Chaos at the Kwik-E-Mart

It was pandemonium at the corner of Mountain Vista and El Camino Real yesterday as a 77-year-old woman mistook the gas pedal for the brake pedal and plowed into the Quickie Food Store, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage.

  1. This is really unfortunate. Hopefully it's just property damage. One thing we're all going to have to deal with is getting older family members out of their cars.

    1. Indeed.

I think Uber will be a huge help here. Most elderly folks would save a lot of money in taxes, registration, insurance, and depreciation if they got rid of their cars and used Uber for their trips around town.

    2. What, the libertarian wants to deprive old folks of their freedom?

    3. Autonomous vehicles are going to be interesting. Lisa Schafer made a comment at a council meeting that AV will reduce our need for road capacity. I'm not sure that's true. If AV works, it will keep old folks driving longer.

It's coming fast. Tesla AV had more hours of safe driving before their first crash than the average human driver. It's obviously not perfect, but it's already better than a human.

I wouldn't encourage a young person to consider long haul truck driving a viable career choice.

    4. Tasha's big into autonomous vehicles. Give her a few hours sometime and tell you all about how within 20 years they'll be the norm.

    5. Taxpayers pay 20,000 dollars for each Tesla sold. That's right, Elon Musk and Tesla are failing entities without taxpayers paying 20,000 dollars for each Tesla made. It is not surprising socialist Shaffer and Communist Tasha supp0rt bleeding taxpayers to benefit their insider friends. Av cars are being made to limit the freedoms and mobility of future generations, so Tasha , Shaffer, Elon and Hillary can determine and control who goes where and when. Remember, some pigs are more equal than others.

    7. I'm 7:06, extremely leftist myself, but do not see myself turning over my car to be run by a computer/Musk/whomever you want to point to even 20 years from now. I think Tasha's on another planet believing everyone's going to jump on the AV wagon to sit back, relax, and let the car do the driving for them.

7:27 you sound as loony as Tasha, just in a different way.

    8. 7:27 is right on target and not alone. Please keep your hate and criticism at home where it belongs. Cultural Marxists Tasha and Blakespear crave control of people's lives. Tasha is psychologically unstable and Blakespear is a she-male.

    9. AV will be a nice option if you want to enjoy your coffee, have a meal, read the interwebs, or take a snooze during your commute.

If going for a canyon rip in a sports car or cruise on the 101, maybe I'd turn it off. But on a commute or the boring drive to Las Vegas I'd use AV mode.

  4. Hemet used to be the old folks driving hazard zone. Many had tunnel vision and could barely drive a straight line. Nowadays,it's like the people texting or talking on their cell phones - they're simulated 77 year-olds!
