5/18/16 City Council meeting open thread

The current city council has continued prior councils' practice of not providing written summary minutes of council discussion, but only "action minutes" which state the outcomes. Encinitas Undercover will provide a forum for observers to record what occurs at each council meeting.

Please use the comments to record your observations.

  1. Rolodex??? Really, GASpar. I don't think people in the modern world of iphones, ipads and computers use "rolodex cards" any longer. They are now referred to as "contacts".

  3. I have written an article relevant to motorcycle noise enforcement if you’re interested: The “truth” about Loud Motorcycles the Police can’t or won’t tell you:

  4. Another law making it illegal to manufactured pipes will do nothing. The noise makers just take out the inner contents of their existing muffler or cut it off and put on a straight pipe. It needs to come from active enforcement. It's very easy and efficient to address. The City Manager just needs to give directions to the City's sheriff Captain to make it happen. The City Council and City Manager of Encinitas should partner with Solana Beach and Del Mar to put an end to this decimation of peace and prosperity along the coast.

Do we really want 100 DB cigarette butt throwing low lifes screaming through our beach town setting off car alarms? The lowlife attention seekers are bad for peace, quality of life, business, property values, health, and the environment. Whats the downside to addressing this issue? Maybe the police have to issue a few tickets to get the word out that its illegal? Big Deal.

I never see cops in Encinitas doing any enforcement. Please explain why this isn't easy to address?

    This is worth some discussion!

  6. Is Encinitas being subjugated into a socialist Multiculturalism utopia by subversive powers? Does multicultuealism HELP or HURT..unfortunately the research and data will shock you as it DESTROYS communities and accomplishes the socialist's # 1 goal, the destruction of civic engagement and assemblies. Pretty clever tactic but 'Keep the change' and keep the subsidized multiculturalism out of Encinitas.

    1. "Putnam’s study does make two positive points: in the long run, increased immigration and diversity are inevitable and desirable, and successful immigrant societies “dampen the negative effects of diversity” by constructing new identities."

So I guess when people stop being scared of the new folks they get back to integrating with their fellow neighbors.

  7. How is it ethical that GASpar can be involved in meetings when the person (David Meyer) is suing our city and gave money to her campaign? This sounds like a conflict of interest to me.

What meetings? Are you referring to council meetings or other meetings?

    3. How 'bout that secret meeting she had with a neighbor near Saxony and Mike Andreen concerning upzoning, eh? It's on record.

    4. It sure is! Gaspar was the "guest of honor" at the luncheon for the upzoned property neighbors, together with "stakeholders" from the BIA.

Shaffer defended not notifying neighbors of the upzoned properties by saying they were not "stakeholders."

No diff between Gaspar and Shaffer in their approach toward concerned residents. They are, in Barth's words, "obstructionists."

    5. Gaspar is a puppet; Shaffer is just plain arrogant.

  12. Can Gaspar run for reelection for the Mayoral position should she get knocked out of the Supervisoral race? Did she have to file an intent or is that date still open? I can't think that she'd have closed that door.
If she has, looks like she'll have to return as the CFO of Gaspar Enterprises.

    1. Yes! She can. Plenty of time to file for mayor still.

But don't count her out of the Supervisor race. Despite the GOP official endorsement going to Abed, Gaspar has the support of the big-money business PACs.

    2. They must be working other voting districts differently; maybe they have the demographics down of the areas that would support someone like Gaspar, then intensify the campaign attempts there. It is like selling a product - what out who votes and where and feed them a line. Maybe there is going to be a last minute flurry of activity - voters have short attention spans.

  13. I hope we get to see Blakespear and Gaspar battle it out for the Mayoral position. Bleached blonde hair would fly! Blakespear would have to attack Gaspar's record and Gaspar would have to question Blakespear's competence. It'd be comedy at its best!

  14. Blakespear has the smarts. GASpar is just a dumb bleached blonde with no brains.
