In a normal year like 2019, the average number of deaths per day is 7,970. But it’s seasonal, so in May it would be somewhat lower than that.
Yesterday, we lost 1,223 people to COVID-19. That’s 1 in every 6.5 deaths right now is a COVID patient. And that’s just the “official” count, which is almost certain to be low, because the all causes death rate is even higher than the normal + COVID total.
And remember, it did not have to happen this way. Other countries with better leadership responded earlier. Those countries have less virus spread, less death, and less economic impact.
Our unemployment, our GDP, our case count, and our deaths are the worst on the planet, and it was all avoidable with timely and correct action.
The voters will remember in November.
