Deputy shoots robbery suspect on South El Camino Real

10 News:
San Diego Sheriff's Department is investigating a deputy-involved shooting of a robbery suspect Monday morning.

A sheriff's representative said law enforcement officers were attempting to pull over the motorcyclist in connection to a restaurant robbery when he sped off. Deputies chased him and he crashed in front of the Pacific Pines housing community on El Camino Real, south of Santa Fe Drive, around 5:45 a.m.

The suspect then took off running, according to authorities, and that is when he was shot. He was subsequently transported to the Scripps La Jolla hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
UPDATE: Suspect is 53-year-old Robert Parkin of Encinitas, which would appear to be this long-time Seaside Market employee and San Dieguito grad. Thanks to "123" for the tip.

  1. Meanwhile that deputies pension is in jeopardy. Read today's WSJ front page to learn more.

Muir your days of free spending on pizza at lunch are soon to end. Lololollll.

    1. Why? Because of lower interest rates? If that's the case, your retirement dollars are also in jeopardy. The tide affects all ships. So you may laugh at Muir's alleged inability to spend freely on pizza, but if this keeps up you'll be behind him in the breadline! Is that so funny?

    2. Sculpin, you know nothing of me nor my financial situation. Muir and all city and county and state employees that are retiring are ALL collecting $100K minimum pensions. Perhaps you'll tell us your solution to the bankrupting situation. Most likely you'll simply ride your horse. Oh hey, pick up its turds on the trail...if I were a council person I'd make it illegal to leave horseshit on a trail. Contaminates the ground water blah blah...

    4. They're all collecting $100k? Some of them are, but not all of them. And The Sculpin is right, we better all hope the tide doesn't go the wrong way or it will be like the song by the Circle Jerks, "We all gotta duck, when the S... Hits the fan".....

    5. Muir get about $190K, others get over $200K - yea, it's out of control. Muir claimed in his campaign ads that he championed "pension reform". That's like seeing Trump at a Black Lives Matter rally...

    7. Sorry Sculpin, you want to kill the messenger and not hear the message. Wear a hat while riding, you get too much sun.

    8. The message was fine, heard and understood. How this sentiment:
"Muir your days of free spending on pizza at lunch are soon to end. Lololollll."

is part of the message is beyond me - and deserves to be shot.....

    9. Sculpin your response at 11:47 is only exceeded by your delusion. Don't let any rattlesnakes on the trail spook your horse and throw you off, you might land on your head and have some sense knocked into you...

  3. The suspect is Robert Parkin which a quick facebook search revealed to be the manager of the deli at Seaside Market, who has worked there for over a decade.

He matched the description of the robbery at El Pueblo and after he was shot, deputies found cash and a silver handgun.

  4. It seems like the sheriff's department in Encinitas needs to get to the range a bit more often. 2nd officer involved shooting in a row where they hit the legs / feet. Sure hope I never need them to defend me...

    1. `2:16 PM "Good" for the suspect tho. Did the suspect point a gun at the cops? There needs to be some justification for shooting s suspect; especially shooting to kill.

    2. He robbed a restaurant at gun point - the cops must have known that he was armed. I guess the next 10 years will bring him to retirement age. Stupid move - how much is money can one get from a taco place?

    2. 2:36- Yes, they are taught to disable the person if possible, not kill him or her. The sheriff did what he was taught. The person is in custody and no one got killed. I say kudos to our sheriff's dept.

    3. They are taught to only shoot if they reasonably fear for their life or the life of another, and to shoot into the body mass (chest) to kill.

      Delete
    4. 4:38 is correct.

Only in the movies do police use a gun to "immobilize." They have Tazers, bean bag rounds, and tear gas for less than lethal use. Once they reasonably fear loss of life (theirs or others), they can use bullets fired at center of mass to end the threat. If the perp survives, it's luck and nothing more.

  6. If you are going to get shot by a cop, you'd better hope it is in Encinitas.

    1. Indeed..these armored up dudes police in a way that is out of sync with the rest of the country. And the populace seems to be fine with that...
Too many rounds fired to say they were shooting to immobilize...can we see the video? Guessing the guy is shot while running away- which amounts to frontier justice...

    2. "Too many rounds fired"

How many were fired? How do you know?

"Guessing the guy is shot while running away- "

Guessing? You mean you make things up because you don't like cops. Which is probably because you have problems staying on the right side of the law.

  8. I don't get why someone with a 10+ year job, someone who has lived here for a long time, does this. I can not imagine the Mexican restaurant would have that much cash, so it does not make sense. What did he need the money for??

  12. update... He aimed at deputies, then after he was shot and fell to ground, pick the gun up and tried to point it at them again, resulting in even more shots.

  13. Cops were intoxicated? If "trained" cops shot him in the leg with a gun pointed at them, it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. Fortunately, Trump will be handing out guns to the citizens!

  14. This guy is an ex-con with a long rap sheet. He had an AR-15 assault type rifle in his apartment that had been stolen in a home invasion robbery. This guy was a Jeckle-Hyde personality - he evidently engaged in crime as a sideline.
