Another serious injury at Blakespear bike obstacles

Encinitas Votes:
Just saw a biker down on coast highway surrounded by his bike buddies. Just passed the ambulance on the way. ☹️

  1. You have no idea if the person crashed due to the barrier. Good job spreading misinformation you hack. Go move to Scottsdale.

    1. Misinformation? Hack?

      Enlighten us.

      1) It happened on the stretch of road where the new barriers are.

      2) The barriers were known to be dangerous before they were installed. There have been at least 12 bicycle accidents there since the barriers were put there less than two months ago. No one can remember any bike accidents in this area in years before the barriers went in.

Go read something else if you can't connect the dots.

    2. You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous of which is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: The Correlation/Causation Fallacy! If two things appear to be correlated, this doesn't necessarily indicate that one of those things irrefutably caused the other thing. Just because a bike rider was down on Coast Highway, it doesn't mean the barriers were the cause. This can be a tough fallacy to spot! Better luck next time.

Deflection. Lets see if the accident was bike related do to the crappy Blakespear design. I bet it was.

If it is, tell their attorneys to get in line and ask if they take IOU vouchers. I think we should go after Blakespear personally and use her Mom's property as collateral.

    5. Hey 11:44! What you say might be true if we were only talking about a single accident. There have been twelve accidents in two months. I don't think that you understand the correlation is not causation argument. We have a documented trend happening here. Put it in a graph over the last 30 years and take a look at the data.

    6. Ahh 2:59. You have also fallen prey to the fallacy, aka post hoc, ergo propter hoc. Just because there were 12 accidents caused by the barriers as you claim, that doesn't necessarily mean this person crashed because of the barriers. You indicate that a causal relationship has erroneously been assumed from a merely sequential one. Instead of possibly spreading misinformation, perhaps the responsible thing for this blog to do is actually find out what happened before fanning the flames.

  2. Oh, hey out there bigots, xenophobes and stupid people.

Just wanted to share a bit of good news.

So, this morning we had the daily call with George Soros. As an aside, I hate these calls. There’s like 150M people on the call, and someone always forgets to go on mute and you can hear their dog barking, or kids screaming—and George is always late which is totally rude.

Anyway, this morning he comes on all like “W’sup everybody! This is G-Dawg (he’s much less formal around movement insiders). I’m comin attcha live this morning from Illuminati Tri-lateral commission HQ, deep in the hollowed out mountain beneath the Swiss Alps.” Read the minutes from the last meeting, treasurer report, Standard intro stuff.

Then we get to the main agenda item, which is whether G-Dawg is going to approve paying me for my comments here on Encinitas Undercover. And I’m thrilled to report that after a lot of debate, it was approved. You are looking at a professional blog commenter.

It’s only 10 cents a post, but you know G-Dawg is, well—er. How do I say this? He’s kind of tight with his money, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, it doesn’t really matter. It’s the thought that counts. And I’m hopeful that if I do a good job making you rats scared and unhappy, maybe I’ll get a raise.

Welp, that’s it. That’s the news. I look forward to representing G-Dawg and the whole secret conspiracy crew right here in EU.

If you have any specific topics or minority groups you’d like to discuss, feel free to mention them in a reply below.

    Toodles.

  3. Not only that but EU was just sharing information from a EV regarding Bonnie Jo's comments. Geeze- Bonnie Jo looks like a nice person to me. Why all the insults?

The whiners are super sensitive because they know millions will go to law suit claims and their horrible leader is responsible for all the blood, pain, suffering and payouts. Sad but true.
There is a really solid chance that Blakespear's time is up. Thank God!

Encinitas can not afford to give all our tax dollars to the injured and the ambulance chasers.

Thanks EU for being the best news source in town. I'm sure you know, but every employee at City Hall monitors this website daily as well. Everyone knows the truth comes out here.

  4. Jeez! All of Blakespear's surrogates are out in force to ridicule Encinitas Undercover in an attempt to justify her Cardiff Highway 101 folly. Stay tuned. This is not the last of the bike accidents.

  5. Blakespear must go! Eleven bike accidents is way too many. More tax dollars going to law suits due to the poor design. She is quickly ruining our city which used to be very cool! Hey Blakespear why don't you build a 600 unit very low income apartments in the canyon by your house, I mean your Mom's, since you don't have your own.

  6. 1:34 - Yeah. I agree with you this COVID ghost flu is gnarly. I heard a story about thi 105 year old with liver failure, stage four lung cancer and lost a leg to poor circulation due to diabetes who caught this flu in his ICU unit and died within 2 months. Whoa! He Died!!! COVID the Flu got him cold.

I am told there was another similar story last week. This thing is so contagious and gnarly. I am sure glad they make us wear masks and stay in our homes to protect everyone and beat this evil COVID ghost flu! Its well worth the coming depression and increased associated suicides, pain and suffering.

Well done leaders! Way to beat COVID. Victory! Just like that other really smart guy said when standing on an Aircraft Carrier.... Thank God you know what your doing!!

  14. I finally drove the 101 yesterday to Solana Beach and back to see what the fuss has been about.

I have no skin in the game and don't plan to leave any on the roadway.

I don't see why cyclists are having a problem.

    They have a sharrow lane.

They have a somewhat protected bike lane for those casually enjoying the view.

Pedestrians have space to share with the casual slow rider.

I am no fan of our current mayor or council and am looking forward to a new majority this fall. That needed to be stated so no one thinks this is another of our mayor tools.

Is it really that difficult to ride that stretch without crashing, or are some people using this as an excuse to politicize anything they can in an election year.

I will be voting for the new candidate majority. We sure need them, each and every one of them to affect the much needed change at city hall.

    4. 8:43,

Have you read the accounts? Some are first-person, and extremely specific. Many have multiple witnesses. Law firms are already preparing claims against the city. The reports are coming in from ordinary citizens using their real names, not bike activists or fake social media profiles.

What reason do you have to believe any of them are fake?

      Delete
    5. Let’s go through the examples you have posted, shall we?

      Definitions:

      First person: I crashed.
Second person: I saw someone crash.
N-th person: They are saying on the internet. . .

April 24, “Blakespear's (sic) new bike obstacles already cause serious accident”. John K (last name unknown, anonymous): “. . . saw a rider crash. . . “ Second person account. Also: “. . . Not safe for SDBC to be sprinting in the bike lane. We’ll need to be in a traffic lane.” So this is an SDBC bike activist. That club has been actively fighting the change. EU said the accounts don’t come from bike activists. I call BS.

April 26, “ Yet another serious bicycle crash at Blakespear's (sic) Cardiff bike obstacles” This one is an anonymous email in EU’s inbox, also sent to the mayor: “ I understand another cyclist was injured on the new Cardiff bikeway this morning. . .” I understand. This is N-th person anonymous garbage. I call BS.

April 29, “ Yet another serious bike crash at Blakespear (sic) obstacles.” Mayor candidate Julie Thunder says “ To me and others who saw this. . . “. Second person account. Thunder goes on to turn the post into a campaign promotion. Is this an objective source with nothing to gain?

This is N-th person garbage. I call BS.

May 4, “Blakespear's (sic) bullheadedness sends yet another bicyclist to hospital.”

This one comes from another anonymous email to EU, and includes a screen grab of an anonymous (name redacted) social media post saying “Another cyclist went down yesterday. . . “ No mention that the anonymous social media poster saw anything themselves. More N-th person anonymous social media Bullshit.

May 5, “Blakespear (sic) bike obstacles' latest victim is 10-year-old boy”. Unnamed poster from social media (Nextdoor): “My 10 year old was riding just behind me heading south on the bridge that spans the inlet at Cardiff Reef when someone (apparently.) cut him off and he swerved to avoid crashing into a jogger and his fromt wheel hit the curb.” So this person admits they didn’t see anything because it was behind them, but from his kid’s account, he got cut off, and got away with a scraped knee—possibly a much better outcome than if he continued his panic swerve into traffic. I won’t call BS on this one, but it doesn’t tell the story you want.

May 26, “Yet another serious injury from Blakespear's (sic) bike obstacles” Becky Bourgeois (which totally sounds like a fake name, but isn’t) says “this morning my husband suffered a double fracture to his collarbone when he struck the ballustrades heading south on the 101.” Second hand account. And the account is confusing and full of conflicts. Example: “He was avoiding several pedestrians who were in the bicycle lane. He was forced to make a last second decision between entering the bicycle lane or avoiding them and moving into the traffic lane. He opted to veer towards the street (had the made the other decision he would have flown into traffic and this would be a different far more severe discussion potentially). “ If he veered away from the lane and “towards the street,” then he was in fact swerving toward the traffic. I’m sure something happened here, but it’s impossible to know what from this account.

May 27, “Blakespear (sic) claims another victim”

From Social Media (Facebook) “My boyfriend . . . came home and told me he saw an accident.” N-th person social media garbage.

June 4 (this post), “Another serious injury at Blakespear (sic) bike obstacles.” Bonnie Jo says “Just saw a biker down on coast highway surrounded by his bike buddies.” Second person account. No idea why the person was down, or what happened? Did the cyclist have a heart attack or get hit by a meteor. I guess we’ll never know.

    6. We're not going to persuade you here.

Why don't you head over to Facebook and tell all the victims and witnesses that they're lying?

      Delete
    7. You asked.

I answered, using your own posts.

And you have no response when shown the specifics. You just thought no one would spend the time to do the work and show the BS.

I don’t disagree that changes may need to be made to the bike path. But some of this is obviously social media election season bullshit, and you are obviously a big part of that.

Let’s get the actual data from the police and ambulance service and go from there.

But you won’t do that, because it’s easier to continue being a hack.

      Isn’t that right, EU?

      Delete
    8. Nope. All of the reported incidents are completely credible coming from a variety of community members. I have no reason to doubt any of them, and you haven't provided any.

You've got a wild conspiracy theory there, but no evidence to back it up.

    9. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

      Simone : No problem whatsoever.

    12. But this blog is small potatoes.

There's a whole 800+ person Facebook group dedicated to the issue of the unsafe bicycle conditions there.

      https://www.facebook.com/groups/556935515245051/

Surely someone of your incredible insight and persuasive skills should aim higher, and go explain to them that it's all a hoax.

    13. People already know that group has an axe to grind.

You even said: “ The reports are coming in from ordinary citizens using their real names, not bike activists. . .”

Why did you exclude bike activists? Because they are not objective and impartial on this issue.

Who established and moderates that Facebook group?

  15. I can not stand Trump and I am not a Republican and hate the right wing. This has nothing to do with Right wing or left wing.

Its about a bad road design posed to kill someone. To date, there has only been minor carage. Putting bicyclist in the vehicle lanes in those fast conditions is just setting the stage for death. Not only that, I was righting in the green bikelanes and the pedestrians traveling in the wrong direction (northbound on the west side) thought they owned that space and yelled at me. They were pissed because I went by them at 15 mph in my bikelane. There has and will continnue to be carnage. I pray its not a kid or toddler.

The blood on the street, and I pray in the near future its not a toddler walking with his family to the beach. This one is completely on none other then Catherine Blakespear.

She needs to be taken out of the drivers seat for sure.

  16. Catherine's signature line of her last weekly news letter is sad. "Together with you in commitment to our highest principals."

Trying to cash in on someone else's misfortune is pathetic in the scummiest way.

Well Catherine, my parents and bible thought me though shall not kill.

What are you doing? Fix the road you screwed up so some innocent person, no less a young child, is not killed.

I think all of Encinitas can unify behind that fix.

    3. either one sounds really good. Lets make it happen!!!

The RR and the State were the ones that bermed the lagoons and destroyed the health of the lagoon and the beach. Its time to mitigate the damage and restore the health of both. Remove the huge berms for the RR and the roadway across the lagoons. People can cross at I5 bridges.

  19. I agree. They need to bridge the entire lenght of the flood plain along the coast like they do in the east coast.

Remove the berms which will restore our beaches!

  20. It is definitely dangerous. I live in Encinitas and I have been riding around here for 20 years. I don't have a problem slowing down through the area but the biggest problem I encounter is people standing in the middle of the path, people walking in the middle of the bike lane with ear buds on not paying attention. I would ride in the sharrows but I just don't feel comfortable doing that especially on that section where people are not paying attention, checking out the surf etc while driving. There are riders going real slow riding in the middle of the lane, no room to pass. Before the barriors were there you could just look behind you to make sure no cars were behind you and go out in the road to make the pass, not possible now. It really is quite dangerous, lots of people not paying attention to their surroundings.
