issues is pretty much settled. I of course will advocate for those issues, but no one talking about how Encinitas accepted $300K from the Department of Homeland Security, which came along with strings attached, such as the municipal enforcement of the PATRIOT Act. Now, that is a local issue.

I've tried to get Gaspar, Kranz, and the rest of the council to issue a statement as to why they believe the Bill of Rights should go through a paper shredder. Silence. They'll say 'That's not a local issue. Just relax while we slip into fascism.' They made it a local issue when they accepted money for it. Ziegler works for the county as well as the sheriff, who lied about having a drone (or at least seeking a price quote).

Even if they didn't enforce the PATRIOT Act at a local level, making it a local issue, the Constitution & Bill of Rights gives us the 10th amendment power to be proactive on issues of injustice. Albany, NY became the first municipality to nullify indefinite detention of persons without charge or trial (NDAA law), and it also makes it illegal to suspend habeas corpus and the right to a trial (let alone a fair trial). Dozens of cities have nullified indefinite detention. The medical cannabis law passed in '96 was 10th amendment nullification at a state level.

Tenth Amendment Center has model legislation for various issues where cities & states have nullified things like Obamacare, legal tender laws (the Federal Reserve's crutch; Denver now circulates "Mountain Hours" alternative currency), NSA surveillance, drones, and more. Archbishop Desmond Tutu said, to be silent in the face of an injustice is to side with the oppressor. These are important issues that can be tackled at the local, state, and federal level, but the federal government is sold down the river, Sacramento is sold down the river, and California has a Top Two primary system which guarantees that any candidate who is the peoples' voice cannot get elected, so our only option is the local level.

The NSA is a perfect local issue. Municipal & county governments are responsible for Time Warner's monopoly on one region, and Cox in another, and both sell you out to the NSA. Why not do the opposite at the local level and break up their monopolies, allow for private ISPs, who will make their networks encrypted & tell the NSA to go screw themselves, to service our local residents? This would also allow for independent journalism & indie TV stations to rise so we don't have to be brainwashed by all this garbage on cable TV.

      Delete

    2. I reject the notion that those issues should be tossed aside because it doesn't appeal to local voters. Cart before the horse. Maybe these superficial corrupt corporate candidates who purposefully dumb down the dialogue because they view us all as children have shaped the political discourse over decades to make these issues irrelevant. There's also the mainstream corporate media: when was the last time they reported on people curing their cancer with cannabis oil? When was the last time they said 'You know all those bank commercials you see? It's all one big fraud. All of it. We've been lying to you about everything while our corporate advertisers trick you into spending your hard earned dollar for fake food, fraudulent banking systems, poisonous Big Pharma pills, and corrupt political ads.' The corporate media dumbs down the conversation.

People do care about these issues. When the corrupt politicians are not appealing, they don't go out and vote. They don't get involved in city council meetings. They stay home. There is a sleeping giant of a voter block waiting for someone who truly represents them. I'll be the candidate to talk about Prop A & firing Vina in addition to talking about protecting our Constitutional rights. After all, any officeholder, from city to federal, takes an oath to uphold the Constitution & the Bill of Rights, so it would be in my job description. That means that every single member of the council has failed at their job and have betrayed the residents of Encinitas, the American people, and the Constitution itself.

Since the Gaspar/Kranz & Ziegler/Blakespear choices are not really choices at all, lesser of two evils/equal of two evils, I am probably going to cast my vote for Julie Graboi, even if we have differences in viewpoints. I know the other candidates are a straight-ticket to fascism as well as a boondoggle for the developers.

    3. Even a brief exposure to your thinking suggests that any police ride along you do will likely be involuntary.

    4. Nullification=anarchy. You are throwing every single outsider movement, conspiracy theory and picking and choosing your take on the constitution and bill of rights willy nilly style.

Calling the other candidates a straight ticket to fascism nullifies any chance you might have of garnering significant votes. Nothing can replace the hard work of campaigning in a democracy, something it looks like you're unwilling to do.

You can't make changes from the inside, and yes it's a world of compromise when you get into political office..

You don't get out much, do you? Unless there is some kind of emergency, and no, the drought situation hasn't reached that point yet, you can't just arbitrarily stop all housing development.

Being clever is not the same thing as being ready for office. I'd let it bake for a few more years before you're done.
