  3. Let's try and keep the races clear: Mayor is Gaspar, Kranz, Cameron.

    Council seat: Blakespeare, Lerch, Graboi

It is looking like Blakespeare and Gaspar

    4. Let's get over the cheap shots on Sheila. You need more time, energy and money than was available to Sheila this election. This was the least contested election I've seen in awhile.

There will be a lot more people voting next time. I suspect the turnout for this election will be a record low. The real question is can those of us not on team Rotarian/Developer/Gaspar/Stocks/Bond find common ground again after prop. A, or will the vote continue to be split...

    5. Common ground depends on Tony's crew not looking the other way when he betrays campaign promises (Prop A, pensions). Ball's in their court.

  9. Just as I presumed, no changes in the make up of the council. It will be Blakespear, Shaffer and Kranz majority vote against the two loners Gaspar and Muir.

Same old, same old stuff. Nothing has changed. Gaspar will do nothing as mayor except what she needs to do: cut ribbons, set agenda, do the pledge, and thank people for coming to meetings.

    Boring! Boring! Boring!

    4. Gee whiz she was making more money off her husband than she would being Mayor of Mayberry By The Sea.

I guess her priorities are not her husband and children. Too bad.

    5. Gaspar and Muir love the downtown bars. They don't care about the problems for the neighbors down there. This is party city.

      Delete
    6. The Downtown Bars were major financial supporters of Gaspar.

    7. Ironic that tonight there's a great piece on PBS on women in politics, and yet we still have comments like 9:20 that choose to focus on Gaspar being a woman rather than her achievements of lack thereof on council...

    8. 9:50. Please elaborate and be specific about what Gaspar (Wonder Woman) has accomplished in the last four years that had any benefit for the citizens of this city. Please do not use that she voted no on Pacific View because her vote did nothing to stop the purchase. As mayor she will be paying that bill on a monthly basis.

Yes, please tell all what she did to keep us out of debt.

      Delete
    9. 9:20 PM You are assuming that the mayoral office entails a time commitment. Cutting ribbons and sitting at meetings is minimal involvement. She is a puppet and all she has to do is what she is told by her handlers. Piece of cake.

  13. the incredibly juvenile disparaging of political leaders and community leaders with made up stories of greed and worse caused the electorate to turn against the Prop A people.

This blog and the participants should take a bow because Encinitas is once again on the right course because of this winers mecca known as encinitas undercover! C'mon Lerch!

    1. Examples please, there have been a lot of quality discussions held here on why to support Graboi, Blakespeare, or Lerch.

Let's be honest, what qualifications does Lerch have to be on council, other than the backing of the Republican party and the Rotary Club. Graboi's involvement in the community is clear, and Blakesepeare has been out there to a lesser degree. Lerch gets a zero, proving you can't just buy every election, despite Gaspar's win.

It will be interesting to add up Kranz and Cameron's Numbers and see if they equal Gaspars.

The obvious is clear, if you hate the blog, why are you here?

    2. 9:40 I have heard that most people don't even know about this blog, so don't blame us on us things turned out.

We tried our best here to inform and enlighten people what was obvious to us. Others had blinders on and refused to budge.

We will be stuck with what we have after tonight for the next two years. Hopefully, some good will come from it, but I'm not expecting anything great to happen.

Let's continue to say hi and be cordial to our city manager and city attorney who will be around longer than any of us.

    3. 9:36,

      Please elaborate.

I see these results as confirmation of my view that the "progressive" council members need to repair the broken trust with the Prop A folks if they ever want to be re-elected.

Or just hope for more Republican/developer incompetence next time like they did this time with the Ziegler/Lerch fiasco. But can you count on them to be that incompetent next time?

Barth, Shaffer, and Kranz gave Gaspar the mayorship by utterly destroying their political base. Let's see if they can learn from their mistakes.

      Delete
    4. Agreed. There total stubbornness ruined any headway and they ignored the key issues- pensions and reduce City Hall costs.

They totally blew it with the $3 million dollar lifeguard tower and $10 million for a school property that needs $20,000,000 to open anything on it.

I will be voting out all incumbents next election. Hope we get 4 good new candidates to replace Plastic Gaspar, Muir, Kranz and Shaffer. We need a smart City Council that will address the City's real priorities.

    7. The Prop A. people also need to get off their high horse and quit acting like they run the town. If Sheila and Graboi were your entrants, they clearly failed miserably. Barth/Shaffer/Kranz still have a base, I and a lot of other still support those guys. We have the same goals, maintining community character.

All the prop. A stuff should have been hashed out BEFORE it got on the ballot. That was a tactical mistake by Ehlers and the prop. A. gang. Bruce should know better....

This can be fixed, but people have to pull their heads out on both sides and put the arrogant attititude away. A lot of you talk about shaffer's arrogance, but you turn around and have it much worse with your snarkiness and bad faith comments.

Let's not let the Gaspars and David Meyers of this town run away with it.....

    8. If Barth had a base she would have run. If Barth had run she would have lost miserably - her base and her ego- knew this

Barth's plan of electing Kranz and getting appointed failed , now she wilol lose power and respect, even Marco will soon move on, the only thing Barth and offer anyone now is a mailing list

  18. Really, how many of the absentee voters knew that Gaspar was a supporter of the bars, which translates into more drunks driving in Encinitas. Think the they would have voted for her? She's part of the developer upzoning cabal.
Think the absentee voters voted for her because of that?

Kranz likes the bars and with the resulting more drunks in town. How many voters knew that?

    1. 10:05 Gaspar's campaign support from the bars was known early on. I voted by absentee ballot and I sure knew about it. I know a lot of my friends did as well. We were not impressed with her endorsements.

    2. Known by how many?? 10:05 has it right. Family photos, lies about opposing high density, and freaky black trench-coated photos captured the uninformed I.e., most voters).

    1. Brady

You never answered the question. Why?

Does a fiscal conservative give an unearned extra paycheck to a city manager to spike his pension?

Does a fiscal conseravate take $7 million from funded projects with no plan to pay it back?

Does a family values candidate look the other way when a city manager conspires with a contractor to withhold financial information?

Integrity and values- we have them or we don't.

    2. Brady, you can't buy an election in our town. Take your big spending, defense industrial candidate Lerch back to the SD Rostra blog.

    5. FT,

I believe you're referring to questions about how Kristin Gaspar can be called a "fiscal conservative."

I don't believe Brian Brady ever called Gaspar a fiscal conservative.

    6. EU

Brady's entire party effort is promoting his candidates as "fiscally responsible"

      so, in that vein

      1. Mr.Brady - Is it fiscally responsible for an elected leader to give an unearned extra paycheck to an ex-city manager?

      2. Mr. Brady- Is it fiscally responsible for an elected leader to look the other way when a city manager is revealed to have coordinated with a contractor to withhold financial information from the public?

      3. Mr. Brady, is is fiscally responsible for an elected leader to ttell the public the city finances are in good shape, then vote to take $7 million from funded projects, and years later those projects remain unfunded as the city is not in good shape?

Brady won't respond, he never has.

    7. "I don't believe Brian Brady ever called Gaspar a fiscal conservative."

Excellent point. San Diego politics used to drive me crazy. Republican council members did things which soured my libertarian-leaning palate but Democratic Council members did things which made me physically ill.

After more than a decade , I realized that I ain't in Arizona no mo' so I'm going to hell in my own way

Her and Pam's ego wrote a check that will cost this city for a long long time. They 100% absolutely blew it.

  22. 5:31 am. So True. Cameron and Kranz are has beens and bad for Encinitas. Gaspar has always been bad for Encinitas. Next election the campaign is NO on all incumbents. I hope we get 4 highly qualified candidates.

  23. Not Encinitas concerned, but DiMaio loses. That should finish off his political ambitions. The allegations of sexual impropriety at the 11th hour probably did him in. Should have waited until he got to Washington - they'd all be shaking their junk at each other!

  24. Now looks like DiMaio may have been intentionally set up. His political ambitions are in shambles as a result; all he might be able to do is sue the accusers for defamation. He can buy a pretty boa with the money.
