Local Summer arrives late

In the 1890's, early German settlers in Olivenhain coined the term "Lokalen Sommer," referring to that time from early September to early October hen the Zonies headed back home and the grommets were back in school, but the weather remained spectacular and the beaches were all for locals.

In the tradition of those early settlers, Encinitans from every corner (especially Merle), rejoice in Local Summer to this day.

This year, September got off to a cool and damp start.  But Local Summer has finally arrived!

  1. It's 2pm and 104 degrees. Too damn hot.

  2. Its 6am.... and all I hear on Neptune is massive amounts of straight-pipe motorcycles and cars hauling ass down to San Diego on I5 blasting the whole way disturbing others peace and health- both human and animals. Why?

Because they don't give a shit about you and want you to think they are "born to be wild"

What they actually resemble are Fricken root dumb ass rude morons!

I thought Encinitas was supposed to care about polluting the environment and causing the public ill health from massive pollution?

City Council needs to direct the City Manager to direct the Sheriff captain to start enforcing existing laws regarding straight-pipes. They need to give tickets instead of cruising bikini patrol. Its that simple.

    1. Hey anonymous straight pipe whiner, grow a pair!! You constantly whine, bitch and moan on this blog about the issue but you never do anything meaningful to address it. How about you pull a speaker slip at a city council meeting? How about you set up a meeting with council persons? We are all tired of your crying and whining... it's way more annoying than the straight pipes you hate. Either DO SOMETHING or shut up.

    2. In all fairness, 7:31 - I think he has already done that. That's why he's so frustrated.

    3. Has he done that?

    4. Whether or not Mr. Straight Pipe Hater has taken real action - and it doesn't appear that he has - his bitching on this blog must stop. He's not helping his cause and just comes off like a grumpy old fart. All that energy could be dedicated to starting a petition instead of blowing hot air (like straight pipe exhaust).

    5. 12:50- may I suggest you wrote a strongly worded letter to this blog insisting that your right to obstruct his right to complain is more important than his strongly worded letter. Baring that,,, shut the hell up!!

    6. Straight pipe guy has a point that is beyond valid, something needs to be done. On the other hand 7:31 must have straight pipes given his uncivil attitude. Wouldn't want him as a neighbor. He might make a good speed bump.

    7. what does "beyond valid" mean. I'm pretty sure there is no ultraviolet in the validity spectrum.

I hope you will give 110% in answering this question.

    8. You want some valid added comment. There's 10%.

  3. 12:56 You're missing the point. The straight pipe guy is getting nowhere by repeatedly complaining here. If he hadn't already done so and he wants to have the problem addressed, he has to contact the sheriff's department, the city manager and the city council members. If he's already done that, he hasn't said so. Nobody reading this blog can relieve the noise problem.

    1. Exactly the point!!

    2. Haven't you noticed the body language and demeanor of the City Manager at council meetings? She grovels and talks in compliant tones of submission - she is nothing more than a trained servant to the power brokers, who operate thru the council. She will NOT rock the boat and make any significant changes - she is crawling to her gold $225K pension bowl.

    3. It is sickening to listen to the city manager talk. She sounds like a teenage girl giving an oral report in high school. Not only does she sound worn out, but she looks like she just crawled out of bed with messy hair long and stringy and wrinkled clothes. Surely we could have done better.

  4. The council would have to direct the cops to enforce that. I know they do in Newport Beach...

  5. Oh this is hilarious!!! Can anyone say "IRONY"!! Let's replace "straight pipes" with "council members".........Ha!

    2. If straight pipes and noise are a legit problem that the city manager, mayor and council members have heard about from residents, the city manager or mayor can call the captain at the El Cam Real sheriff's station, tell him about the noise and complaints and ask him to enforce the law. I know from direct personal experience that that kind of notification chain has happened before. I'd bet it's fairly common.

    3. Better idea: let's replace our council members with straight pipes!

  6. Want to get rid of straight pipes?? SUE the council for failures to enforce the laws!! Problem solved. After the lawsuit the council will HAVE to address the problem. Then Mr. Sabine can defend the city and its lame ass council.

    1. above commenter is in favor of Prop T, beware. People wanting to enforce laws are dangerous.

    2. Agreed. Especially state laws, which are null and void in the sovereign Encinitastan.

  7. COE still hasn't striped Santa Fe drive. 26 days and counting. COE complete failure. All council members failures. Do re-elect any council members.

  8. Good idea about during the city about not enforcing notice laws. I can't wait for the suite!!!

The new city manager has proved she can't make any significant change at city hall and can not get shit done. Time for her to go.

Bring in a string city manager that can get things done and clean up city hall!!

    1. Ask the former parks and rec director if the new city manager "can't make any significant change".

    2. Contractors are doing the striping, and they're working on it right now. Just be happy they finally resurfaced Santa Fe. Do Not Re-elect any residents...
