Robin Sales from the Equity Committee asked the below question re: traffic stops. Specifically, she wrote, "I had a thought that the sheriff's department and the city reap the financial benefit of traffic tickets and I'm wondering how we can look at that from an equity lens as the RIPA data clearly indicates a significantly higher stop rate of BIPOC in Encinitas. I would like to hear from Pam Antil how much the City takes in annually on those traffic stops."There's lots more at the link between city staff and the outside consultant paid to coordinate the Equity Committee. Are we getting our money’s worth?
Cities abusing the public and minorities with fines for revenue is an actual thing, primarily in small towns in the Deep South. Thinking it's happening here requires an especially vivid imagination. As we learned in the Redflex saga, the city nets very little from traffic fines, as most of the money goes to the state, courts, and county. Further, our deputies are rarely observed spending all day manning speed traps (or even enforcing straight-pipe noise violations on 101, as a frequent commenter will tell you!).
This equity committee couldn't find their collective rears without the direction of the paid consultant. This is a committee that was supposedly zero cost to taxpayers.
ReplyDeleteMali Woods-Drake is the star of the equity committee. She was also the agitating star of a recent 500-post thread on Nextdoor where she informed readers that not only is she the future of Encinitas, she has the mayor and council's approval. She posted more than once that anyone who disagrees had better "get on board or get out of the way."
Mali's Nextdoor account was disabled (or she just...left?) and that 500-post thread was taken down within minutes of each other. Damage control, much?
DeleteToo late for Mali! Lotsa screenshots of her puking all over Nextdoor. No impulse control kind of reminds us of a certain bff attorney friend of the mayor.
DeleteShe was disabled before the post was taken down. Someone must have pressed the naughty button and put her in lockdown. Maybe it was her handler, the mayor
DeleteI wonder what the violations would read, something like:
ReplyDeleteSpeeding while black, driving to slow while Asian, car too low while driving Mexican. Maybe driving to drunk while Irish, driving too large while Samoan.
Yes...I'm sure it's all true. Thank the gawds for an equity committee. Sure could have used them while I dug ditches for living...while poor.
First it's helium balloons now this?
ReplyDeleteGood grief these people are seriously about as smart as a box of rocks.
Maybe it would be an excellent idea to inject weekly boosters in these folks?
For all those that supported Newsom and other jerks that imposed shut downs specifically school shut downs you have blood on your hands and you should be held accountable.

this point that know one cares that the Government shut down the economy and stripped freedom from every American and caused severe public health impacts for no reason shows why there is such angst in this county. Believe me there are plenty that care and do not like the way this country and state are being managed.

Anyway back on the point of the thread, traffic tix. Has Molly the "self identified Latina" who speaks no Spanish been issued a ticket for something she didn't do? A little surface scratch reveals a hefty unpaid ticket back east....
ReplyDeleteEverything does seem to be personal with Mali. She is allegedly taking a position on affordable housing for people like those who she represents in her union job, yet most of her discussion is about how she and her boyfriend make over $200,000 jointly yet can't afford a house in Leucadia. She seems to be pushing development and our council members in hopes of some sort of a housing deal for herself.
DeleteShe also claimed recently she's "having a house built." The rumors about Grover working out a deal with her in Foxpoint Farms may yet prove true. He commented a few months ago that he thought local nonprofits should qualify for an affordable unit. With the mayor propping up both of them no one is putting anything past this corrupt crew.
DeleteThe cops do have sites that they stake out for traffic violations, but claiming it targets minorities is over the top. It targets everybody - equal opportunity citations.
ReplyDeleteRespectfully, I don't think that any police profited off of MWD if her tickets and tax bills remain unpaid.
