Lazy Acres parking

Nice work, City of Encinitas!

That's why we pay those six-figure pensions: you can't get planning and engineering talent like this on the cheap!

  1. Park your 24 foot ridiculously long truck somewhere where it fits, like Texas or AZ.

Drive a more practical car and you will not have problems. Learn from the Europeans dumbasses.

    1. I tried that lot with a small Honda - I could barely get out. They maximized the parking lot slots to fit the business square footage requirements for parking. That place is a disaster with anything but a mini-Smart car. I doubt that I'll go back there again.

    3. First World Problems indeed! Even for this blog, this thread seems particularly sad in its ability to find horror and tragedy in pretty much everything that comes along with living around other people. Here's a thought... If you really are this upset that it takes an extra turn to park your car conveniently in front of your beautiful, clean, well-stocked organic grocery store, might I suggest you start to reflect on exactly what is it that you are all so dang pissed off about? It's not parking. Please trust me. Mommy and daddy stuff. Love life. Other relationships. Career setbacks. Body issues. They all might hold the key to your utter lack of tolerance. Typically I wouldn't care but I can't bear to watch you all lose your minds over absolutely nothing because the hate and rage is so spilled out everywhere that it barges in on those of us just trying to calmly live and work together in a society.

  5. Isn't this regulated by the free market? If people don't like the parking, they will shop elsewhere and the business will fail. The landlord can't be successful without successful tenets.

So why is this a city issue at all?

    1. The city mandates how many parking spaces you have to have for different kinds of retail.

In the case of Walmart, they forced Walmart to wall off a section of the store in order to reduce the retail square footage per parking spot, even though that lot is never full even at prime weekend shopping times.

In the case of Lazy Acres, they appear to have mandated more parking spots than could reasonably fit into the available space.

    2. That makes sense where there is an ajacent neighborhood that could be burdened if the developer doesn't put in enough parking. But neither Walmart nor Lazy Acres centers fit that description.

I'd be inclined to let them figure out parking (number and size of spaces) for themselves. If they get in wrong, they only hurt themselves.

  6. Encinitas' Engineering Dept. once again at its finest. wtf? Where else would this be allowed?

Redraw the parking lot lines. Not gonna happen.

I wonder how many car body bumps and scrapes have happened there. ?

  7. Wait, parking cars and small trucks is a problem? I thought everybody had switched to walking and bikes.

  8. I don't think they re-striped the lot when Lazy Acres came in. I think that's the same parking that was there for Petco and Smart and Final. Go at off hours....

  9. There are more than enough good markets in town. Don't be lazy, go to Sprouts, Trader Joe's, or one of the others.

  10. They definitely repainted the whole lot for the Lazy Acres move in... not sure if the redid the layout, but I suspect they did for the Part in front of Lazy Acres. (As an aside, I do like the facelift the landlord gave the facade of the whole mall.)

  12. Drive an SUV, never had an issue parking there. Maybe work on your driving skills... whiners.

  13. The city has been shrinking the size of parking spaces for a long time, all in the name of squeezing in more commercial establishments. Remember when Walgreen's was put in the Bank of America property at El Camino Real and Encinitas Boulevard? I closed my checking account. It was never easy to get in and out, but the tight parking only made it more frustrating to deal with the giant SUVs.

The city promised certain road improvements. They were never done.

  14. Why has homedepot been allowed to reduce their parking with tents? It's not like it is only temporary. It always has part of the lot closed. Why are there any parking space rules if they are not enforced?
