City Sues Big Pharma

Is this the influence of our new City Attorney Leslie Devaney?  Perhaps she convinced the council the lawsuit will prevail.  Little Encinitas has little to gain if it does win.

Another example of virtue signaling.

  1. City Hall are "F"ing idiots. They can not even make our streets a bit safer and try and keep people from being mowed down and they instead, bury their head and wallet in a huge federal issue. Encinitas residents are getting mowed over way more than ODs on a daily basis. Un"F"ing believable.

  2. Fix the crumbling road in front of La Paloma. Don’t wait for a pharma payout to foot the bill.

  3. I don't understand how our City has standing to sue for this issue or more standing than say the state of West Virginia.

  4. You friggin' idiots. If you get counter sued, you fools will need to hire heavy duty defense lawyers with our money.
There is stupid and there is beyond stupid. These are the same buffoons that will not sell the crumbling school they are still paying for so the greasy stringy gray haired sandal wearing hippies can do finger painting classes. Gawd what a bunch of dolts
The city officials need to be voted out of office.
My gawd, the dumb leading the dumb

    1. Counter sued for what, exactly? What has encinitas done illegally to drug companies?

    2. You can't just start suing people or companies without some factual evidence of wrong doing. When you go down that road expect to get punched back. Morons

    3. I don’t think you understand the law.

A counter suit isn’t “punching back.”

It’s a separate lawsuit, claiming that the original plaintiffs have broken the law.

Again, what has Encinitas done illegally here?

If the opioid epidemic was in part caused by incentives, advertising, misleading statements by the drug companies, then they should be liable for costs incurred by the city.

Costs could include additional policing costs due to addiction, criminal acts by addicts that damage city property (vandalism, car crashes), homeless problems, etc.

    4. I believe the term is Frivolous Lawsuit. And yes, the Company accused can punch back. Separate or not, it would cost the citizens of Encinitas. Perhaps the fools on the City Council should stick with being afraid of gullible warming.

Didn’t realize I was arguing with a retard.

Glad you cleared it up before I wasted more time.

  8. Yes, people are dying. BUT, why are we suing? We have homeless people in our city that are dying. Yet we do nothing. The suicide rate, especially among veterans, is at an all time high, yet what is the city doing? Why is this city council taking on this issue? Answer: Because Catherine is wanting to be in a much higher office and this is a way for her to seem like she is progressive. Class action suits take a long time, so there will be no money coming in if ever. That's not the reason the city is suing. Did you ever see this on an agenda item? Answer: NO! So who made this decision? Take one guess and I imagine you will be right. This is about Catherine Blakespear wanting to look cool. She is supporting Todd Gloria who is running for Mayor of San Diego, and she put his fundraiser at the bottom of her last weekly newsletter, or shall we say propaganda letter. Like Tasha, she wants to go up the ladder. You see her all over San Diego at different events spouting off her philosophy, whatever it is at the time. This is one of the most stupid things I have ever seen. Class action lawsuits are usually individual parties getting together to sue a large company. There are only a few cities that have signed on to this. We will never get any money from it, as she says. And who made her the opiate police? The DEA and the DOJ are doing that. I will vote for ABC, anyone but Catherine, in the next election. Even the guy with the dog. Let's get her out before she goes up the ladder and creates even more havoc.

    1. Exactly.... Fakespear doesn't give a rats ass about Encinitas. She is jealose of Tasha B and especially Kristen G who bitch slapped Fakespears efforts at SANDAG.

Expect movement from Fakespear shortly..... The sooner the better. She is bad for Encinitas. Developers "sweetheart"

  10. I read the article the Mayor wrote. So I checked it out on the CDC's website to see if it was accurate. It's not. Here is what it says about opiate prescriptions in California and death.Opioid Pain Reliever Prescriptions

In 2017, California providers wrote 39.5 opioid prescriptions for every 100 persons (Figure 2). This was among the lowest prescribing rates in the country and significantly lower than the average U.S. rate of 58.7 prescriptions (CDC). The rate of overdose deaths involving opioid prescriptions decreased steadily after 2014 to 2.8 deaths per 100,000 persons (Figure 2), in 2017.

    1. Are we surprised? No. She's learned the art of spin well from her bff attorney friend. The bff should be proud of the student.

Everything that comes out of her mouth should be taken with a block of salt.

  11. MORE virtue signaling from the mayor, this time on homelessness. Here's an inside view from someone who worked alongside her. The mayor checks the boxes and equates that with authenticity.

"I worked volunteered with Catherine Blakespear and her husband Jeremy among several others to do a homeless count. It was evident that Catherine's heart was not in it, it was all about political exposure and coming across as the Knight in Shining Armor. Several of us rolled our eyes at a few of her robotic comments in regards to the numbers."

  12. Corporate attorneys will rip these fools apart. Nice going with your goofy "lets sue big pharma", you have not one clue what the big boys will do you. Geez blakespher, what is wrong with you?

    1. It's all about projecting the right image to rise in the party ranks. Doesn't matter how wacko the idea, if she can get rewarded she'll sign onto anything, using our money. Scarier thought is: she might be a true believer.

      1) Actual damages
      2) A prescription opiate epidemic

Neither of which Encinitas seems to have.

  13. I predict we're going to see Blakespear scrambling increasingly to do things like this in a desperate attempt to redeem herself with residents. Too late, that ship sailed.
