Blakespear's bullheadedness sends yet another bicyclist to hospital

From the Inbox:
That's four that we know of in the first two weeks, for those keeping score at home. Attorneys for the victims can find the background in the Encinitas Undercover archives starting here.

  1. I posted yesterday 5/3/2020 while driving on the 101 in Cardiff, these pain in the neck cyclists are riding in traffic lanes and NOT on the bike lane. Why are they always a pain? If you chose to ride in traffic expect the worst. Traffic lanes are not bicycle lanes.

    1. Blakespear took away the bike lane.

The new area is not a legal bike lane, and is dangerous and full of pedestrians.

Bicyclists are now SUPPOSED to ride in the traffic lane.

P.S. Please don't post while driving.

    2. 7:16, then why were there some cyclists in the bike lanes on the east side of the 101 if the bike lanes are gone? Explain please.

    3. It's a multi-use open area, not a designated bike lane.

Cyclists can use it at their peril, but are not required to.

    4. Go to the City of Encinitas website. It clearly states bike lane.

    5. The city can call it a banana. That doesn't make it one.

      Some resources on bike lanes:

It's definitely not a Class II bike lane, because those don't have barriers.

It's most like a Class IV separated bikeway, but these can not be shared with pedestrians, which this absolutely is.

Because it's not a legal bike lane, cyclists are allowed and expected to use the car lane. This was all discussed when the project was approved.

    6. I drove by there yesterday morning as I don't have a life. The cyclists are using the bike lanes as described. They were not in traffic lanes.

    7. I was there too. I saw both.

Beach cruisers in the multi-use area, spandex in the car lanes.

  2. Fakespear took more than the bike lane away, she took away PARKING. She is now limiting access to the beach. Where's the coastal commission??

  3. Sorry, but if you are riding your bike and hit a stationary object, you suck at riding a bike. If you cant see the curbs you are too blind or mentally slow, should slow down or walk. Team spandex is probably crashing on purpose because they don't like sharing the road with those dog walkers and strollers. Ride slow or ride in the street and stop getting your spandex all in a bunch because other people like to enjoy the coast as well. Most annoying bunch of selfish and entitled group out there, even shipped in people from other cities to try and hijack our council meetings. Our city council sucks but team spandex is worse,

  5. Whoever acts as the City Attorney better suggest some remedies before the personal injury lawsuits back log against the City.
