Should Al Rodbell run for mayor?

He respectfully requests your input.

  1. Yes, he would be an excellent mayor.

  2. I think his candidacy would be good for the process.
He always speaks his mind, even if he doesn't always have the mainstream opinion.
He reminds me of Ralph Nader. He isn't afraid to bring up the issues that don't get much attention, even though they should and deserve to.
But that honesty can be hard for many to embrace in a candidate.
So I hope he runs, but can understand if it is not how he wants to spend his time and energy.

  3. I agree with 12:00.

I don't think he could win.

If there was a public ombudsman, that position would be perfect for Al.

  4. I think that having different candidates enter the race can change the conversation. I like Al very much and appreciate his passion for this city. He has to decide for himself, but I might very well vote for him!

  5. Which candidate would Al siphon votes from? Sadly, whatever kind of thought-provoking dialogue he could inject into the election will be forgotten by the next election. In the meantime, the non-siphoned front-runner would win.

  6. I agree. Al will definitely play a huge part in who becomes our first elected Mayor. I see him siphoning a lot of votes away from one candidate which will help the other win. It will be interesting to hear Al during the debates.

    3. 6:34 with all respect you reveal not only that you are uninformed but also the power of the propagandists in the media

Sarah Palin never said she could see Russia- The liberal communist comedian Tina Fey said that. The was followed by CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, The Vie, GMA, Oprah, Dave Letterman, Bill Maher and the others promoting the untruth - and now you join them

While the press was bus promoting the lie- they failed to ask Obama if he had managed a budget (he hadn't) if he had managed a city or state (he hadn't ) if he had ever held a private sector job (he hadn't- unless you count the 90 days before he quit an analysts job) what his relationship with the domestic terrorist who bombed americans was (Bill Ayers) what his relationship with Tony Rezko was (before Rezko went to jail, who sold Obama a sweet inside crony land deal) what his belief in Critical Race Theory and Black supremacy was( see professor Derrick Bell at Harvard and the Reverend Wright) or even why Obama voted against immigration reform as a senator (long before the 100,000 illegals invading our borders today taking nearly $4B from legal citizens and taxpayers of today)

No, no time to ask those questions- let's all have a laugh-

that is your US media- bought and paid for by the left, now promoting the agenda of Hamas

    5. Pretty close:

The basis for the line was Governor Palin's 11 September 2008 appearance on ABC News, her first major interview after being tapped as the vice-presidential nominee. During that appearance, interviewer Charles Gibson asked her what insight she had gained from living so close to Russia, and she responded: "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska":

Two days later, on the 2008 season premiere of Saturday Night Live, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler appeared in a sketch portraying Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton, during which Fey spoofed Governor Palin's remark of a few days earlier with the following exchange:

FEY AS PALIN: "You know, Hillary and I don't agree on everything . . ."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: (OVERLAPPING) "Anything. I believe that diplomacy should be the cornerstone of any foreign policy."

FEY AS PALIN: "And I can see Russia from my house."

Henceforth, invocations of Sarah Palin frequently employed the line "I can see Russia from my house," rather than the words she actually spoke, "You can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."

    6. Even though it's not literally what she said, the point of the spoof and why it sticks so well is it shows what a total airhead Palin is.

Is it necessary to point out that SNL is a sketch comedy show, and for centuries it's been through comedy that truth has been revealed?

thank you for putting in the effort and energy to research that the Governor of Alaska once discussed the states proximity to Russia-jeez, what a suprise. I wonder why the media didn't focus on her success running the state's budget?

Can you offer any research on the other facts listed? Why was Obama never vetted, and instead protected, by a lying corrupt propgandist media? What is critical race theory? Why did the press fail to report on hios shortcomings and lack of leadership? What is black libertion theology and black supremeancy? How does critical race theory seek to change laws based skin color, is it racist?

Who can forget Obama's 2012 election lie AQ is on the run. Yeah today AQ is buthering christians, woman, homosexuals and who ever else gets in their way across the middle east- Hamas? they are AQ in a different shape, promoting the genocide of Jews- and now Anderson Cooper wants us to 'understand' the side of Hamas

Oh yea- the black flag of hate that is AQ, you know AQ that's "on the run" it was flying high and proud over the US Embassy in Lybia where our US Ambassador was murdered, Hillary and Obama lied blaming a video- and the propagandist media covered it up to elect Obama - who can forget "get the transcript Candy" , and the damatic Candy Crowley lie. The media of course never held Crowley or Obama accountable- and Crowley then got her own show.

As for Russia and Putin, how long before he wants to annex Alaska -

      Delete
    9. 11:08- Palin also said Obamacare would be a disaster and raise premiums on families and cause people to lose insurance- and it has.

Palin also said in 2008 if Obama was elected Putin would see his weak character and move on the Ukraine-

      both have come true.

    10. 11:00 nice work on researching Saturday Night Live. Have you watched Sherriff Joe's presentation of evidence that claims Obama's 'Certificate of Live Birth" is a forgery?

The state propagandists media have portrayed the Sherriff as saying the President was not born in the USA. The actual truth is Sherriff Joe doesn't say that, but he does show detailed evidence the Certificate of Live Birth is a forgery. It's compelling. The state run propagandist won't cover it and well, imagine that, SNL makes jokes about it.

Nah- probably better to watch some more SNL birther skits than actually watch the presentation of evidence.

  8. If Catherine failed to see the value of Prop A to this town she is not what we need. We have had enough seat fillers with GASpar, Muir, Shaffer, Kranz, and Barth. With this city being a magnet for DB how in the world could any of them miss the importance of the protection it provides, unless, as I suspect, Catherine was already in the mix with the majority. How convenient for them to have her standing by in the waiting. Lisa came out for her today, big surprise to no one.
Julie must really threaten them and it is about time we had a true independent candidate.
Al got off on the wrong foot with wanting to dump the whole PV deal. We can all agree with him on the corrupted process that went down and thanks to Sabine for his non-excellent legal non-strategy through the whole proceeding. Fire our city attorney and take gus with him.

  9. Al should run only if Sheila doesn't. Tomorrow is the deadline. If Al runs, he should then be seen often around town having lunch with Meyer, Harwood, Stocks and Andreen.

That would get people thinking he's aligned with them, and that would drain votes from Gaspar. That would make the contest between Kranz and Fidel, cause the right would be split between Rodbell and Gaspar, thus neutralizing them.

Before the campaign amps up, Fidel should be taken to a deprogramming/reprogramming facility to familiarize him with the issues and accelerate his maturation process, while not compromising his integrity and devotion to the people.

Then the majority should elect Fidel. He would shake things up in a good, positive way and get the City out of its corrupt business-as-usual rut.

    1. Complete nonsense 6:29. Sheila is not running. Fidel is a kid with his own lunitic agenda. Al is a great guy and could be effective but he doesn't have a base that can support and fund him to get elected. He is too late to the dance.

Unfortunately Gaspar has a very organized base that will undoubtedly crush Tony come November.

    2. Geez, 6:57, are you so dense that you can't tell the difference between a joke and a serious post?

Then you go on to state the obvious, except for the crush Tony part — not necessarily. The choice for many will become the lesser of the two evils.

FYI: Sheila has let it be known that she's "thinking about running for mayor."

  10. Thanks for your comments.

However there is a glitch. Having filled out the financial form previously for the Traffic and Public Safety Commission, I was thinking that if I was stricken by a case of "irrational exuberance" when I woke up Friday, the final day for submission of all material, I would complete the process with the financial disclosure form. The problem is the requirements seem different from the commission and changed over the last few months. It's complicated enough that the Fair Political Practices Commission has a staff to answer phone queries from candidates. I called them this afternoon and was told that this office is closed from noon Thursday and all day Friday.

Not sure whether this is their normal hours off or something special. But, there are fines involved if there is a misunderstanding.

I appreciate your comments, but thist could be for the best, that whatever efforts I want to make will have to be on my own website. I can understand better why cynicism is the national attitude about everything government.

  15. This group loses sight of the limitations on city political action due to the relative disinterest by the voting public. The details of candidates, their votes, their ad hoc coalitions are of great interest to the hundred or so people who frequent this website.

That's out of some 15K or so voters on an off year. These people think about city hall politics as much as we do the actions of the Mira Costa Board of Directors or the Olivenhain Water Board-- few or none of us could name those on it much less their positions.

Very few people understand what prop KLM achieved in 2012, and will argue that since it decided on an elected mayor, it most be a "stronger" mayor, the "go to" guy to get things done. They won't believe that this law was an act of civic vandalism, as it means those elected to a four year council term will be thinking about running for mayor after a year or so, rather than taking any risk for the common good.

The few perks, appointing members of commissions and writing the agenda, all are based on approval of the council majority, so it the mayor tried to exercise these as right, he/she will incur resistance from the other members, so even this authority is meaningless.

I doubt that there will be the move to reverse this, as it would take too much effort and the public will not understand the motivation. They would see this as a "power grab" by those who support it since it is taking away their vote for mayor--that's as far as the public perception will go.

Tony's run is an example. How pointedly will a mayoral candidate confront him since he will be a needed vital ally no matter how badly he is defeated. The elected mayor referendum that was voted in, against the soft recommendation of Barth and Shaffer, will haunt this city until it is reversed, no easy feat. What is needed is an evaluation of a Charter City, which would be a clean slate to define a more functional city government. I don't think Al could have pulled this off, and he knows it, which is probably why he won't end up running.

The 101 is a road hazard- bikers out of control and not giving a crap or obeying rules of the road, slanted parking and jutted out curbs, the tripling of cross walks leads to more idle cars and increased pollution and devastation to the environment, more than one local business went under during the year of construction, perhaps most telling of all- few people are using the rail trail- think of the millions in money that went to pay for a glorified sidewalk few are using

now comes phase two of stack and pack led by Marco Gonzales and "The Coast Lose Group"- they want to stick more stack and pack units down there, with more cars and less parking-

He proceeds to put Ms. Cameron down as her term of mayor. He should have mentioned that the other 4 council members at the time all ganged up on the poor mayor so they could get rid of her and they themselves become King and Queen for the day.

Petty, petty politics by a former petty, arrogant Mayor $tock$.

A lot of us wish he would go away and stay away and shut his trap. But, he likes to have the last word because he got literally "trounced" in the last election and he still can't take it.
