First, the article bounces back and forth between the words “affordable” and “low income” which mean different things in state language. The state is concerned with low income housing which the developers refuse to build unless it is required by law. What is happening in Encinitas is a fraud that was and still is perpetrated by the city council, the state HCD, and the building industry. The state told Encinitas that building density on at least 15 properties had to be increased to 30 units per acre for low income housing. That means mega apartment buildings. The catch is that the state doesn’t require building low income housing and most of these mega apartment buildings will be market rate. With the HCD, they can pretend that low income will be built which they know otherwise while at the same time penalizing Encinitas for not building it. By the way, the city council goes along with it because they get more million dollars houses which put more property tax money in the city coffers. The Goodson development mentioned in the article is a 7 story 284 units (capacity of about 900 people) on a small lot on a 2 lane road that would be difficult to evacuate in an emergency (fire, earthquake, etc.). Additionally, the schools in Encinitas are overcrowded, but the state doesn’t allow a city to take that into consideration when a project is submitted. There is also a drought and water supply may be rationed soon, but that can’t be considered either. There’s no regularly run buses so everyone must have a car. According to the state and the city council, everyone should be riding bicycles. Please, Mr./Ms. state auditor before you make statements get the facts.

The trends were changing greatly in the later portion of the election in strong favor of Thunder.
Thunder would be our Mayor today if only 3,000 more voters were informed.
This is huge and the trends showed she was gaining quickly at the end with the voters being educated throughout the campaign. If Thunder had launched her excellent mailer - " Beach Town, Not Big Town" at the beginning of the election season, she would be our Mayor today.

ReplyDeleteFirst, the article bounces back and forth between the words “affordable” and “low income” which mean different things in state language. The state is concerned with low income housing which the developers refuse to build unless it is required by law. What is happening in Encinitas is a fraud that was and still is perpetrated by the city council, the state HCD, and the building industry. The state told Encinitas that building density on at least 15 properties had to be increased to 30 units per acre for low income housing. That means mega apartment buildings. The catch is that the state doesn’t require building low income housing and most of these mega apartment buildings will be market rate. With the HCD, they can pretend that low income will be built which they know otherwise while at the same time penalizing Encinitas for not building it. By the way, the city council goes along with it because they get more million dollars houses which put more property tax money in the city coffers.
The Goodson development mentioned in the article is a 7 story 284 units (capacity of about 900 people) on a small lot on a 2 lane road that would be difficult to evacuate in an emergency (fire, earthquake, etc.). Additionally, the schools in Encinitas are overcrowded, but the state doesn’t allow a city to take that into consideration when a project is submitted. There is also a drought and water supply may be rationed soon, but that can’t be considered either. There’s no regularly run buses so everyone must have a car.
According to the state and the city council, everyone should be riding bicycles.
Please, Mr./Ms. state auditor before you make statements get the facts.

Demotion? Nope. Kranz likes to act the big shot too much. Hinze in particular is looking to move up, fast. She has been telling people she wants a career, apparently politics will do. She jumps without question when the party tells her to so she'll go far.

Following the success of the I-5 underpass murals at Santa Fe Drive and Encinitas Boulevard, the city of Encinitas has announced a graffiti competition. The competition is part of the city’s public art initiative. Paraphrased:
The city cited the surface near the corner of North Coast Highway 101 and Phoebe Street and close to the Leucadia post office. The front and back are eligible as individual surfaces.
My money's on Walker. Perhaps it'll be an image of the lawsuit judgement the mayor will roll over and gift her?

If the council approves the plan there will be strip and grub of the land between Vulcan and the west side of Highway 101 and from La Costa and to A street. The plan is then given to the staff to follow or add to as they want. Tell the council to reject completely this plan. Throw the plan in the trash. The item is on the consent agenda and not on the regular agenda. It is 8K. Rail Corridor Cross-Connect Implementation Plan (Cross-Connect), a component of the Coastal Mobility and Livability Study (CMLS) and the Rail Corridor Vision Study (RCVS). Start on page 25 of the 196 page plan to see the drawings that Leucadia will have to live with if the council approves the plan or any part of the plan. Retaining walls, overhead train crossings with elevators and no voting by the residents who live in the neighborhood. Out of town parking could be in the neighborhoods off Vulcan.
Leucadia will be turned into Orange County as an "improvement" under dictator Blakespear.

For the 55% of Encinitas voters who voted for Blakespear, Kranz, and Hinze, ask for a recall. The next moves by the 3 of them maybe is turning Vulcan into a one way street using Leucadia as the divider. One way north from Leucadia Blvd. to La Costa. One way south from Leucadia Blvd to Encinitas Blvd.
